As part of our continuing efforts to celebrate and support the best in underground music, we are excited to present the DJ Directory, which aims to shine a spotlight on some of the best unsigned yet burgeoning DJ talent that our festival family and friends have been lucky enough to play with and listen to, since our beginnings six years ago. The Directory also serves as a space for Dimensions’ network of promoters, producers, labels and attendees to find out more about unsigned DJs accredited by the festival and our trusted partners.

We launched the Directory in 2017 with a mix series and had a selection of the DJ’s join us at the festival. In 2018 the Directory will continue to grow and support these DJ’s across various events and projects.

We're excited to present the DJ Directory Live Series, in partnership with Smirnoff - shining a spotlight on a group of talented, emerging artists from across Europe who played at Dimensions in 2017.

Next up is Stamp The Wax resident Harri Pepper. Pulling out selections spanning everything from ambient jazz and poetic interludes to rarities and beyond, Harri's set on the beach was one of our highlights of the festival and seems to only get better the more we listen to it. The perfect soundtrack to any chilled afternoon (although beachside to the bright blue waters of the Adriatic is going to be something hard to top).

DJ Directory Live from Dimensions 2017 - Harri Pepper

We're proud to announce additions to the DJ Directory for 2018. We kick things off with DJ and party promoter https://soundcloud.com/ashlauryn, hailing from Detroit, currently based in Atlanta, Ash provides 65-minutes of killer selects for the first mix in the series this year. 

Ash specialises in underground dance music and says most of her influence stems from her roots back home in Detroit. As an active member of the dance music community for over a decade, Ash has hosted her own event series called ORBIT and is currently a resident DJ with Atlanta’s Deep South crew.

We're excited to introduce an exclusive mix by Molinaro for our DJ Directory series. The most exciting thing about London’s Molinaro, is that his talent is still yet to be discovered by most...

The selector/producer has spent over a decade plying his craft behind the decks, inching his way up from pirate radio and warm-up duties to increasingly more established set times. This slow simmer has allowed him to build up an enviable taste that now dips between genres and styles with the type of smoothness that needs to be experienced rather than described.

Molinaro - DJ Directory Mix

Earning stripes in music working for Honest Jons, Sound Signature, Wildheart Recordings and Sounds Familiar, Kwasiba Savage is currently label manager at Brownswood Recording. She regularly presents on Worldwide FM as well as co-hosting monthly NTS radio show and club night ‘In Flames’ which explores the distinctive and infinitely varied grooves of post-punk music. Grounded in the roots of rhythm, Ruby passionately shares her love for the dance through genre-defying DJ sets.

Kwasiba Savage - DJ Directory Mix

https://soundcloud.com/wearekiarascuro is the moniker of friends Rosie Ama and Nadia. Formerly under ATLAS Radio, the pair have hosted regular shows on Reprezent Radio and Worldwide FM, where they showcased their tastes for varying genres and sounds from across the globe, and invited guests like Gilles Peterson and Mehmet Aslan to join them. Their new regular slot on South London's Balamii Radio sees them playing the darker and weirder side of their collections, and has helped land them a residency at Peckham's newest music venue, Ghost Notes, alongside some fellow DJ Directory members.

We'll leave it to them to describe this one...
"This mix is full of songs that excite us at the moment. From the wavey guitar sounds at the beginning to the heavy EBM techno at the end, we wanted to show the breadth of our sets and how heavy we can go when the time is right! There are some unreleased bits in there from Blind Delon, Desert Sound Colony, Tin Man and our homeboy Jake AKA Pris."

Kiara Scuro - DJ Directory Mix

Michael Upson has been at the forefront of the DIY party scene in Leeds for the last decade, most recently founding the pumping gay dance party: Love Muscle. Starting just over two years ago in response to the generally dire state of queer night-life in Leeds, Love Muscle aims to provide an inclusive space for the LGBTQ population of the city with a slightly more discerning music taste. "We want to make people feel good about themselves and to celebrate their sexuality through the music that's ultimately a part of their history." The night also operates a strict no photography and safer spaces policy to allow people to truly explore who they want to be uninhibited. 

Love Muscle and its subsequent radio show on KMAH has provided a platform for him to bring some of the finest underground queer talents in electronic music to the city.

Nas1 are a Bologna-based production duo with a tough signature sound they've developed handling analogue machines and vinyl since 2010.

Their sound has been noticed by those who appreciate the blend of raw techno and house roots crossed by soulful undertones. It comes as no surprise then, their first release saw them collaborate with Detroit's golden boy Kyle Hall on a track included in "The Boat Party Bonus” EP on his own Wild Oats label. With other records also releasing on distinctive underground labels like Robert Crash’s NBST Limited and Money $ex Records run by Glenn Astro and Max Graef.

Francesco and Federico are also founders and art directors of Revolver, a cultural association committed to the disclosure of the finest underground electronic music nowadays. Their events take place at Bologna Modern Art Museum lounge bar where they have shared decks with the likes of Funkineven, Marcellus Pittman, Byron The Aquarius, Ron Morelli, Dj Sotofett and a lot more.

Daisy Moon is a DJ and producer based in Bristol, UK, and a key protagonist in the city’s underground dance music scene. Known for weaving strands including techno, electro and deep house into her immersive and blended sets, Daisy cut her teeth as a resident at the Idle Hands-affiliated club night, Brstl, a monthly event dedicated to artists and DJs making and playing music in the city.

Next up for our DJ Directory series in collaboration with https://soundcloud.com/stampthewax is Dutch-Japanese artist https://soundcloud.com/masalo-music who is considered part of the new wave of Amsterdam music creatives. His musical outcomes offer multiple perspectives of his universe, combining a love for soulful dance music with the raw Amsterdam aesthetic. Masalo’s dj sets are proof of this mentality, unearthing unfamiliar sounds and combining them with records that could be seen as modern-day successors. This approach is also translated in his production art. Productions as ‘Testify’, ‘Red Light’ and his remix on Grammy-nominated artist Bassekou Kouyaté’s ‘Jama Ko’, has stirred up the dance music community worldwide. Masalo’s creations are also favoured by Rush Hour Records.

Together with Kamma, Masalo runs the dance party series Brighter Days, a colourful get-together celebrating dance music culture to the fullest. Artists as Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy, Hunee, Kuniyuki, Osunlade, Ge-ology and many more have rocked these parties. With class-act performances at clubs such as Contact Tokyo and Djoon Paris and festivals such as Liverpool Disco Festival and Dimensions, Masalo is vastly continuing to inspire dance music culture around the world.

Having been obsessed with music from a young age, it was discovering hip-hop in his teens that led him to try his hand at DJing. Style wise, Sean selects from a wide spectrum of sounds, cultures and eras – just at home mixing Herbie Hancock into Sandra de Sá as he is blending more contemporary dance floor cuts. Tiff’s Joints is an extension of his own tastes, categorised only as releasing “wild music”, “human music” or more specifically, “music you have to go out and hunt down with a bow and arrow”. With releases planned throughout the year, 2018 looks to be an exciting one for the imprint…

Born Cheating -  DJ Directory Mix

York has never had a reputation for being a party town. However, tucked away just within the historic city walls lies Bar Lane Studios, where Sam Jefferies divulges his passion as a painter by day and a DJ by night under the guise of Yuri.

Now living in Leeds, Sam is fast establishing a reputation for having a musical knowledge beyond his years and a record collection that could outmatch selectors well into their 30s. In this exclusive 6 hour recording for our DJ Directory series, we get a glimpse into this vast collection from hip-hop, funk and soul to house, electro, disco and beyond.

Yuri - DJ Directory Mix

Pat and Ben have been quietly going about their Heels & Souls project for the last 3 years now, throwing quality non-for-profit parties around the capital with the emphasis on eclectic DJ’s and interesting spaces. Through this they’re gaining recognition as talented DJ’s in their own right, releasing podcasts for Test Pressing and Ransom Note, making waves on the festival circuit and regularly playing around London; everything from audiophile haunts, to the capitals radio stations and now more regularly clubs to boot. Style wise the pair are as comfortable selecting jazz and soul as they are at seamlessly blending boogie, Italo, proto-house, electro and whatever else finds it’s way into their collections. As they’ve developed musically, so too has Heels & Souls’s fundraising initiative grown in scope and scale, tasking themselves with raising £5,000 for the inspirational, music based, mental health charity Key Changes by the end of the year.

Yukari BB's style focusses around soul, jazz, funk, brazillian, house, disco and more, and in 2000 thought to focus this passion and give djing a whirl. In 2004, Yukari moved to London and while here experienced famous club nights such as the Co-Op parties at plastic people. Yukari BB returned home to Japan in 2007, heavily influences by these parties and their musical style.

This mix, recorded live at a recent gig - shows her ability to provide fun-focussed selections and keep dance-floors alive from the start til finish of her set.

Danielle is a DJ and Illustrator from London, currently based in Bristol, who, over the last couple of years has had the chance to play at some of the city’s best parties including Timedance, Livity Sound and Young Echo, as well as some of the world’s best clubs such as Corsica Studios, Sub Club and Griessmeule. 

Her sets feature an impressive range of genres from deep house to leftfield, electro, new-wave, UK techno and beyond. She draws from an informed selection of old school house cuts, whilst keeping up to date with the newest dance music as it’s released. This is thanks to a musical education that continues to expand with her 9 years (and counting) of work at the internationally-renowned Phonica Records. In addition to hosting regular NTS shows, she is a resident alongside fellow directory member Daisy Moon at BRSTL (a monthly club night showcasing Bristol-based talent) and is one of the mentors at the increasingly popular Bristol-based DJ workshop ‘Mix Nights’.

His sets consist of a variety of house and techno with influences taken from late 80’s and 90’s records and DJ’s from Chicago, Detroit and the UK. Recorded live in the Ballroom, this set is a clear example of his passion for classic records and his eye for a foot-stomping modern release.

Minus Kendal - DJ Directory Live 2018

Champagne Funk are the duo that dig deeper. Consisting of Bryce’s Brother and Dique, the two DJs are known for exploring a rich tapestry of sounds from post-punk to UK Street Soul, Chicago House and beyond with selections both sophisticated and funky. In addition to playing parties across the country, the pair also hold down a residency on South London radio station Balamii.

In this mix as part of our DJ Directory series, the pair explore the weirder side of their collection: a mix of old and new but all in a similar vein of dark, twisted chug. The more experimental sounds of the left-field heavily influence the mix, yet it's underpinned with that trademark Champagne Funk groove. Dig in.

We're pleased to announce a new addition to the DJ Directory family. Emily Hill AKA https://soundcloud.com/can_u_feel_ml3 is part of the team behind https://soundcloud.com/bradleyzero and https://soundcloud.com/internationalblack, keeping things ticking over at the labels and helping to curate their regular club nights. As a DJ and radio host she holds down residencies on South London’s Balamii and Noods in Bristol, and can also be found working behind the counter at Soho vinyl institution, Sounds of the Universe.

With this mix we get a small insight into her love of weird party bangers and her natural ability to get a party started. With talent and dedication in abundance, her growth as an artist and selector show no signs of stopping anytime soon.
