In Melbourne the names of Jacob Malmo and Tom Evans are well known as solo artists. Together, they have carved a niche for themselves as The Journey, a name synonymous with sturdy progressive. It's a sound that's been forged with their combined 20 years plus of dance music experience - and one that’s gaining traction internationally.

Alongside multiple European tours, they have graced stages at iconic festivals like Rainbow Serpent, Pitch Music & Arts, Subsonic, and Strawberry Fields. Labels from Monaberry to Stil Vor Talent to Einmusika have signed their music and they've collaborated with artists including Bebetta, Tim Engelhardt, and Florian Kruse.

Their name is an apt one too: a Journey set can take exciting turns which never feels forced. On this almost two hour set they deliver on that sentiment with an adventurous sound that is minimal in aesthetic yet maximal in impact. With tracks and remixes from Sébastien Léger, UNKLE, Tim Engelhardt, Guy Gerber and more, this one deserves your full attention.

DEPTH. PERCEPTION Returns in 2025: Live Electronic Music from AJ Hackett’s SkyPark Bungy Jumping featuring DOPPEL LIVE.
 
We’ve been working towards this moment for a long time, and we’re proud to finally launch the next chapter of the DEPTH. PERCEPTION series — filmed in one of the most iconic locations in Australia.  
 
For this very special episode, we packed our bags and headed north to the tropical rainforest of Cairns, teaming up with the legendary crew at AJ Hackett’s SkyPark — home to Australia’s only bungy jumping site — to create something truly unique.  
 
On top of the tower, 164 feet above the canopy, we welcomed DOPPEL, one of Australia’s most respected festival artists, to deliver an exclusive live electronic music performance. Known for his deep, melodic, and progressive sounds, DOPPEL brings a set filled with unreleased material and timeless productions from his highly regarded discography.  
 
Since launching the PERCEPTION series, we’ve been waiting for the right time and place to showcase DOPPEL’s musical journey — and this was it. Elevated in every sense of the word.  
 
This episode blends the beauty of Far North Queensland's natural environment with the countries unique and distinctive music culture. It’s a celebration of underground electronic music, Australian landscapes, and the artists shaping the future of sound. 
 
A massive thank you to the incredible crew at SkyPark Cairns, especially Charlie, Jayde E and Jayde H, all the jump deck crew and everyone behind the scenes who made this collaboration possible.

“Cairns is one of the places that the Australian outdoor scene and its unique flavour of house & techno really originated as well as the hometown of so many of my friends and inspirations in the industry so it felt like a natural place for it all to come together for this recording. It’s also been a place that has welcomed me with open arms since the beginning of my career, so getting back up there to play tunes and showcase the incredible natural beauty of the place was really special. This is a collection of a few new bits I’ve been working on and playing around recently mixed in with a couple of classics. DOPPEL LIVE for DEPTH. PERCEPTION

The Story

This set is a conceptual mix designed to represent the story of Voyager 1. Voyager 1 is a NASA spacecraft launched in 1977 with the mission of exploring Jupiter and Saturn, before continuing on into interstellar space.

Flying at a speed of 17 km/s, Voyager 1 is the most distant human made object.

Having been traveling in space for nearly 50 years, it is surprising in fact that Voyager 1 remains operational at all. It continues to send back information and data from the three remaining scientific experiments. However, over the next 10 years, it is expected that Voyager’s plutonium generator will slowly start to power down, with the result that the remaining scientific experiments will come offline and all communication with Voyager 1 will be lost.

In recent times, from a position well beyond the heliosphere, Voyager 1 has begun sending back strange signals and data, that has baffled scientists and researchers. Not only has Voyager 1 suddenly changed direction, but the data packets have contained coherent patterns and geometries that could not have occurred by any known natural phenomena.

Voyager 1 was sent out by humanity to broadcast our existence, our art and music, and our hopes and dreams to the universe. But has it received a response?


The Music 

This 3 hour set features progressive trance and ambient music, along with various space-orientated samples that I have collected over the years. It has taken about two months work to create.

Pleasingly, I have been able to include some of the older tracks from my collection into the mix. Many of these have come from labels that are now defunct and no longer releasing. It has been satisfying to give some of these older tracks the play time they deserve.

I hope you enjoy the sounds and I invite you to come on a journey with me into deep space.
