Slovenian prodigy Akaj joined our Operator radio show for a mind-bending trip. The 20-year old runs his own label Origin, he is part of the Rite of Passage collective and has a developed taste in music. Needless to say, but keep an eye on him in the coming years and you won't be disappointed.

Charlotte de Witte & Enrico Sangiuliano have come together to serve up a very personal remix of the hugely influential self-titled classic by Age Of Love. It lands on the original Belgian label Diki Records on August 13th.

Age Of Love wrote and released their most iconic track in 1990. It went on to become a stone-cold dance classic that inspired a whole trance movement that has endured throughout the years. 

The idea to remix 'Age Of Love' started taking shape when KNTXT boss Charlotte was in lockdown with esteemed Italian techno artist Enrico at the end of February last year. As soon as the track was finished, it was played in several live streams and the online community quickly fell in love. The remix bears all the hallmarks of both producers, who between them have a number of Beatport hits and have crafted everything from the darkest drums to the most emotional synths to great effect.

Say Charlotte and Enrico, "It's a very meaningful track for both of us, for various reasons, and it brings back many joyful memories. Remixing such a legendary track was a super fun thing to do, but we noticed how easily and spontaneously we could work together in the studio. We are beyond excited to finally unleash our remix to the world. And this at a time where the world finally seems to be going back to normal. There is no better time for a New Age Of Love. We're ready."

'Age Of Love' (Charlotte de Witte & Enrico Sangiuliano Remix) is a big, driving techno roller. It has heavyweight drums and stripped back percussion which leaves plenty of room for the ionic synth lead and spine-tingling vocals to ring out and really work the crowd into a trance. 

This fantastic remix brings a new perspective to one of dance music's most celebrated and influential tracks.

For this one I came up with 1h+ that is a slightly different from my last couple of podcasts / mixes. Musically I went with a pretty high pace here but still keeping it on the deep, sweet & intimate side of things.

When it comes to the sound of modern-day techno—fast, melodic and polyglot, working in genres like trance and gabber—it's hard to find an artist more clearly representative than Anetha. The French DJ encompasses all these influences with style, landing on a lithe sound that's both heavy and nimble, earning her a first residency at Paris party Blocaus (and, currently, Awakenings and Fuse, among others) and appearances on labels like Work Them and Oaks.

What really sets Anetha apart, though, is her commitment to developing and uplifting the artists around her. She launched her own label, Mama Told Ya, in 2019 with a unique and heartwarming concept: each release would highlight an artist, often young or new to the game, and feature one collaboration with Anetha herself. It's a move that turns the usual label-artist dynamic on its head, making each new record a fully-fledged collaboration, and lending her own gravitas to the artist she features. And a year later she started an agency—or what she calls a "creative engine"—to help those artists in a more holistic way.

Her RA Podcast is a perfect way to start 2023: with energy and verve, and a perfect balance of light and dark. This is techno at its most creative, dark and discombobulated beats cut through with glowing vocal samples from some of the most recognizable songs of the past five years. If you wanted to explain to someone what techno sounds like in 2023, you'd do well to start here.

Vlad Caia learned classical music before he was a producer, which makes sense when you listen to any of his releases. Like many of his Romanian peers, Caia’s music is slow-burning and organic, with more of a focus on subtle elements than big drops or bass lines. Originally inspired by scene leaders [a:rpia:r], Caia is part of a new generation of producers that have brought attention to Romania’s rich music scene in the last few years. 

Though primarily known as a solo artist, for much of his career Caia has been linked to the Romanian producer Cristi Cons. The pair can often be found making and playing stripped-back minimal together as SIT, as well as performing live under the alias Amorf, where they play a style of rich jazz-influenced house alongside pianist Mischa Blanos. They also run Amphia, a vinyl-only label that’s printed music from some of Romania’s key artists and will release Caia’s debut album later on this year. 

Caia plays Farringdon alongside Romanian staples Priku and Petre Inspirescu this Saturday, so we contacted him for a mix ahead of the date. For his mix he recorded an hour of typically organic soundscapes, before discussing sharing his unreleased music with friends, Romania’s afterhours culture, and his forthcoming release plans.
