When I lived in New York several years ago, I shared a modest one-bedroom apartment on the Upper West Side with a roommate, a dog, and a very large Steinway grand piano. Early one morning (at 5 am, I think; good thing the apartment was soundproofed!) I sat down at that piano to record this nocturne, which I gave to my mother on her birthday.

Nocturne

Here's a brand new original composition to celebrate the holidays! It's a barcarole, a song traditionally sung by Venetian gondoliers. I wrote this for my fiancé Jesse Jackman to learn as he re-teaches himself how to play our piano... the one that you, our wonderful and supportive fans, recently helped us acquire (see http://gofundme.com/piano-for-dirk). The tune is perhaps especially appropriate for the season: entirely accidentally, the first five notes might suggest a familiar carol...

This is me playing. I recorded myself using my laptop and a single microphone, a process for which I need some more expertise and practice.  Hence, the recording isn't studio quality, but I'm still happy and grateful to be able to share this with you. I hope you enjoy it.
