This song is called CROWNS. I can’t remember when I wrote it but it initially started as a simple piano ballad. I wrote this as a reflection on the phenomenon and influence of so called black people, generations and the world over: “from thrones to slums, we’ve seen it all”. once Andrew and I started to work together on some music, I decided to sort through my hard drive in search of inspiration in some sketch ideas I had been carrying around for years. I chose CROWNS at the time because lyrically it still felt relevant to me. As we worked through it though, there was another sensation announcing itself, which gave way to the second part of the song. a simultaneous implosion and explosion inspired by Georgia Anne Muldrow’s song ‘New Orleans’. The final work feels like an appraisal of how dissonant all of life ultimately is. We hope you enjoy listening.

The visionary space case known as Brendan Philip is a singer/songwriter from Toronto. Through music, he has created a diverse and experimental listening experience that is altogether romantic, yearning and at times incoherent. It is an atmospheric sound for the vagabond laced with cosmopolitan ideals and psychedelic anguish.

BP was the first place recipient for the 2013 Harbourfront Soundclash award, sharing the stage with hip-hop jazz powerhouse BADBADNOTGOOD. In addition he has shared the stage with soul giant, Bilal and Toronto wordsmith and Warped tour headliner, Shad 

Bren was recently featured on Toronto emcee, Keita Juma’s house hop lead single, ‘Come Over’ which climbed to number 1 on AUXTV’s Top 25 video chart. This record broke ground as the first indie rap release to chart #1 on the station.

Along with BP is the FAROUT gang who are all poised to impact Toronto music and the art world at large with Culture Power. Truly the dawn of a new day of our present future.
