Created by Christopher Maier: "Whereas sample instruments often boast about featuring the most virtuosic musicians recorded in the finest halls, what if a piece of music calls for the sound of a more novice player casually mic’ed up in their bedroom studio?

Inspired by Christian Henson’s philosophy that imperfection is what gives samples authenticity, I bring my first offering to the Pianobook community: the Bedroom Clarinet for Kontakt .

The instrument features two articulations - longs, which come with quite a bit of sometimes-shaky sustain and natural sounding releases, as well as one-shot shorts with 8 round-robin cycles. I also went ahead and scripted three knobs for the performance view: tremolo, vibrato, and speed, so you can get that warbly, mellotron-like sound."

Bedroom Clarinet

Created by Catherine Hillier: "Welcome to Subtle Clarinet, my first ever sample instrument.

During my time at Falmouth University, it came as a bit of a surprise to me as to just how many of my course mates were interested in, and wanted the sound of a clarinet as part of their projects in some form or another.  
Instead of using my clarinet to only play classical pieces which I had done prior, I was able to experiment with it in ways I had never considered before. As I learnt more about DAW and filtering live instruments through software, the idea of using a clarinet’s warm, rustic sound to create interesting soundscapes, experimenting with multiphonic notes, breathing techniques and improvisation really appealed to me. Since graduating, it has left me wanting to continue to utilise this beautiful instrument for everything that it is and has potential to be.

Here, I have created a soft, subtle clarinet sample with an ebb-and-flow dynamic texture. I tried to really highlight its natural, woody sound to add a new and interesting layer to a musician’s work. I recorded this very simply, in my living room, with the only microphone I currently possess: An M-Audio Luna.

I also hope that, from stretching myself creatively and stepping out of my comfort zone, it may encourage more female composers and musicians to explore and utilise this fantastic platform!"

Subtle Clarinet

Created by Dan Keen: "Welcome to The King’s Upright, a soft upright piano that cuts through a mix while maintaining a gentle tone palette.

It particularly thrives in the upper mid-range, serving well to deliver lyrical melodies to your pieces, solo or cinematic. There is also a pad layer included, which works well as an infinite sustain pedal. This blend can be adjusted using the Mod Wheel.

This instrument was recorded through a stereo pair of close-miked AKG C214s and Saffire Pro 40 interface, using Christian Henson’s medium-strength sampling template. The library has two dynamic layers (layer 1 and 2) and three round robins (RR1, RR2 etc). There are also some release triggers (RT) and pedal sounds (PU – pedal up, PD – pedal down). The custom pad sound blend can be adjusted using the mod wheel or you can right-click the blend knob to learn via whichever MIDI CC you like."

Furtive

I wanted to showcase the Dan Bau Pad in a sparse and lush setting. However as I went along I wanted the sweeps to develop different sorts of characteristics and by the end of it I had about six different pianobook pads intertwined into one. Sonic Booms are pitched down hits from both Upright Bass Drum, and Percussion Pallet, whilst The Lamp, Hohner Guitaret, and Amplified Music Box are working in the higher register. The ticking is Annie's Clock, and the piano is Kristiandsand Concert Steinway.
