To kick off the new year, we’re adding to the GiraffeStep series with a release by SW England’s Crypticz, and to follow suite with DIFF005, we’re dropping it as an extended player. Four track’s built up over the past year compiled, mixed and mastered into the “Contact EP”.

‘Get Back’ sets the mood off sonically, with some almost dubstep groove thrown in along with Crypticz’s footwork influences. ‘We A Dem’ is the closest this EP gets to the dancefloor with it’s bass driven pulse groove and cheeky acapella chops. The third track is a collaboration, ‘Shift’ with Lakeway (who’s got some music lined up later on this year with the label) ­ shows off a seriously stripped back skeleton with moody bass, vocals and atmospherics. The EP is closed down with a lazy melodic and bassy number called ‘Promise’ (totally late night vibes on this one!).

SMYAH - Time Dispersion (A.Fruit Remix)

Blood Trust makes a pitch-black return to the Digital Red Label series with "Give Them Rope" and "Leagues Apart", revealing a decelerated, yet intricate evolution of the signature sound he first introduced on 3024. 

"Give Them Rope" navigates the murky terrain of mutant UK garage and grime influences, hinting at the pulse of Diwali-rhythm dancehall. An ever-present double-time roll punctuates through distorted ambience, evoking a sense of relentless drive. 

"Leagues Apart" delves deeper into the skeletal framework of UK garage, but deviates into a stripped-back, darker space with precision bursts of fragmented breaks. Are these tracks Drum & Bass or has Blood Trust begun an exploration of something else entirely?

As a long-term affiliate and remix collaborator on earlier projects, it was a given that Kahter would return for a full length EP. He delivers 4 low-slung, club-ready hits full of UK bass and techno flavour, complete with an additional 5th track; a remix from Italian bass don Kimber. The project, titled “Kord EP” explores subterranean depths, expansive sound design and intricate drum combos.
