Weezer's debut album was released on May 10 1994, and I was almost immediately smitten with it. Chugging overdriven guitars, jangly hooks and idiosyncratic lyrics that made references to things like X-men comics and The Mary Tyler Moore Show; it's remained in constant rotation in my ears over the intervening thirty years. When I was in cover bands as a teenager in England, everybody wanted to play Oasis or The Verve or Ocean Colour Scene. Nobody wanted to do Weezer songs, because they weren't considered 'cool.' Well, the hell with cool. I'll be uncool every day for the rest of my life if it means I can still love the Blue Album.
