Amberoom discussed the collaborative nature behind the release, stating: "It’s another collaboration from a group of writers, musicians and producers based in Los Angeles and Essen (Germany), who have worked together for more than a decade. The result is a song about losing yourself in the beauty of love.”

Forces Of Nature leads the way on the A-side, melding ethereal key rolls with warming pads throughout. Lucas Frota and Blakkat’s remix soon arrives, taking on a tribal edge as safari-like drum patterns marry up next to soothing piano chimes. The B-side sets off with the first of Radio Slave’s ‘New Age Of Love’ remixes, a homage to 1990 Breakbeat House that feels perfectly placed for the forthcoming Summer of Love. Part II rounds off proceedings, opting for a breaks-heavy, hip-hop laced bassline and echoing vocal tones.

Amberoom is a project by producers Manuel Tur and Adrian Hoffmann, and DJ veteran Ramin Nouyan. The collective have built up a steady catalogue of original EPs since 2017, releasing on several of the scene’s most well-respected labels in the form of Josh Wink’s Ovum, Dixon and Âme’s Innervisions as well as Adana Twins’ TAU recordings. Shaboom Records-head Blakkat is well-established in the contemporary electronic music sphere. The LA-based artist has released music on the likes of Josh Wink’s Ovum and Loco Dice’s Desolat and remixed some of popular music’s biggest icons including New Order, Lizzo and A Tribe Called Quest. LA’s BabyGirl is a fast-rising multicultural and multi-talented singer, songwriter, DJ, producer, and founder of music label Zone64. To date, she has recorded with the likes of Blakkat, DJ Larse and Lucas Frota, as well as featuring on DJ Sneak’s remix of Do The Damn Thing by Snoop Dogg, Nipsey Hussle and George Clinton.

Superfreq kicks off 2014 in some style with this new five track EP from Dance Spirit, the mysterious American duo that work around a philosophy based on attaining subconscious harmony through rhythm, timbre, melody, and movement. So far they have done so on labels like Supernature and Maison d'Etre as well as Superfreq of course, and this magical EP once again proves they are in a class of their own.

The EP was made during a 6 week stay in sunny Barcelona but it comes with a sombre side note from the duo: “Being around the scene as long as we have you see people get sucked into the dark side of drugs and partying, and in LA there have even been a few suicides in our dance community, so its a message about respecting the music and the culture. If you are here to escape, you might want to tell someone and get help.”

And so to the sounds, which kick off with ‘Take In The Night’, a squelchy synthesis of bobbling house beats and sharp, crisp percussion that gets tethered to earth with a big elastic bassline. There’s plenty of decay and dirt in the way the track evolves, and more than a hint of dystopian post- apocalyptic vibes to the haunted spoken word vocals.

Following a dub version, next up is ‘There You Are’, which is another otherworldly fusion of alien sounds, scuttling bacteria and eerie synths. All this great sound design is tied to a deep mid tempo groove and Dance Spirit really create a whole world for you to get lost in.

‘I Got You’ is a supple bit of late night tech house with a dark but libidinous vocal and widescreen synths that really sounds like a pained lullaby, before final track ‘Patterns’ drops a lighter, uplifting house groove with loose limbed drums, colourful melodies and plenty of subtle disco atmosphere.

This is a great EP with which to start the year for Superfreq, and one that confirms Dance Spirit are very much on the rise.

Over a period of seventeen years, Damian Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels has evolved into a world-renowned institution, garnering global audiences thanks to a consistent schedule of quality releases. Quintessential to the label’s success is the Spirits series, with each edition acting as a musical bastion to showcase the talents of both established and breakthrough artists alike. Now, after much anticipation, the world-renowned compilation will see the light of day once more in the form of Spirits IV, the fourth installment in Spirits’ ever-evolving saga. A mixed version of the album will also be included in the release, as a digital bonus track.

Ahead of its release, label-founder Damian Lazarus described the ethos behind the series: “The Spirits series is a very important platform for incredible new club music, often created by up and coming artists. The tracks are tried and tested over a twelve month
period by myself at parties and no stone is left unturned to ensure the absolute quality of every cut on the album. Deep, twisted
and beautiful music for the dancefloors of tomorrow.” 

That last sentence is epitomised in the compilation’s very beginning, as Alex Kennon and Pete Tong’s Apache leads with a stirring intensity, gently winding between spirit-healing vocals and resonant kick-hat combos. Echoe-founder Francesca Lombardo showcases her decade-long production experience in Freak On Sea, providing a dubby-leaning club cut that features progressive key changes throughout before Martin Badder and Pablo:Rita’s stunning collaboration, Phase, soon arrives in its place, rippling with a gentle lucidity thanks to a subtle four-four bassline and mesmeric singing tones. 

ANTS regular Andrea Oliva takes no prisoners on Rawman, serving up a near six-minute cut of pummeling kicks that build into a brooding synth-fuelled crescendo, whilst Russian-born up-and-comer Artur Nikolaev showcases his inherent artistic expression on Alma, creating an eleven-minute voyage into minimal techno’s deeper realm with stripped-back bass and hypnotic vocal samples. California’s Lubelski teams up with singer-songwriter Xkylar on Passion Fruits, a track that dives between slow-burning percussion and emotion-lead pads, paving the way for I See Colour, the latest collaboration from UK-native Luke Brancaccio and long-standing production partner Cypherpunx. Crosstown Rebels regular Made By Pete makes his Spirits debut next, presenting a tribal-laced mystic number in the form of Harar before Turkey’s leading exponent Ali Kuru teams up with Nublu Records founder Ilhan Ersahin on the jazz-dotted, Middle-Eastern inspired Eplos. Super Natural quickens the pace courtesy of enigmatic Barbados-born talent Murr, alongside Rosina’s ethereal vocal offerings that enchant as much as they delight, whilst veteran
German producer DJ Linus gives us the penultimate track on Vibes In Space. Indicative of the track’s progression, we are taken on a celestial journey through starry-eyed synths and soft whispering hats, leading neatly into the compilation’s closing saga in the form of Matador’s Vulture, a straight-talking dancefloor cut that showcases the Rukus-founder at his best.

BIOGRAPHY

Dimitri has been passionate about music from a very early age. 
His first releases date from more than 10 years ago and got played by big names like Carl Cox, Mark Broom, Luke Slater and many others. Since then, Dimitri evolved and built up his carreer as an experienced high quality dj and producer.

In 2003 came a first break-through when he released 'Panther ep' on the prestigious and artistically highly appreciated label Music Man. The ep sold well, received many positive reviews and delivered invitations to perform at major European parties like I Love Techno.

More releases followed and Dimitri continued working and producing in his studio on lots of different projects, always with lots of attention to the groove in his work. His productions are getting played worldwide by the biggest dj's who all appreciate this typical groove and the pro-pulsing arrangements as ideal ingredients to make the floor go wild.

In 2008, Dimitri released a new pearl, 'Run and hide'. The track was a first step in a more emotional direction of his productions. Soon after he made remixes for Marc Romboy and Chelonis R jones (Get Physical) on Systematic recording. As well as some very deep emotional remixes he also made more energetic remixes on MBelektronics, Girafe sauvage that Year.

More collaborations with other DJ's, artists and producers take place again in 2009. Dimitri has been working with Marc Romboy in the studio and together they remixed a track from Marc's latest Album, 'The Beat'. A few months after Dimitri released 'Pharaoh'. He produced not only the music, but also a video on this track. As he's also working on tv commercials and on different side-projects, these experiences reflect more and more in his cinematic way of arranging tracks. Due to these experiences, Dimitri now creates a musicvideo on most of his releases. As he finds this a much better and visual way to communicate with his fans. This exceptional visual aspect is very important for Dimitri. It will definitely be something he will work on even more in the future.
