As a prelude to the upcoming Soul:ution Room Two takeover on Friday 16th May, label boss Marcus Intalex and one of Manchester’s most reliable renegade emcees, DRS, have bumped consciousness and put together this, their ‘Mid Mic Crisis’ mix. Regular sparring partners in clubs the world over, DRS’ trademark measured Mancuian flow rides perfectly atop on Intalex’s soulful selection with his baritone delivery sitting sweetly and filling out the dynamic range of the rolling selections which reportedly feature, in some form, material from DRS’ forthcoming second album, Mid Mic Crisis.

Basically it’s a glorious and specifically tailored 62 minute mixtape showcase of DRS’ potency as a host, an emcee and a vocalist. But it comes mixed by Intalex which more than hints at the level of quality it contains... two of Manchester's finest in sterling form.

We're proud to bring you our latest Friday Feature, after just touching our shores and shaking Perth with a flawless set, this week we present to you Cern.

CERN- (DISPATCH RECORDINGS/ RENEGADE HARDWARE/ COMMERCIAL SUICIDE/ UPRISING/ PROJECT 51)

Taking a step back to 2001, two friends who shared a passion for electronic music decided to collaborate their forces to produce their idea of the sounds of drum and bass. After wrapping up with school, they started working in the nightclub industry in Auckland, and were regularly exposed to some of the worlds best DJ's and producers. With this constant flame of talent rolling through their hands, they decided to pick up the 1s and 2s at their local club, as well as at home in the studio, and within 7 years, Cern made a mark on the Drum and Bass scene, both locally in New Zealand, and internationally.

Unfortunately things took a turn for the worse in 2008, with the passing of half the duo Johnny Beck, remaining member Ollie decided to burry himself away and turned to what soothed the pain of his lost the most, music.

"The end result of his loss, his need to honor his friend's memory, and his passion is now truly undeniable. The name CERN has quickly become a globally recognized entity within the world of Drum and Bass".

Having released music on some of the scenes leading labels including the UK's Renegade Hardware, Critical, Cyanide Recordings and Samurai Music, collaborations soon started to pop up with names such as Loxy, Logistics, Sabre, Phace & Misanthrop, close friends Bulletproof, Teknik and Concord Dawn.

Ollie soon began gaining attention from some of the scenes leading players with that signature Cern sound being described by the legendary Virus co-founder Ed Rush as " the kind of music that you know u can listen to 2-3 years down the track and it still sounds good."

After dropping his latest album in October, "Under Another Sky", this is hands down Cern's finest production to date!

With tunes both self produced, and featuring names such as Loxy, Hydro, Overlook, DLR, and Gremlinz, this album explores the huge spectrum of Drum and Bass we all know today, from soothing ambient soundscapes, to Cern's dark side.

"The album is available digitally and on vinyl. The 15 track digital dropped on 27 October while the vinyl released in three parts. "

A massive big ups to Cern for coming down to shake things up at our debut event, and an even bigger ups for this tight mix, we look forward to see what Ollie pulls out next!

We’re proud to welcome Amoss back to Dispatch this October, as they deliver their much anticipated 2nd EP with four brand new tracks, entitled the ‘Shadow Theories EP’.  

Displaying the full spectrum of the duo’s sound, the EP also includes their next collaboration with Dutch producer Fre4knc, as well as additional features from Viv May and C.Tivey.

Whether it’s a speaker pulsator for the clubs or a subtly tech-tinged groove, Amoss have an inherent ability to master any vibe they turn to, seemingly effortlessly; delivering music that is aesthetically pleasing to fellow producers, without losing its wider dancefloor appeal. 

Old skool breaks, unpredictable percussive switches and an unmistakably infectious hook make up lead track ‘The Wayman Break’, followed by the neck churning ‘Vortice’ with Fre4knc, held by a ruthlessly tight drum pattern, a track displaying pure precision and attention to detail. 

Moving smoothly into ‘Stalling Theme’, the EP takes a more harmonic, tranquil direction, accompanied by a blissful blend of Viv May’s vocals and C.Tivey on the keys, before things take a darker turn on the technical stomper ‘Crooked Arm’, as Amoss close off proceedings.
