A DJ and producer from Utrecht, he is an artist that describes himself as a Maximalist trying to fit in to a Minimalist world.
His productions and sets have a signature dark, driving groove, where storytelling always takes centre-stage. Music riddled with small intricacies, a heavy focus on sound-design and an infinitely perfectionist mindset. 
SAMA's recently become a resident at the infamous Club Basis located in Utrecht, Netherlands. 
This is where this one+ hour live session was recorded, so that makes it even more special!

Ken Ishii: A Pioneer of Japanese Techno
Ken Ishii debuted on the renowned Belgian techno label R&S Records in 1993, quickly rising to Number One on the UK's NME magazine techno chart. His first album, "JELLY TONES" (1995), was critically acclaimed, and the video for the single "EXTRA" won MTV's "Dance Video of the Year" in 1996. Internationally regarded as a top pioneer of Japanese techno, Ken produced the official theme song for the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano. In 2000, he was featured on the cover of Newsweek, symbolizing Japan's dynamic new culture. His work includes producing the soundtrack for the Japanese hit film "Whiteout" (2000) and contributing exclusive tracks to the cult-favorite video game Rez. Ken has performed at iconic venues worldwide and won the Best Techno DJ award at the 2004 Dance Music Awards in Ibiza. He regularly headlines major dance festivals, including Monegros (Spain) and WIRE (Japan). As a prolific producer, he founded his label, 70 Drums, in 2002 and released several albums, including "FUTURE IN LIGHT" (2002) and "SUNRISER" (2006). In 2012, Ken launched the project Ken Ishii Presents Metropolitan Harmonic Formulas and released "MUSIC FOR DAYDREAMS." His recent highlights include performing at the Nintendo SWITCH Presentation World Premiere in 2017 and releasing the album "MÖBIUS STRIP" in 2019. In 2020, he produced the official theme track for PAC-MAN's 40th anniversary. Ken continues to expand his creative reach, composing soundtracks for Netflix's anime series "Yakitori: Soldiers of Misfortune" (2023) and the VR game "C-Smash VRS" (2023-2024). He has also launched a noh & techno collaboration performance series, TECHNOH LAB., with noh actor Manjiro Tatsumi. Beyond music, Ken co-brews his own craft beer, “KIKK-IPA,” with RISE & WIN Brewing Co., winning silver prizes at the International Beer Cup in 2022 and 2023. Currently, he is more enthusiastic about making music than ever, releasing new EPs, collaborating with various artists, and touring globally. He is working on a collaboration album with a jazz musician, set for release in late 2024.

Boundary-defying British artist Tommy Four Seven has been a respected visionary in the international techno scene for almost two decades. Since launching to global notoriety, he has continued to be an in-demand selector and producer known for his ability to capture the dance floor with a palette of dynamic sounds and rhythms.

As accomplished in the studio as he is behind the decks, Tommy has built an extensive discography that's grown in parallel with his touring career. His critically acclaimed debut LP, Primate, imaginatively fused off-kilter rhythms with four-to-the-floor minimalism, while his follow-up album, Veer, excavated even more daring and driving techno-adjacent territory. 

47, Tommy’s own imprint, is responsible for some of the most innovative techno in the scene today. Its recent 2.0 relaunch has cemented his singular stylistic approach; in the last two years, it has showcased up-and-coming artists like Quelza, Tauceti and VSK, who stand for the sleek and sophisticated aesthetic that Tommy threads through his own mixes and productions. Not just a label, 47 is also a platform for live events that takes Tommy’s musical vision around the world with a series of finely tuned live events.

An authentic and ever-evolving tastemaker, Tommy’s keen curation remains as sharp as ever.

Vera and I met as residents at our beloved Club Basis and quickly found out Vera was moving in a similar direction as I did a few years ago. Since we both originally came from different backgrounds, the connection felt extra strong. This called for a B2B. The synergy was even more intense than we expected, turning into a three-hour journey of layering and going deeper and deeper, slowly building to a heavy and dark crescendo. I personally don't think I've ever built up a set this perfectly, and this can only really be attributed to the incredible chemistry we had here.

We’re so excited about the outcome, that we decided to share the set, and we sincerely hope you'll enjoy it as much as we did playing this.

"The duality of the universe is something that fascinates me. Understanding that each thing couldn't exist without its opposite has helped me to balance the right amount of brightness in the darkness in my DJ sets. It's important to embrace those opposite dualities between dark and bright, hard and soft, serious and fun, full and empty. Having all of these moments in a DJ set makes the story interesting to tell for me, and for those who are listening! It's like watching a film, where I need a variety of different scenes and emotions to be fully engaged. Every DJ mix is a different story that is told depending on the venue's settings, the dance floor, the energy and the lights.  In this mix, I was picturing playing at Awakenings during a hot summer edition. I truly hope you enjoy the mix and I hope to see you there someday!"

Known for his distinctive productions and symbolic performances, Rosati has honed his artistic identity by weaving the spirit of 90s classics into the contemporary techno universe. Born in the central part of Italy, he is now based in Amsterdam, where his frequent appearances in clubs like Bret and Radion are contributing to the development of his signature high-energy sound.

In recent years, Rosati has performed at pivotal venues like Berghain, Blitz Club, Stone Techno Festival, Bret, Radion, Vault Sessions, Aura Amsterdam, Dalma Festival, Lofi, Intercell, Paradigm Festival, and more, heating up many dance floors with his striking DJ shows and exclusive live sets.

His discography is steadily growing, featuring solid releases on labels such as Be As One, Dolly TS, SoHaSo, Voltage Imprint, and Sungate. These releases showcase his genuine sound vision based on innovation, quality, and variety.

In 2024, Rosati also launched his own record label, Global Pulse, with the aim of embracing futuristic developments in techno while always staying true to its original essence. After the first "Automatic Response EP  GP01" was released in May, the label is now set to host its second release, GP02, coming in late September. Stay tuned to discover more!
