It’s been a minute (or around four years) since the world last heard from Long Island-repping emcee, John Reilly. The thing is, it’s not as if he spent that time off with his feet up or even completely removed from music. Quite the opposite, as he’s been dealing with nearly everything life could throw at him: family issues, depression. fatherhood, and death. In spite of it all, he never stopped writing and instead used it as the inspiration for his stellar new EP, 'Standing in the Face of Time,' with Chicago producer Rediculus.

Reilly’s passion is clear from the jump on lead single “Do That Sh*t,” a track made for live shows and battle scenarios. But it’s on the gripping “Rabbit Hole” that he opens up overcoming his personal problems and not giving up: “Truly thought of quittin’ music after all this time and effort/ But, a writer’s who I am inside my very essence.”

Not that he needed to, but Reilly more than backs up his writing abilities on “What Goes Around,” a tragic tale of abuse that centers on a woman named Jolene. In addition to detailing her difficulty escaping a hellish cycle, Reilly at one point embodies her cold abuser. It’s a harrowing, well-written listen that touches on the realities of domestic violence.

Elsewhere, Reilly is more carefree, dropping hilarious Billy Madison references on “Bully Pulpit” while Rediculus supplies the lighthearted instrumental. They’re joined by New Jersey’s Rich Quick, who ends the track with a verse worthy of a sh*t-eating grin. And on closer “No Matter The Cost,” Reilly deftly blends his more serious and bravado-leaning sides over Rediculus’ head-nodding production. It’s a fitting way to close out 'Standing,' an EP that proves time away doesn’t mean a damn thing.

My mom always has and still encourages me and supports me towards fulfilling my dreams whatever dreams those might be. I know its been really hard on her, especially after losing James and then my dad. And through all that, she still had the strength to keep moving forward strong. And  I just really wanted my mom to know how much I appreciated her support, and how much i admire her strength and courage. 

As we grow older, we don't always go in line with what our parents would want us to do. Especially coming from a family where your entire family is in the public eye and involved in the industry. Alpha Faktion, the hard-hitting New York rap trio comprised of Azwun, Kraze ILLA and DJ Enyoutee have officially taken back the reigns of their careers, and more importantly, their art with the recent release of their album 'Creative Control.'

The perfectly-crafted LP is brimming with raw, energetic Boom bap meant to push back the closing circle of new millennial commercial rap and take both the culture and art form back to basics with no filter, nor filler; even recruiting the legendary Marley Marl to pay homage on “The Lineage.”

On the lead single off his forthcoming compilation LP, 'Timeless Music,' Long Island producer BP The Neckbreaker laces grimy strings and slapping drums for “Stacking Ammo,” a hard-hitting collaboration featuring Wu-Tang affiliates, Frukwan and 9th Prince.

The track represents the first we’re hearing from the beatsmith’s 18 track compilation album, which boasts a slew of notable guests including late rap legends Sean Price and Prodigy. And on “Stacking Ammo,” BP displays his affinity for crafting joints that perfectly match the tough talk and wordplay of the extended Wu family.

Frukwan (of Gravediggaz) and 9th Prince (of Killarmy) previously joined forces on the latter’s One Man Army album, and “Stacking Ammo” continues the tradition of these two sounding like they need to record a full album together…immediately. Their back-to-back verses are raw and full of quotables, all of which sound even better thanks to BP’s bone-chilling production.
