As far as innovative producers go, there aren’t many who can hold a candle to ATL’s own Shanti. Known for his
uniquely twisted take on bass heavy 140 music, Shanti has been making literal waves around the world, collecting
features on heavyweight labels such as Brunswick Sound and most recently Southpoint.

His latest EP, released via Elliptic Audio Research is truly groundbreaking stuff, focussing heavily on raw, crunchy
sound design and a collection of emotionally provoking synth sounds. The overall cohesion within the EP’s track
listing is phenomenal, bringing the phrase ‘Amphibious’ to life with such vivid colours and rhythmic progression,
similar to that of the ocean itself.

The first track ‘Portals Of Light‘ is an experience that sets off the whole project perfectly. Luscious layers of audible
aquatics sit balanced perfectly beneath sweeping synthesis alongside a beautiful key and vocal introduction. 

The progression is flawless as we move into ‘Reality Of Sonar’, which is built of a similar structure, with a twist. We’re now
below the waves rather than in the pools at the shoreline. This is where unpredictable rhythmic elements come into
play with skippy drum patterns switching at will between half-time and four by four.

The progression continues subtly into the most upbeat section of the EP entitled ‘Sensualist’. Here we start to hear
more typical Shanti styles come into play with some incredible organ work and dubbed out vocal arrangement. The
second half of the track suddenly strikes with more choppy rapid styles of drum pattern and bass sound design that
can’t help but feel Shanti has been waiting to unleash. 

Finally we start to ascend to the surface again with the
stunning arrangement of ‘Poseidon's Cove’. There isn’t much more to say than what a fantastic way to finish an
incredible musical journey. 

Shanti has certainly outdone himself with this one.

Boston-based producer Saltus highlights his experimental artistic perspective with his latest single, Convergence. Haunting and beautiful, the track possesses a fitting name to match its unique artistic convergence of innovative soundscapes. Certain, familiar musical qualities come to mind with glitchy transitions, heavy dark basslines, and echoing vocals; however, this track harnesses a distinct and uncommon feeling. Saltus' crisp sound design takes this song to a world all of its own.

Take a pure and undiluted dive into sonic psychedelia with Formed, a five-track EP from Zonra, a veteran of experimental bass music. Although abstract electronica has always been a calling card for Jackson Hale (Zonra), he continues to test the limits of his creative faculties, and Formed is the splendid result. 

Formed is detail-oriented electronic music. Crisp programmed percussion pairs well with resonant hand drum samples. Provocative sound design is arranged into complex structures resembling a four-dimensional jigsaw puzzle. The producer, who hails from Albuquerque, New Mexico, is recognized for his stylistic flexibility. Although Formed leverages psydub motifs, the release cannot easily be pegged with a traditional classification. Rather, it’s an exercise in experimentation. 

Formed ultimately represents an unfolding, a manifestation on the physical plane of imagery conceived on the spiritual. The complexity of the imagery means that successive listens may yield new results. Spend time with Formed and one will realize that things may not be in the end as they seem at first.
