June Drum and bass Predictions

Pioneer announce the release of a new turntable shaped device that only plays USB sticks. 
Phil Tangent makes the best soulful drum and bass tune ever made, but it goes unnoticed due to it being released at the same time as a dire Sick Music compilation on Hospital. 

Makoto is commissioned to make a remix album of 'Thriller' by Michael Jackson. Presha runs out of different colours to press music on, and Samurai Music ceases trading. 
Fox is chosen as the narrator for a new 'Life on Earth' series to air in the Winter on the BBC. 

Noisia put out a new LP but their gurns on the artwork are so contorted that no-one can look at the front cover without turning to stone. 
Ed Rush and Optical announce the delay of their LP until the end of September, saying it is still not ready and that it will be worth the wait. 
Break releases two singles, one EP, and three remixes.

Can you remember playing this set at all?
This was one of those nights when everything fell into place. Metalheadz Sessions at Blue Note were always above average but these kind of nights- where every element gelled perfectly. in terms of vibes and living life, these were the ones that people waited for. 

What were your most memorable moments from The Blue Note?
Spotting a famous face you didn't expect to see there was a great thing. It made me feel proud of the elements that made the burgeoning Drum & Bass sound work so well. It was about more than the experimental beats the DJs played. It was also about the phatness of the Eskimo Noise sound system, the freestyle energy the clubbers brought to the dance floor and the MCs who felt free to host in a nontraditional way. The unity of those elements that had not been witnessed before.

This was my first ever drum'n'bass mix recorded in February 2007. Recently I was driving my car in the beginning of quarantine and this mix was a random choice of my player. I felt so inspired by selection and the story behind (my personal flashback) so I decided to share it with you. I did not change the original name of it as I think 'spirit' is the right definition of this mix. When I was playing it I didn't understand much about dnb scene and culture - even better, as this way I could only express what I feel about it through the music. All my forever favorites in here ❤️ Hope you'll find something for yourself too ❤️

Since breaking through, Friske, aka Sam Oliver, has consistently and habitually honed his skills whilst preserving an ever-present style that focuses on razor sharp breaks and dark and foreboding moods, as well as incorporating veins of influences from b-boyism and hip hop culture.

A product of 3 years of hard and diligent studio work, 'A Different Perspective' is without doubt Friske's own take on drum & bass. This is an artist who has never followed trends and prefers to take inspiration, stimulation and motivation from outside of the genre - something arguably reminiscent of early powerhouses such as Adam F and J Majik. This is an irrefutable factor in the culmination of a more alluring fusion of sounds which is where Friske really begins to hit his apex.

With 16 uncompromising, high-caliber solo tracks to choose from this is an album that will further identify Friske as one of the most respected and distinctive underground drum & bass producers in the years to come.
