Annually in celebration of the amazing artists on the label we always want to bring you the very best and showcase what those talents did for us.

2023 has been a landmark year for Dirtbox Recordings and this has always been due to the sheer amount of hard work by the producers behind the music.

We want to thankyou all for your support this year and as gratitude have put together a bunch of our favourites on the label to start 2024 with a bang.

Additionally you can also see the man like Shayper has dropped as mix of all tracks too for your listening pleasure.
From the start of the year with huge EPs from the likes of Noise Souls & ESKR right up until our summer months with the massive and outstanding Vibe City project this year has seen so many sounds and styles and vows to get even better for 2024

The Best Of 2023- Dirtbox Recordings- 2024

What a year 2022 was for Dirtbox Recordings. Its been a meteoric rise bringing in a whole host of new talent from across the world.

2023 is no different, In fact we intend to double our output for the year while still ever improving the vast quality of our music we put out.

Starting off the year we have invited a very good friend of ours hailing from Albuquerque, New Mexico. ESKR.

ESKR has been pushing the sound of Drum & Bass for over 20 years now, an incredible talent that has been known in recent times for his work on labels such as Boomslang, GTA, Control The Skies & more
recently a huge announcement that he has music forthcoming on the mighty Ram Records.

We are very pleased and honoured to have ESKR onboard with the label and this will be the first of many showings from the stateside native with us here on Dirtbox.

“Lets Do It”
We start the EP off with a bang and Lets Do this opens us up teasing us into what can only be expected to be a huge dancefloor banger about to drop.

Very euphoric and drum ridden in the intro with some nice splashes of that New Mexico studio airing throughout the first drop.

The vocal hits and the cyber sounds are plentiful driving us right through to a euphoric drop and doubling up on the driving bassline.

We are sure you`ll agree this is a stand out release already.

“Mechanisms”
The title track of the EP is another barn burner.

Those highly recognisable ESKR synths start us off but this time a twist on the first track as we hear a huge bassline echo throughout the intro and into the drop.

This one is techy as you like with full on balls to the wall robotic sounds processed to ring around your brain.

“Time At This Point”
We cap this release off with yet another flex of ESKR’s music muscle by showcasing yet another style of DNB within this huge 3 tracker.

If we had to compare this one to a track out there we can only say the similarities can be placed on the mantle of an early Calyx & Teebee release but as with all ESKR’s music it has his own unique stamp and sound that makes it super fresh and head down on the dancefloor with your fist flying.

When we said we were going to start off 2023 with a bang. We were not fucking about.

Start as you mean to go on as they say and how we start is big (wey hey) Dirtbox is back with its second release of 2023 already and another chapter written for the Cities EP series.

This time we venture across the pond and into 2 cities that are quite a contrast from each other, with 2 up and coming DNB producers looking to make huge waves in 2023.

“Composure - One For The Massive”
Representing the sound of sunny California right out of one of our most favourite places on the planet,San Diego. 

We introduce to you the one they call Composure.

Known to his friends as Marcelis, he is no newbie when it comes to laying down a huge release, as you`ll see from his already stellar back catalogue,

Composure has bangers already that have done the business on labels such as Audio Overload, Dubstomp 2 Bass & Divination

`One for the massive` is no exception as it showcases Composure's very own sound that has that UK roller feel throughout. It's a true Junglists upfront riddim.

A superb percussion and vocal lead intro following to a drop with the highly loved Heavy Horn lead drop and rap lead this one throughout meaning its a must for any junglist no matter where you are from.

“Avoider - System Leak”
We flip this release now on its head with something totally different by bringing to you the label's first true Tech-Step DnB track.

Avoider hails from the shores of Belfast and has been producing for a little while now and himself has a stack of back catalogue already for you to sink your teeth into.

This one has those Acid type leads filled in with a super techy bass ride. but still presents itself as a moody futuristic roller that would not sound out of place in a `Current Value` set.

One thing that we have been quite persistent on with Dirtbox Recordings, Is that we want to bring you fresh music constantly and only remix tracks when it is time, And the time IS NOW!

Only our 2nd deep dive into this territory and we are positive this one has been worth the wait.

We selected 2 tracks from one of our OG artists on the label the one and only Traced and his debut with us “The Time Is Now” to get the remix treatment from 2 of our favourite producers from over the years. `Xtronx` hailing from Paris, France. And `Just Breathe` Sunny, Surrey UK.

`Xtronx` has shined brightly in the French Neurofunk DNB scene over the years with his twisted collaboration of Drum & Bass and Metal sounds all topped off with a high octane sprinkling of scenic energy. 
The hard work he has put in has seen the fruits of his labour pay dividends by getting himself signed to `Chateau Bruyant Records` and seen him garner support from the legendary Level Zero and
Zardonic.

And from what he have recently learned this will be the final release under his current Xtronx name but new music on the horizon under a new moniker `Just Breathe` Hailing from Surrey, UK has followed a
much more different path though, building up his CV with not only Drum & Bass but House music too.

Make no mistake about it, Sam (to his friends) Lives and (Just) Breathe’s music, as if he is not putting together the next big rave banger. He is composing music for freelance work and writing for the likes of Movies and TV. Which has given Sam the the skills needed to bring an epic piece of art to any release he puts his hands to.

Xtronx’s take on this Dirtbox classic takes all the right elements you love from the original and like any great remix ads exactly what is needed to bring it to the present while also encompassing his stamp onto the release.

Epic movie-esque synths bring you into the familiar vocal before a sledgehammer is dropped to bring you huge drums to turn this from a funky Neuro number. Into an all out onslaught on the senses and
a chugging death metal beat before again bringing in the original sounds we all know and love from the original

Just Breathe strolls into his debut for the label with confidence in his production and takes on the Traced banger like he knew all along he would be remixing it.

This one has been going off in sets to the lucky few playing it since last summer and now its finally time to unleash it to the masses.

You want to tear out dancefloor drum & bass with the hint of  Neurofunk goodness? Double check.

Welcome to Dirtbox Recordings `Beskar`

Edinburgh based producer and now DJ, Ruben (Beskar) spent years perfecting his craft before 2021 when an onslaught of music was unleashed from his studio in Scotland.

Releases came thick and fast over last year on labels such as GZ Audio, Deep In The Jungle, Sub-Division & GTA before landing his feet with us here on Dirtbox Recordings.

A catalogue of works in such a short period of time has also started to get certain industry standard bearers take notice too, As Ram Records recently signed a forthcoming EP on their sub label Program for later this year.

You heard it here first.

This brings us to his debut on Dirtbox Recordings and his first solo output of the year. As we intend to release on May 4th this Star Wars inspired 2 tracker covers all bases in dance floor frenzied bangers with that added Disney Magic.

i/ Beskar- “Wilhelm Scream”

Movie buffs will instantly recognise the name of this one as a staple in 80s movies and of course made famous by “A New Hope” from the original Star Wars trilogy.

Wilhelm Scream starts with a haunting upper synth section surrounded by eerie Jedi like chanting-like sounds fill out the intro until we drop into our build of grinding bass and drums to lead us into the blood curdling Wilhelm Scream.

Heavy heavy pan sounds with an almost classic Barcode Records feel drop in taking you by surprise while taking you on the full landscape of Neuro flava’s only Beskar knows how to drop on us.

ii/ Beskar- “Mount Arakeirkos”
At the top of the mountain, a great clock is set into stone, built by the Arakein Monks almost two thousand standard years ago. According to legend, whoever watches each swing of its pendulum for a day will have the lifespan of the universe revealed before his eyes.

Whoever listens to this Drum & bass track by Beskar on Spotify for 3 days will have the lifespan of the universe in the palm of their hands.
We think its doable. And after hearing this onslaught of Drum & bass sonics. I am sure you will agree.

As we fly right into the middle of 2023, (Don't blink you'll miss it) We keep our promise of being one of the most forward thinking Drum and bass labels in the world, showcasing as much variety as possible from every corner of the planet.

Release 39 is no exception, as we travel up to the North of England where they put gravy on chips and they call fish cakes `Risoles”

That's right! We’re in Middlesbrough, where a 25 year old filth monger named `L3MMY DUBZ` can be found in his grotto of carnage, puking out some of the most deranged and exciting 170+bpm drum and bass the city has to offer.

Being involved in music since the tender age of 11 years old where he cut his teeth playing the drums in school.

It wasn’t until he hit the age of 14 that he discovered the joys of electronic music, and using a computer, he was able to produce by himself.

Starting out with deep dubstep and acid house, It wasn't long until he was experimenting with different types of hardware to establish his own sound and this is what got his Dubstep music recognised.

It wasn't until his first Drum & Bass release though on the label `Gully Beats` that Liam was able to get momentum behind his name which then lead to multiple regular gigs around the local area.

Releases flowed thick and fast with constant output on a flurry of labels. Most notably Cre8DNB ran by the legendary Dj Blackley.

Support mounted at a staggering rate as acts such as Pendulum, Dj Craze, Dj Guv and many more supported his music 2023 has now seen L3MMY DUBZ appear on some of the best labels most adapted to his sound and gigs across the world with regular stops now in Belgium and other European destinations.

Which leads us to today and what we are proud to call the “Dissonant Artillery” EP.

Let's go to war.

1/ L3MMY DUBZ- “Air Strike”

An intro Robocop would be proud of. This shit sounds like the first big scene of an action movie.

“INCOMING” warns the voice in the build. But for what? What could possibly be about to land.

Answer… Gutter. Sludge and more filth. 

A rapid fire air strike of sounds and gurning basslines driving this one into the murky drop and insane landing into the breakdown which turns and flips itself into a frenzy for the second drop which, let's face it, Leaves us needing more.

2/ L3MMY DUBZ- “Phased Out Reality”

This one needs to come with a bigger warning than the first. Maybe even hazardous material stickers on the front perhaps?

This intro is straight out of the Lunatic Asylum. Which in reality could have been a much better name for it. but as you would expect. You just aint. ready for this one.

Slappy bass, stops and starts, Phasing in and out of the consistent acid line rolling through each bar of the track with the title vocal bringing you right back before letting go and dropping into the eerie break. 

This ones a creeper

3/ L3MMY DUBZ -”Uncanny”

Uncanny takes on a much more direct approach with the beats this time. But with its ever present unquestionable grinded out filth. 
A sleek techno driven influence on this one and a throwback to some heavy Dubstep sounds of early 2010 lead us into a time stretched section that could only be recreated through a ketamine state of consciousness.

A really granny basher if we ever heard one.

For the past 2-3 years we have had our Dirtbox surveillance team out watching for any murmurs across the Drum & Bass scene. 

The technology used is so high tech, we were asked by Vin Diesel to borrow it for his Fast X movie.

After scouring every rave and Drum & bass archive we could, eventually a flashing beacon shone across our high tech screens.

We had found exactly what we were looking for A duo with a history of banging out pure dark rollers and party crashing classic Neurofunk.

That duo aptly named Rubio & Javi, otherwise known as the `Maniatics`

No stranger to releasing with only the best labels across our wonderful world of 170 bpm breaks and bass driven mayhem, the boys have produced some absolute classics over recent years on such labels as `High Resistance` `Neurofunk What Else?` and `Dub Elements Music` to name but a few 

Hailing from the beautiful country of Spain, these boys bring the noise and we are overjoyed to have them debut with us on Dirtbox.

“Maniatics- Better Time” 

A heavy and monstrous intro on this one. Peddle to the floor Neurofunk at its best.

An old, what can only be described as 1950s news report brings us to past the intro of this one into a relentless onslaught of drums and bass, No prisoners are taken throughout as we approach the breakdown, waving right back into action in no time. Theres no better time than during this beast of a tune.

“Maniatics- Fear of Falling”

We take a slightly different direction on this one, shooting rises throughout the intro and pads rolling into a crunchy roller of a track that uses all its space within the mixdown fluently to bring the heaviest sound possible, Don't fall over.

We are proud to present, easily the biggest project of the labels history, the biggest project of any label we have been involved in full stop.

The Vibe City project.

22 artists, 21 tracks, 4 singles and 2 huge compilation albums spanning release dates across 2 whole months. 

And we are finally here.

This project was put together to not only bring to light new artists we were so excited to try and release with but that we wanted to show the range of the label and destroy any miscommunication that it ran as 1 single Drum & Bass Sound.

Dirtbox covers the whole spectrum of our beautiful music genre we all love and we felt it was time to dedicate some time to the Liquid drum & bass followers and bring them something quite special, and
rather epic.

After months of set backs, re-dos and “fuck it” days, The project has finally come to life and has reached the time to get it released to the masses, after 6 months of planning through artists,
distributors, press and an amazing set of bespoke artwork.

As you`ll see, the artwork represents what we see as a summer spectacular in Drum & Bass. with that added hint of fun turning each artist into their own specific Miami Vibe character for the project.
A big thankyou to everyone in the background working on this monumental project. 

It truly is something to be proud of by everyone involved.

1/ “Kusha- Come Back To Me”

We kick off LP 1 with a huge one. This not only is the first single released as a sampler of the album (Out August 11th) but has recently been selected to appear on BBC Introducing in July of 2023.

Within days it was then also selected as BBC West Midlands track of the week and was played 5 days on the trot by Rakeem Omar on the BBC Breakfast show on West Midlands radio.

Phenomenal work and lots more in store with this release as its seriously blowing up for everyone who hears it.

The track is laden with a huge summer vibe piano and a lovely pair of wobs. Plus lets not forget that ever present festival friendly vocal the crowds are going to be going insane for We are so excited for this project and hope you are too.

This project was put together to not only bring to light new artists we were so excited to try and release with but that we wanted to show the range of the label and destroy any miscommunication that it ran as 1 single Drum & Bass Sound.

Dirtbox covers the whole spectrum of our beautiful music genre we all love and we felt it was time to dedicate some time to the Liquid drum & bass followers and bring them something quite special, and rather epic.

After months of set backs, re-dos and “fuck it” days, The project has finally come to life and has reached the time to get it released to the masses, after 6 months of planning through artists, distributors, press and an amazing set of bespoke artwork.

As you`ll see, the artwork represents what we see as a summer spectacular in Drum & Bass. with that added hint of fun turning each artist into their own specific Miami Vibe character for the project.

A big thankyou to everyone in the background working on this monumental project. It truly is something to be proud of by everyone involved.

We kick off our Autumn release schedule by taking no prisoners. We found a glitch in the Matrix. And through this glitch a portal, that once you play Neurofunk Drum & Bass down it, that 2 futuristic cyber soldiers appear,
brandishing heavy drum & bass artillery and plenty of Prawn cocktail crisps for supplies.

What was even more shocking was that the 2 soldiers were future selves of producers `Cyntax` and `The Fi5th` Cyntax handed me over a dusty USB stick. patted me on the shoulder, before nodding to The Fi5th before jumping back down the portal just before it closed.

It took me a while to decrypt the USB but once I had done this, and had gone through its contents. I knew the future of Drum & Bass was in my hands, quite literally. 

The contents... 2 tracks depicting what Neurofunk Drum & Bass would sound like 10 years from now. 

I decided to show a few people, but was warned harshly that people would just not be ready for this type of cyber connected, audio, neuro-lization of the senses.

So it is without further ado, you have been warned before listening to the latest Dirtbox release at your own peril. This will change the landscape as we know it. 

“Cyntax- Face Pound”

We throw on our 4 inch gloves on this one and get ready to smash your teeth down the back of the throat.

Heavy, violent Neurofunk. Catapulting into the first drop with a relentless grip on your nervous system.

Some may recognise this from multiple sets the past 12-15 months from the likes of Zombie Cats and Jade Its ever recognisable synth work flows tremendously across the track and audio programming is a pure 10/10 leaving you bloodied and battered from the Face Pound.

“Cyntax & The Fi5th- The Machines”

We finish off the release by bringing in extra reinforcements, The exciting sounds of The Fi5th bless this one with techno driving bass and epic synth stabs to disjoin your brain cells in every way possible.

A relentless juggernaut of Neuroscape sounds fill your ears and sends you to a far off place in your mind where you feel the robots have taken over, and this is their soundtrack.

Matt to his friends aka Scout 22 has a musical history that could take you around the sun and back with delves into dubstep, House, techno and of course drum and bass.

As no stranger to releasing music on high profile labels, Matt took upon the new moniker of Scout 22 just months before the world shut down for the pandemic,

This did not stop him though honing his craft through the time given he released a flurry of tracks across high profile labels such a Program (Ram sub label) Eatbrain, Dispatch and of course his own imprint, Shadownet.

This brings us to this monster of an EP and how fitting as the tracks are absolute beasts to boot. we give you “Great Beasts”

1/ Scout 22- “Atomic”

Kicking off the show we go balls to the wall and dip our toe into the neurosphere with Atomic Haunting bells and drums rush this one through our tech influenced intro. Reminiscent of classic
Raiden/Kemal before landing flat in its back with an atomic bomb vocal skit. and yet more drum builds to a deep dark scanty style neuro stepper.

A great beast in its own right and a fantastic open to a hefty EP

2/ Scout 22- “Great Beasts”

We land now in the title track of the EP and one thats gone  through not only multiple name changes but sounds too before we hit the halt and eject button where we are happy to unleash it to the world.

A deep and dark roller for this one taking a complete 180 while still giving thast gripping and signified Scout 22 sound.

An awesome rolling percussion set across eerie and haunting synths smothered with a glitched and heavily processed bassline give this heads down vibes for any dance floor.

3/ Scout 22- “Hold The Light”

Scout 22 shows some more of his awesome scope as a drum n bass producer taking yet another sound and style in the genre and making it his own.

This one leads more into the “Dutty of dutty rollers'' category and does everything you expect from this genre and more. Classic sounds used to cut through the darkness on this which is massively needed this one is for the dark room and strobe light
only crowd.

4/ Scout 22- “The Banished”

Leading the pack on this one, The Banished certainly stands head and shoulders out on this release with its originality and depth seeking missile of a bassline. 

Crunch, crunch, crunch, and no that's not cereal being slammed down your gullet at breakfast, Its the kick from this monster  crushing your eardrums.

5/ Scout 22- “The Heavy”
We close up the EP with a familiar sound. `The Heavy` gets its encore after making an exclusive appearance earlier this year on the Best of 2022 album and rightly so as Scout 22 closes out the year in style.

A crazy arrangement and a real bass face creator if there ever was one within a drum n bass track. 

A super eclectic sound leaning heavily into heavily distorted amens and a thundering collage of bass sounds. 

A behemoth thats had some huge support in recent months from the big boys in drum and bass.

Great Beasts EP

The year 2023 has firmly cemented itself in the annals of Drum & Bass as the year of the drums, and the bass. With events packed, boundaries pushed to their limits and the farthest corners of
soundscapes harnessed to their full potential, heavy is where it's at right now for the ravers.

And we at Dirtbox Recordings are pushing full throttle to the sounds that people love at the moment and the artists that are harnessing those wonderful blips, boops and wooooosh’s.
That leaves us thirsting for more. 

Dirtbox Recordings has torn its way up the ranks this year, with consistently spectacular releases from a wide gamut of full spectrum producers such a Kleu, Beskar, Cyntax, L3MMY DUBZ and more. and also brought us spectacular compilations such as the Vibe City project this summer. It has been so consistent and unique due to the hard working producers behind the music that help it carve its name in stone in the history books of the sound we know and love.

And this is just the start.

With the aforementioned string of success, this release marks the end of 2023 for us- and what better way to top off the year than 2 tracks from the outstanding producer, SHAYPER.

Having made a name for himself on the likes of Ram Records, Serial Killaz, GTA and more, these tracks are an excellently succinct summary of his own signature style. Known for his experimental mangling of soundscapes and sins against the laws of audio engineering, the uncompromising power of music without rules is on full display.

1/ Shayper “Ingrate VIP”
Heading things up here, The original version had instantly sent Harry Shottah into shock, this relick takes the split nature of the original to the next level.

This is actually Shayper’s very first VIP released - and was an experiment in just how far he could push a sound through processing. Supported by the likes of Ed Rush, Calyx & Teebee plus many more, the musicality of the intro draws the listener into a false sense of calm. And then the vocal sample hits - floating into a bass growl that has seen the likes of renowned clubs such as `Printworks and main stage `Boomtown` build to a frenzy.

The drop itself is an essay in energy shifts - staccato drums in counterpoint to the rolling roar and floating vocal before switching to a gigantic apocalyptic reese.

The variation throughout is testament to Shayper’s erratic methods, leaving the listener unable to predict where the track will proceed, and hungry for more. 

2/ Shayper- “Unchained”

Unchained, rolls. And hard. The drums are relentless, evoking that BREAK crispness, and providing the ideal rhythm for a huge and thick industrial environment, assonance reigning supreme and harmonics abused beyond recognition.

Shayper uses an unorthodox comb filter and multi-band compression technique to transform basic patches into a metallic edge throughout, each sound part of the factory in its own unique space and building to a final product that is as engrossing as it is unique.

For Dirtbox & Shayper, this is more than a statement of intent. This is more than a promise of things to come. Its a dance floor war cry, heralding the future of the sound.
