Fear of Living is more than just a track  it’s a descent into the abyss of sound. Built on a relentless hypnotic pulse that drives forward like a heartbeat under duress, while layers of brooding synths, ghostly textures, and shadowed atmospheres create a sense of both beauty and dread.
The track unfolds like a dark narrative, rising from eerie stillness into waves of tension and release. Each drop feels like a collapse of crumbling stone, each build like the tightening grip of fear itself. The result is a cinematic journey immersive, ominous, and deeply human in its exploration of vulnerability.
It speaks to those who dance on the edge where rhythm becomes ritual and music becomes a mirror of inner shadows.
Fear of Living delivers a rare combination of power and introspection. It is both weapon and confession a soundtrack for nights that blur into memory, for ruins both external and internal, and for the beauty that emerges when we confront the darkness within.

This May, we bought our Community Connections series to Paris, following previous editions in Los Angeles and Lisbon. The series brings our features, podcast and films into the real world through a number of community-based events focusing on vital local artists, collectives, promoters and venues pushing the scene forward.

We kicked off Community Connections Paris with a deep listening session at Silencio where Voiski channeled his inner Vangelis for this mediative improvisation.

Vermisst is a new collaborative project from Sam KDC, Torn and Korse. Working together to expand on the Grey Area sound, the Zerfall (disintegration) EP takes a more aggressive approach than past Grey Area releases.

From the lightning rod rave stabs of Zukunft and the rolling breakbeat textures of Zuruf, Vermisst work their polyrhythms into powerful propulsion. Zerfall and Zahnrad take a deeper approach with sheets of distortion splashed over the lurching beats.

With his first releases as Last Life for Loxy’s Cylon Recordings leaving a mark that propelled him into must-check zone with followers of stripped back, progressive DnB, Mauro Picciau has continued to advance the Last Life sound into a distinctive force. 

His recent tracks for Samurai Music compilations - Decade, Samurai Hannya, and Outliers, plus his own LL Series honed the deadly step forward carved out with his Samurai Music debut EP - Nootka in 2017. 

As the global pandemic hit, Mauro was secluded in his studio in Cagliari, Italy where he spent his time working on the finishing touches for Recon, his debut LP. 

The Last Life reputation is built on robust mixdowns, weighty kicks and incisive breakbeat layers. Cassius, Tunnel, Down The Mine and Omega are capsule Last Life tracks and have already found favour with selectors testing out Recon.

Tracks like RVNS, The Minimal and Escape introduce a new angle for the Last Life sound, less dance-floor designed but twisting themselves into essential set additions through sheer power.

Collaborations with Torn and Homemade Weapons add further fresh perspectives, aptly mixing their individual construction talents into a focused attack.

Recon is a confident, assured debut LP from one of Samurai Music’s most important artists, a producer who’s sound is an integral part of our labels sonic identity and will no doubt continue to be in years to come. Salute Last Life!

"One of our proudest accomplishments of 2019 was releasing the very first 170bpm tune from Donato Dozzy. Predominantly known as a Techno artist / DJ, Donato’s musical career is increasingly diverse. From his collaborative work with Neel as Voices From The Lake to his experimental ambient solo works, and his recent LP for Raster alongside Eva Geist stretching into synth pop, the maestro effortlessly reshapes any chosen sound with his distinctive touch.

Many were surprised by Donato turning to 170bpm production for his remix of Homemade Weapons ‘Svalsat’ but those who have researched or experienced much of Donato’s history will likely have imagined it in advance. As a 12 year resident at Rome’s Brancaleone - the storied Italian squat / cultural centre / underground club, Donato began introducing DnB into his sets in the mid 2000’s and more recently his sets posted online for Resident Advisor and Terraforma showed the maestro adeptly working DnB into his impressively tempo hopping journeys.

Naturally we hoped there would be more 170 productions coming after the remix and after a short time, the tracks for The Tao began appearing as the hardware hypnotist had refined his approach to the new tempo.

‘Mai’ is a deep reductionist build pinned down by a taut kick pattern that rises in hypnosis until unfolding into a delicious percussive tweak. ‘Dusty Bones’ ramps up the BPM’s and hyper energy, playful at the same time as being a potent weapon sure to delight adventurous DJs across the spectrum. ‘Sanza High’ dives back into the analog meditation with a winding lead, static kicks, perfectly placed snares and percussive touches. ‘Tao’ was the final track made for the EP. Named after Donato’s cat, the playful energy of the tune captures one of Tao’s moods. Easily the happiest tune we have ever released, Tao’s essence is a jubilant vivacity over a suitably bubbly rhythm.

As expected, ‘The Tao’ is an impressive 170 debut EP that we sincerely hope is just the beginning of the Maestro’s work in this tempo."

Starting his set with experimental drone he brings you to a state of endless internal wondering with solid baselines, mesmerizing beats and psychotropic melodies guiding you every step of the way. 
He is the owner of LARMES records that represents a full spectrum view of dark and experimental music with some dope visual artworks. With releases on his own label, Instinkt Records, Dissonanze Recordings this man is definitely worth to keep a close eye on.

DECENNIUM07 - Tasha b2b Cressida (Neighbourhood, VOITAX, Natural Selection)

Bringing in another firm injection of fierce Techno into our DECENNIUM series, we bring you an exclusive, rare b2b between our good friend Tasha and our long-standing resident Cressida.

A close friendship between Tasha and Cressida (Jena) was forged out of their heavy involvement in the London underground Techno scene for the best part of 10 years. Throughout this time many collaborations have occurred, affiliations / releases with the same labels and sharing DJ booths in London and all over Europe. This b2b mix for our DECENNIUM series was recently recorded on one of Tasha's frequent trips to her 2nd home Berlin, where Jena now permanently resides.

Tasha founded London heavyweight label Neighbourhood in 2016 after it started out as a night / party in 2010. She deserves huge respect for her hard work, passion and dedication to the London scene. As well as pushing Neighbourhood hard for the last 10 years, she has played at least a hundred sets from as far back as 2004 and has earned reputable status as a DJ, both in the Techno world but also as a Drum n Bass DJ, regularly featuring in the London circuit for the likes of Renegade Hardware and Rupture.

Heavily affiliated with the mighty Ilian Tape and our close family FOLD London, it was at the legendary 24-hr Ilian Tape party where we first had the pleasure of meeting Tasha and since then our co-founder Kodah has featured alongside her on the lineup for FOLD's UNSTREAM earlier this year and shortly after we finally asked Tasha to play for Natural Selection at our 10 year milestone live stream last month, playing a memorable b2b set with FOLD co-founder and NS resident Voicedrone.

Our long term resident Cressida was a regular feature of our first night’s in London when we first came down here in 2012, and he has since become a notable force in London and Berlin, releasing on heavyweight labels such as VOITAX, Monnom Black, Diffuse Reality and Krill. We had the pleasure of reuniting with Cressida in August last year when we flew him over for our colossal 16-hr Rave at FOLD, playing an unforgettable set in the daylight hours with the sun piercing through FOLD's infamous shutters. Jena was in good company alongside Regis, Kamikaze Space Programme, DJ T-1000 aka Alan Oldham, DJ Skull, Versalife, Morphology, to name a few. 

We hope you enjoy the pure madness in this mix as much as we did.
