DifferentSound Premiere // SHDW & Obscure Shape

SHDW & Obscure Shape are back with their second EP for 2023, following their debut release on their mothership label From Another Mind. The German duo's latest release, 'Basic Instinct', is a collection of five dancefloor anthems that provide the perfect soundtrack for any moment in a set. The EP features their signature die-cut cover and includes a digital bonus track.

'Basic Instinct' is the 12th installment of their Mutual Rytm label and showcases the pair's exceptional production skills and innovative approach to electronic music, with a mix of old and new school flavors, vivid drum programming, organic percussion and captivating melodic elements. The A-side kicks off with their signature track
'Eraser', which blends crisp drums with warm sub-bass and piercing synth stabs. "Dancer in the Dark" takes a deeper dive into late-night territory, combining lush dub-influenced synths with a rolling acid bassline. "Disturbing Behaviour" closes the A-side and shows why the 303 has become an iconic tool for producers. Despite the sirens dominating around the breakdowns, the simple two-tone acid stab is the defining element of the track, complemented by amen-break leaning drums that hint at a UK rave direction.

The B-side goes in a different direction, with 'Memories of Nobody' taking a filtered and less aggressive approach, as echoing dub pads gather around a growling bassline and kick drum combination, topped off by brushed hats. The EP concludes with 'The Last Seduction', a track that reveals the full organic breadth of the previously hinted at Amen break. The fusion of said amen break with the warmth and
familiarity of waxing and waning pads is reminiscent of the golden days of electronic music.

With its expertly crafted soundscapes and diverse range of styles, 'Basic Instinct' is yet another stunning release from SHDW & Obscure Shape, to be released on 5 May 2023.

ONI is happy to present it's new Y series which is going to mainly focus on the 90's to early 00's Techno era.

The series will be an outlet for label head Danny Wabbit to showcase his productions inspired by the Y generation.

The first track, "Don't F*** With My Energy," is a high-energy anthem that combines driving percussion, distorted Acid lines, and a powerful vocal sample. It embodies the fierce independence and resilience that characterized the early techno era.

The second track, "Gotta Kill Bill," is a nod to the iconic martial arts film and its soundtrack. Its intense bassline, sharp hi-hats, and eerie synth create a tense and suspenseful atmosphere, this track showcases the influence of soundtrack music on early techno.

The final track, "Pacer," is a homage to the futuristic sounds of the early 90s. Its hypnotic synth, swirling pads, and pounding beat create a pulsating energy that transports listeners to another dimension. This track shows how early techno was deeply influenced by futurism.

Mutual Rytm welcomes back Swiss DJ/producer Chlär for a bustling, high-octane return as he unveils his latest six-track EP, ‘Intrinsic Drive’.

Swiss artist and mastering engineer Chlär’s last outing on Mutual Rytm, his ‘Optimized Grooves’ EP, was a stand- out success that made an impact far and wide across the techno realm. It was another big step for the fast-rising producer, who is also a dexterous DJ that plays across three and even four decks in the club. A craftsman of sounds, his take on techno is full throttle and has come on labels like Iceland’s NIX and Stranger’s Self Reflektion imprint. Always looking to improve his sounds, he hits a perfect sweet spot with a fresh and visionary approach across six fresh productions with his ‘Intrinsic Drive’ EP, again showcasing exemplary creative progression in his ever-impressing production skills.

Up first is ‘Dopamine Rush’, a quickened techno pumper with synths peeling off the straight-ahead drums and locking you into a state of hypnosis. The title track ‘Intrinsic Drive’ is a tightly woven mix of drums, hits and bass that never lets up, while the supple rhythm is overlaid with alien sound designs to up the intensity. ‘For Marco’ takes a heavier path with darkened and more weighty kick drums under eerie synth loops. There is a real swing in the drums of ‘Steady Pace’ as the crisp hits and vocal fragments all up the ante, before ‘Greedy Man’ delivers a tough panel beater with skewed synths and an industrial undertone. Digital bonus ‘May I Dance?’ rounds things out with raw textures and unhinged loops that take you to the heart of a strobe-lit dance floor, shaping up another mighty fine statement of intent from the ever more vital Swiss native.

"Oldschool vs Newschool " is a project defining GFX's actual and older sound at best, subtly combining his main hard groove influences with hypnotic and ear catching sonorities, as well as his harder influences from the rave scene. He decided to create this album to mark and end to old artistic direction, that has widely evolved after finishing his studies in London. 
As from now on, he'll be only releasing more hardgroovish, hypnotic and mimimalistic productions.

German duo Glaskin make their full EP debut on SHDW’s Mutual Rytm imprint.

Glaskin is the alias of two brothers, Jonathan and Ferdinand, based in Munich. The pair have emerged as key figures in the city’s electronic music scene as longtime residents of the renowned Blitz Club, standing out a homegrown talents amongst its vibrant electronic landscape. Bringing a unique, forward-thinking techno style, as evidenced by their contributions to Mutual Rytm’s Federation Of Rytm II and III compilations in previous years, they now mark a new chapter and open 2025 in style with their debut 12” on the label, ‘Inertia Of Motion’. Each cut on the EP has been handcrafted with analogue gear, reflecting their distinctive artistic and sonic vision. The release is a direct outcome of the creative process behind their live set, which has become an integral part of the duo’s identity and shows a natural evolution of their singular sound.

‘Hush Up’ kicks things off with deep, rubbery and rolling techno rhythms. The drums are stripped back and laced with pulsing synth patterns and spoken word snippets that add a freaky edge. ‘Double Tap’ ups the anti with classic, pumping deep techno with smart filters adding movement to the track as urgent leads hurry onwards. ‘Inertia’ bring a more anxious atmosphere with tightly coiled drums and perc and eerie bell sounds ring out over the fat, twisted bassline. The brilliant ‘Tank’ brings mind-melting loopy techno with dubby chords and textured leads warming their way between the beats to great effect, while ‘Motion’ is suspenseful techno that locks you into a high-speed groove peppered with thumping hits and kicks. Last of all, digital bonus ‘Blushed Blue’ explores a moody, minimal, late-night techno sound that is warm, stylish and hypnotic to close the show.

Convergence: Chapter One, the first entry in a series dedicated to mapping the evolving energies of deep and hypnotic techno. Across four meticulously curated tracks, this VA unfolds like a ritual - starting from immersive, shamanic depths and rising toward a peak-time climax.

Aleja Sanchez opens the voyage with “Amazonian Tale”, a deep and immersive track guided by a shamanic pulse, it sets a meditative yet commanding tone, drawing the listener into its ritualistic flow.

Building on this foundation, “Desert Tribe” by Tsott introduces layered percussive patterns that push the journey forward. With a steady rise in energy, this track bridges the early deep exploration into more dynamic terrain, echoing the pulse of nomadic dance rituals.

Originally from Istanbul, he honed his skills in production and mixing from an early age before relocating to Prague in 2015. His contributions to the underground scene include founding the party series Kave and Anormal, as well as hereandthere, a concept-driven event series transforming temporary spaces through sound, light, and atmosphere. He also runs Pinkies, a bi-monthly club night at the renowned Ankali.
