L'Orange Signs 3 Album Deal w/ Mello Music Group

The Deal:
After selling out the first three pressings of his vinyl in under 30 days, old soul producer L'Orange has signed a 3 album production deal with MMG for 2014 & 2015.  Slated to create a combination of projects from instrumental, to jazz singers, to alternative edged collaborations with emcees, L'Orange is looking to bring his distinct sound to Mello's audience, while continuing to push the boundaries of his musical explorations. 

The Sound:
Prohibition era soul samples combine with lingering smoke in the air on L'Orange productions.  Able to bring the crackle of vintage radio back in head nodding introspective journeys, L'Orange's ability lies in making complex productions seamless, allowing listeners to slide into another world. L'Orange's talent as a producer is his ability to develop full visions that create environments for artists and listeners alike. L'Orange is somewhere between early DJ Shadow, Madlib, Portishead, and Billie Holiday. 

The Instant Grat:
L'Orange recently recruited Mr. Lif & John Robinson for his contribution to the MMG compilation "Mandala Vol. 1, Polysonic Flows".  The track, titled "The Lost Nova", combines jazz rhythms, classic crackle, and intricate drum patterns for the raspy voiced Mr. Lif to tell his tale of verbal kumite (組手) and whirlwind zephyrs, while John Robinson takes listeners to the crystal city via his astro-physical-lyrical gift and extra-galactic tactics.

One of the underground's hardest-working young producers, Oddisee has built a thorough body of work with a steady stream of albums, mixtapes, collaborations, and instrumental projects. On Rock Creek Park, he breaks us off with 10 joints that are universally chill, loaded with jazz-drenched loops offering wispy flutes, funked-out bass lines, breezy guitar licks, soft horns, and earthy pianos. “Closed After Dark," "Beach Dr.," and the vibraphone-and-ride-cymbal-laced "Mattered Much" are standouts, though the ‘80s-influenced "Uptown Cabaret" and yU collabo "Still Doing It" are also impressive. Though many of the tracks are similar on the low-BPM head-nod tip, they all sound great and make an ideal soundtrack for just keeping it mellow.

After 2017’s 10 year anniversary tour of Below The Heavens and a b-sides/rarities release in In The Beginning many wondered whether or not Blu & Exile would ever reunite for a proper new release or if that year was as much a curtain call as it was a celebration. Putting those questions to rest, Dirty Science Records is proud to announce the True & Livin EP – as Blu & Exile’s undeniable chemistry is yet again put on display.

“True and Livin feels like a spiritual call to all that have honor and truth in their being. It sees how present day and beyond is always trying to calculate or monetize what comes from God or what comes from an artist’s spirit, but it also recognizes the truth that is inside of Blu and Exile's music and brags about it, even in a humble way somehow. This might be the first hip hop braggadocio song that invites us all to feel the same about themselves as long as they connect to the spirit and truth that is inside this song and inside us all.” Exile says about the EP’s title track.
