Footwork is a Black dance style and electronic music genre originating in Chicago in the 1990s. Tune in to hear about its history and influence in the UK diaspora. Featuring live guest mixes from 2 DJs in the London footwork scene (@B0nni3.ft and @malt_beverage). Plus an exclusive interview with Tiger, one of the earliest pioneers of footwork culture in the UK.



Tiger (Interviewee): My name is Tiger. I fell in love with dancing from an early age, but didn't realise just how much I enjoyed it until I watched a live street dance show in the early 2000s which changed the course of my life for sure. Since then I began dancing everyday, joined crews, formed crews competed, became a dance teacher. Currently teaching Hip Hop and R&B at Pineapple Dance Studios in London. I'm also very much into the exploration of consciousness, the Self, and what some may call "spiritual" practices. I have a wide perception of reality.

Part of DJ collective & party series @step__to & co-run monthly @after.werks Chicago Footwork open decks & dance sessions at @aajamusic in London. Inspired by Chicago footwork, jersey club, UK jazz dance of 70s/80s, grime and ballroom culture to try and make spaces where dancers, DJs and producers can encourage each other creatively and where people feel welcome to dance.

Ebony / B0NNI3.FT (DJ): B0nni3.ft is a passionate music lover and DJ known for her dynamic mixes. She made her mark in 2021 during the pandemic by creating and hosting Ready for Battle, a radio show that electrified listeners with its intense blend of footwork, juke, and breaks. Designed to energise and inspire, her mixes guaranteed audiences were “ready to battle” with every track spun.

Neekeetone, whose real name is Nikita Mironov, is a Russian-born selector, producer, and finger drummer currently based in Montenegro. He is known for his work in genres such as jungle, drum and bass, dubstep  and UK garage.
