Our Brooklyn-Amsterdam connection has been growing stronger each day in the past few years. The bond our platform has with artists and labels from Amsterdam is truly special. The amount of talented artists and quality music that emerges (almost feels like daily) from the vibrant Dutch scene is mind-boggling. In that type of environment you really need to do something original and of high quality to get recognized. One of the record labels that has been on a steady rise since their initial release in 2017, Kalahari Oyster Cult seems to be making all the right moves. For all good reasons, Kalahari Oyster Cult is considered as one of the most exciting imprints nowadays which pushes the boundaries of electronic music with each new release and is home to artists like Roza Terenzi, Erell Ranson, Cleveland, A Psychic Yes and Reptant to name a few. 

The mastermind behind all this is Rey Colino, DJ and curator, whose mixes have been on heavy rotation in our HQs. In 2020, Colino started a new project - a vinyl-focused distribution service One Eye Witness. The project acts as a missing link between record labels and artists that share similar philosophies and provides them with a foundation to further develop. By being the main curator for both Kalahari Oyster Cult and One Eye Witness and with the amount of quality music that goes through his hands on a daily basis, Rey Colino is a perfect addition to our 'Delayed with...' series. 

The mix Colino made for us is a brilliant, feel-good energetic voyage that features tons of forthcoming releases. Technically immaculate with a great vibe all over, this mix is one of the best we heard this year. Hats off, Rey Colino!

Pat Brick aka DJ Life has been on a steady rise since his debut record released in 2019 with Echocentric Records, corresponding with the labels first release. The Aussie DJ and producer has since had a total of eight releases with prominent underground labels such as Dansu Discs, R.A.N.D. Muzik, and most recently, Lobster Theremin’s Distant Horizons sublabel. The energetic and fun take at combining prog, trance and techno has landed DJ Life’s name amongst the top in his league of sound.

We caught up with DJ Life on this edition of MIXED BY to discuss a bit about his music production, influences and the Australian underground dance music scene.

Abdul Raeva are a pair of Estonian-based producers who have been making quite a name for themselves in a relatively short amount of time. Having only released their first tracks in February of 2020, the young upstarts are already garnering features on underground labels such as Gestalt Records, Mint Tea, Neptune Discs and Dance All Day Records.

Already building a reputation with their emotionally-driven dub techno melodies, Abdul Raeva seemed primed for a big year - reaching more audiences than ever before.
