Merlin Ettore, a.k.a. Sorcery, makes a bold return to ara’s UTIL series, diving deep with seven twisted, precision-engineered sonic tools crafted from his unmistakable sonic DNA. Hypnotic synth lines melt into surreal, mind-warping textures, while intricate grooves pulse with eccentric hooks and vivid sonic storytelling. Blurring the lines between function and fantasy, these tracks are built for the dancefloor, radiating unpredictable intensity and pushing the boundaries of functionality in club music.

The UTIL series on ara (@aboutrecordingartists), an homage to the utility and raw beauty of functional dance music, challenges the conventions of what it means to release a practical dance record in today's landscape. This new edition is available digitally, as well as in a limited art release featuring a bespoke, hand-customized tool, extending the concept of functionality into the physical realm.

Amid a crossfire of colorless carbon copies of a long-forgotten idea, Jason Patrick’s latest effort makes a luminary statement. The Images of Light EP arrives by way of Bay Area electronic music label Peer. Each of its five tracks casts a purposeful shadow across the boundless void that is modern techno.

Psychedelic yet functional “Code Cracking” is the second track on the release. A metallic orator laments over its digital shackles on the high end while borderline Gregorian atmospheres seem to taunt it from below. Only in the final few bars do the two reconcile.

Only Peer could provide a home for an artistic statement like the Images of Light EP. Well into its third year, the imprint has eked out a niche in the refined yet experimental range of the electronic music spectrum. Contributions such as that of Jason Patrick project a bright future out ahead for Peer and its tight-knit community of supporters

Premiere: Jason Patrick "Code Cracking" - Peer

Dimi Angélis presents ANGLS 014 - four raw, spaced out, 909-driven tools in his characteristically direct and minimalistic style. Sparse, delicate sequences reverberate to provide a sense of space against classic drum patterns that build into a full workout.

The A1 opens with Third Eye - a slow, tense build with heavy low end and terse percussion, setting the tone. Endorama on the A2 is driven by a living bleep - distorted, repeating, but never quite the same.

Decka opens the B side with a remix of Intergalactic to provide a groove heavy, sequence-driven and lethal interpretation of Dimi’s sound. Chrysalis rounds off the package on the B2 with a rolling 101 bassline and descending bleep that hypnotizes and controls the listener.

Parabel is a leading Swedish collective that has featured Joel Mull, Dustin Zahn, Samuli Kemppi, and many others, which continues to expand and maintain its incredible quality.

One of the Parabel regulars and star artists, Patrick Siech returns with another EP for Sweden's Parabel label. Patrick is a producer that consistently comes up with captivating concepts and maintains an informed approach. His tracks have been released on Adam Beyer's Drumcode LTD vinyl series, as well as Richie Hawtin's M_nus.

For this DT:Premiere "Snakes Are Out" is a slick, dubby ride. Flickering percussion warms this beast up under delicate a bassline, while acid stabs create an energy under the main synth melody with a gritty atmosphere and haunting warehouse sound that blends throwback sounds into a modern era in consummate style.

For the Fifth release, "Filter Science", Fhase 87 delivers 5 original tracks to write the fifth lines of Sotor's story.

Born in 1987 in the North of France, François has been immersed in electronic music since a young age. His debut in Mix took place in 2001, and it was quite natural that he turned to composition in 2005.The year 2019 marks his emergence under the pseudonym "Fhase 87"

After a few months and numerous releases on different labels, he acquired the support of many DJs from the Techno scene such as Laurent Garnier, Dave Clarke, Ben Klock, Ellen Alien , Sam Paganini, Anetha, Dax.J or Robert Hood, to name but a few.
