For the next instalment of our Record Club Mix series we’re honoured to be passing the baton to Tokyo-based DJ duo BIB and MOE FURUYA. Influenced by early ‘70s soul and funk, as well as Chicago-style ‘80s disco and boogie their strictly vinyl-only sets see them playing week in week out, alongside hosting a monthly residency on the online radio station TSUBAKI fm.

“On a cold February night in Tokyo, we gathered at BIB’s home with our records and recorded the mix in a single session. Rather than a back-to-back track-by-track format, we recorded by combining different sections from each of us. We wanted to create a feel-good mix that captures the sensation of dancing barefoot in beautiful settings. This mix is a reflection of our passion for energetic music and the dancefloor. 

BIB, who has a knack for funky sounds, opened the mix with the beautiful flute melodies of Paul Horn’s ‘High Tide’, adding unexpected twists with Italo-disco gem Bravo’s ‘Touch Me Now’ and Barons’ ‘Keep The Music Coming’ to keep the mix dynamic. MOE, known for smooth disco transitions, brought in catchy grooves like King Errisson’s ‘Living It Up On Jupiter’ and Southroad Connection’s ‘Just Laying It Down’, before lifting the energy to euphoric heights with Uncle Louie’s ‘Sky High’, making it a perfect journey from start to finish.” - BIB and MOE FURUYA

Neapolitan composer, producer, and keyboardist Giorgio Lopez sets sail on Berlin-based label Cosmic Romance with his “Sud des Îles”. Navigating between 80s-inspired grooves, French boogie, and sun-kissed atmospheres, the record unfolds like a musical travelogue, following fictional skipper Georges Taty and his crew of musicians aboard the sailboat “Sud des Îles”, caught between racing waves, late-night jams, and dockside dreams.

From the whirling groove of "Voyager Sans Bouger" to the breezy atmosphere of "Toujours Distante", the eight tracks on Sud des Îles invite listeners to drift away in rhythm and reverie through a songwriting that is both infectious and evocative. The Customary Finesse EP showcases a thoughtful dialogue between deep house and soulful techno, delivered with analogue warmth and understated elegance. Life Recorder’s “Blues in Flight” opens the A-side with layered synth work, warm pads, and hypnotic percussion—offering a deep, introspective glide for the dancefloor. Laak’s “Apophis” follows with a moodier, late-night pulse, featuring dubby textures and subtle melodic progressions that hint at cosmic tension. On the flip, Laak’s Retroflex Remix of “Blues in Flight” transforms the original into a minimalistic groove, dripping in tape-saturated nostalgia and spacey motifs. Life Recorder returns with the “House 2 Jazz Remix” of “Apophis,” blending swing-infused drum programming with jazzy chord stabs and expressive basslines—perfect for warm-up sets or sunrise moments.
