An experimental-folk journey that blends traditional Ukrainian music with a free-form performative approach. 

The story of the album’s creation began with a recording session the two artists held with Ukrainian folk musician and current military medic Eduard Drach in his Kyïv apartment in October 2023, during which they recorded 2 hours worth of various traditional Ukrainian instruments. With Eduard, they recorded samples of buhai, kobza, kolisna lira, violin, and vocals. 

From there, ummsbiaus and Difference Machine created songs out of these sounds, adding more instruments and vocals, but with the basis always lying in Ukrainian folk music. This album incorporates lyrics, melodies, and motifs from traditional songs. Lyrics from folk songs are interwoven with original poetry written by ummsbiaus.

Death (The Beach) – цей мікс використовує «пляж» як метафору для роздуму про смерть. Він починається з dies irae — середньовічної католицької секвенції про Судний День, що співається на реквіємах — і продовжує розкривати невблаганність смерті, в той час як ми боремося проти припливу насильства, що постійно б’ється об наш берег. Він закінчується своєрідною наполегливістю, в той час як ми продовжуємо йти вздовж пляжу і відчуваємо океанський бриз, зі смертю, що завжди поруч.

Death (The Beach) – this mix uses the metaphor of the beach for a reflection on death. It begins with a dies irae - a medieval Latin hymn about the Day of Judgment sung in requiem masses - and continues exploring the relentlessness of death, as we struggle against the tide of violence constantly thrashing on our shore. It concludes with a kind of perseverance, as we continue to walk along the beach and feel the ocean breeze, with death always by our side.

Through his latest mix, @differencemachine tells a story about a shift in the common understanding of the world. Hell is not the evil beneath us – it is the Sun in the sky which illuminates everything we see. This selection of songs focuses on the Sun and the worlds that exist around it.

“Heliocentric Worlds” is a psychedelic journey that spans the cosmos, from dark dystopian cities to free open space – from places with boundaries and limitations, to somewhere where endless eternity can be seen and explored. It progresses towards a point of acceptance that the Sun sustains life in its most natural state, and the glass illusions shatter. 

““There was a time when there was nothing,
And no one understood.

The sky is nothing –
It’s endless nothingness.
There’s no end to the hole in space.

You think the bottomless pit is in Hell? You have been mistaught.
The bottomless pit is in the sky – an endless hole.
