The In the Moment Remix Tape reworks the already-chopped, altered, and looped spontaneous compositions of Makaya McCraven's 2xLP In the Moment. Crossing the boundaries of improvisation, composition and sampling, nine producer/beat makers from around the globe reworked the tracks into new beats and creations of repurposed audio. Makaya then remixed their remixes into two continuous mixtape sides, blending them with beats of his own, resampling the samplers of his original sliced and sampled spontaneous compositions.

In Hour 2 we hand over to Rafael Anton Irisarri for his Solid Steel Ambient mix to celebrate the release of his new cassette on Umour Rex called El Ferrocarril Desvaneciente. While composed as an ode to an overnight train journey through Spain he took many years ago, the music picks up sonically where his
previous album Sirimiri left off. Irisarri focuses on deploying sonic cycles throughout these four shorter pieces, basing much of this sweeping ambience around looped sounds and distant pulses. The sound is however kept in a state of forward motion and constant evolution, invoking the slowly rumbling night train that inspired it —not to mention its cargo of misfits and travelers. Inspired by musical storytellers such as Lee Hazelwood, Lou Reed, or Leonard Cohen, his music is transforming into something closer to narrative ––“storytelling without words,” He said this about his mix "Ambient mix featuring dear friends. This album has been a long time in the making, and as my best real full album length effort, I wanted it to be as special as possible. I put this preview together to showcase the album, and try and show the variety of tracks it is made up of. For those that don't know, I was away for a month interailling around Europe. The trip was great, but unfortunately my backpack containing a large amount of expensive music gear was stolen from my arms. I was producing as I went, using samples I gathered from the places I visited. But looks like that wasn't to be. Any money made from this album will go towards buying the equipment lost (Zoom H1 Sampler, Laptop, Kaossilator, Multiple pairs of headphones, Harmonica's etc). The album is an attempt to get across the feelings of exploration and journeying I experienced on my travels, in audible form, and that is where the title stems from.

The tracks are quite long as they develop slowly, much in the manner of how I write a lot of music actually. Sometimes they are messy and experimental, sometimes they form into tunes. This one is one of the more tuneful ones so I thought I'd make it publicly available for once.

Live Improvisation Stream - Jan21

Cinematic electronica's chief complainer.  Andy Dobson has been recording as Digitonal since the late 90s.  Part of the late phase of UK melodic electronica, he came to prominence on the seminal Toytronic Records label with a track on the Neurokinetic compilation and a debut album on the label shortly afterwards.  Since then he has recorded for Seed Records, Cactus Island, Uncharted Audio, B12 and Just Music who released Save Your Light for Darker Days in 2008, followed by a retrospective compilation.  Alongside frequent collaborator, Egyptian violinist Samy Bishai, and a flexible array of band members, Digitonal have toured extensively and have been in demand as a live act, known for their improvised sets of great range and beauty.
