We’re back! Welcome to this next instalment of the HER 他 Transmission Mix Series, our ongoing mix series showcasing amazing artists from around the world. For the 113th edition, we bring you a mix from Naarm/Melbourne-born, NYC-based DJ and vocalist, Rated M.

Rated M, AKA Monique Araujo approaches their work with an affinity for melodic sounds and left-of-field textures. Weaving between bass, techno, IDM, acid and everything in between, Rated M’s sets do away with boxes and take you through an unbinding plethora of late-night dance fuel. Her ever-shifting scope of sound is informed by her work as a booking agent, radio host on Skylab and Hope St Radio and a growing resume of vocal work for a number of producers and bands; performing at notable festivals such as Strawberry Fields and Hopkins Creek.   With extensive experience both behind the scenes and on the stage, Rated M is well and truly establishing herself as a key player in the local scene and beyond.

Creating this mix especially for the HER他  transmission series, it is an absolute honour to host them and hope that you all get a kick out of this mix.

“hoja de ruta” is an exercise to make visible the musical languages of the serial, deep and infinite digging practice. The first episode starts in 1994 in Japan, it was almost impossible to leave the island.

This show as a binnacle allows to register and diagram the process of research over time. Identifying patterns, trends and interconnection between actors as well as the possibility of retrospective analysis. Understanding these relationships help to solidify and restructure our knowledge, interests and obsessions, often perceived as isolated, floating or capricious, and internalize them as part of the same aesthetic search, guiding the next steps to future affinities.

The starting point is a random input, that awakes the curiosity and necessity to know more. A song, album or artist, that derivates into infinite multiple tabs, and each one enables a path; either linear, parallel or transversal to the last previous point. The end of the journey will trace a new sound universe, a personal and unrepeatable map that simulates the possibility of a closed circuit. The end doesn't exist, but this exercise facilitates the navigation...
