DJH ‘Unfinished Biznizz EP’ 

DJH was 15 when he wrote his first EP back in 1993. That EP became a near mythic release within the hardcore vinyl collecting circles with a price tag of over £700 on Discogs! Vinyl Fanatiks tracked down Danny and organised its re-release back in 2019, with the release selling out rapidly.

Now DJH is back, 27 years later, in the studio recording his first hardcore tracks since the glory years, inspired by the love and support shown by all who bought his repress. So if that was you, thank you for making him return to his first love. And what a return it is. Four incredibly authentic hardcore tracks, recorded in 2020, including his smasher from the ‘Hardcore Lockdown’ album – ‘Hold Tight’. Not only that, but he has revisited his seminal tune ‘Petruccio’ and has remixed it.

Amen Brother Biog:

In the early weeks of Lockdown, around the end of March 2020, DJH called me up with an idea.  “I was thinking, it would be nice to give the Vinyl Fanatiks supporters a free tune as a thank you for backing my repress and as a little gift during these difficult times, something to cheer people up” he said. I liked the idea, I liked it a lot and it got me thinking; ‘Why don’t I approach all the artists I have worked with over the past 18 months and see if they too feel like getting into the studio and making a new tune, but for it to sound like it was made in the early 90s?’ A few phone calls and emails were made and within a week I had 14 producers and groups going into the studio, each writing a fresh track. The free album ‘Hardcore Lockdown’ was created and subsequently released in May 2020. I had no idea it would be as successful as it was, with over 5000 downloads in a few weeks, and many messages that it would be great if these tracks would appear on vinyl. Now that was music to my ears and it again got me thinking!

Rather than release the project as a triple vinyl piece, I thought it would be a great opportunity to get each artist and group to write an EP, which would include their track from the album, and to release these EPs on vinyl as well as digital. But I felt it wouldn’t be right for these to come out on Vinyl Fanatiks as it would be too confusing. Vinyl Fanatiks is a repress label; these were brand new tunes, made by the original wizards of the scene. I needed a new label! For the past year I had been mulling over starting a new label and had already come up with the name and the branding. I just didn’t have a direction for it yet. But now I did… Amen Brother was born.

Amen Brother is a label that continues the vibes of the early 90’s but comes correct with fresh music. The music needs to feel like it was made back in the day - it needs to have that connection, whether written by an original artist from that era, or a remix of music from that era. But with the bar being raised so high by Vinyl Fanatiks, I needed to be sure that Amen Brother continued with that level of quality, from the authenticity of the music, to the high levels of presentation that my customers expect from us.

As a matter of fact, there would not have been a soul present, if the accused had not had the most popular of counsels to defend them—Maître Henri Robart! Fandor joined a group who were on familiar terms evidently, and, although he had not seen her for many a day, he at once recognised Mother Toulouche by her remarkable appearance and grotesque get up. He had had so many other irons in the fire, that he had not followed this smuggling case at all closely: he was surprised, therefore, to see Mother Toulouche in the little passage adjoining the court, for he had the impression that the old receiver of stolen goods had been under lock and key for some weeks.... She was now being interviewed by one of his colleagues. Fandor went up to them. Though she had not been accused of anything so far, the old storekeeper was vehemently protesting her innocence. "Yes," she declared to her interviewer, "it is abominable, when such things are discovered all of a sudden!" Mother Toulouche went on to explain that on Clock Quay she rented a small shop for the sale of curiosities: that she was an honest woman, who had never wronged a soul by as much as a farthing: all she asked was to be left in peace to earn a decent living, so that she could retire from business some day or other.... Everyone had a right to ask as much as that!... Her store consisted of two rooms and an underground cellar, in which she had put a quantity of old odds and ends, when she had moved to her present abode.... She never descended to this cellar, never at all: she was far too much afraid of rats to venture down there! Not she! But, one day, if you please, when she was quietly engaged in mending some old clothes, the police had suddenly burst into her store!... And they had accused her of receiving smuggled goods and false money, and she didn't know what more besides!...
