"Delicately laid introduction, smooth fade-in, and amazingly executed swishes and swooshes, not only in the beginning but throughout the whole song, sets a strong foundation and holds up till the very end. Not to mention the clever use of synths and other gloomy electronic elements that not only casts a bright light to hint at a genre but also to set a certain mood. Despite being a new incarnation of disco, it has a distinct house flavor. As pretty much every dance song in the industry, it has this engaging and also charming synth-bass sequence, for some it might seem overused and can get annoying over time, but I always say this - "if it fits, it sits". Just as I am a fan of this particular bass practice in the songs, I am also a fan of sonar sounds and especially the combination of both - bass and sonar, if done right and this track delivers without any doubt, I'm sold. However, this isn't quite the selling point of this wonderful track. What got me hooked, was something else. I would say it was a blend of pretty much everything Tantra had to offer in this anthem of sorts, although a few elements stood out above the rest. The sophisticated use of wind instruments with the addition of vocal inclusion was spot on, the mix of these two just added a life-like experience, cultural mirroring phenomenon was so present, it made me so involved, I completely lost a track of time. Speaking about time, I usually avoid songs that are longer than 7 minutes or so, and when I saw the duration of this song, I was like - "Oh man, this is gonna be a drag". 
But fortunately, this James Rod edit surprised me in more ways than I can imagine. I strongly recommend this beautiful and so down-to-earth masterpiece, that not only provides a solid listening experience but is also technically dense and arranged in the most explicit way possible." - Quixotical Music psychoanalyst Vidas Stanynas.

Straight out of Edinburgh, Scotland, Craig Smith (fondly known as 6th Borough Project) is a colossal producer and DJ. Being a stalwart in the scene from a young age led him to make his deejaying debut in 1987 at Edinburgh's legendary club night, The Hooch. It was then that Craig Smith, the DJ, was born. 

Craig Smith's musical influences include boogie, jazz-funk, soul, old-school hip hop, and house. He is renowned for his non-compromising approach towards the music he loves. And relentlessly recognized for playing quality dance music, earning him countless headline international gigs and radio appearances. 

Craig’s recording work has been met with great critical acclaim. He has produced records for various labels such as EMI, Virgin, Hush Hush, In Demand, Maxi, Five20East, and Soul Heaven under his own name. This includes various guises such as Harden Soul Project, The Wayfarers, The Soul Renegades, The Shaw Height Assembly, and more popularly, 6th Borough Project alongside DJ/ Producer extraordinaire, The Revenge.

CSK - Peaky Blinder (Parissior Remix) [When Disco Goes Wrong]

For its forthcoming episode, Espacio Cielo presents “Acid Rhythm” by Italian stallion Francesco Mantovani aka Csk (SXDNS080). The seasoned DJ and producer has been on the road for quite some time – since 1991, to be more precise –, which means he has amassed a plethora of influences during his journey. In his works, for instance, it is notable the use of elements from his rave era combined with “Indie” attributes, probably absorbed during more recent times. The result is an interesting concoction with a retro but fresh aura that has been released on vital labels such as Ombra International, Emerald & Doreen, Dogs & Vultures, NEIN, Maleante, and Secret Fusion, just to name a few. 

For his debut on the Spanish powerhouse, Csk, who is also a label owner (Csk:Beat), invited two other fellow honchos for the remixes duties: Tronik Youth (SXDNS050) and Parissior (SXDNS206/FREEDL043), coincidently the bosses of the two imprints on which we released the first instalments of the Takeover series (https://sxdns.de/takeover), NEIN and Espacio Cielo.

Premiered here, Sir Neil Parnell’s interpretation of the title track takes the theme to a darker realm, inhabited by creepy six-legged creatures who love to dance 24/7, hence the necessity of having such a number of limbs. While the original delivers a more upbeat atmosphere, the remix boasts its beauty through a more introspective and acid aura. The main ingredients of the original are still there but now clad with a black cloak.

When Greco-German couple Local Suicide (@localsuicide) and New York City native Curses (@cursesforever) met in Berlin, the epicenter of electronic music, their artistic chemistry was immediately obvious. This chance meeting resulted in several fructuous collaborations, with the latest being ‘Magia’, a dark and mysterious four-track EP. This release represents the perfect opportunity for the artists to take the genre-bending blend of 80’s new wave, dark disco and ghostly vocals that have earned their previous collaborations unanimous praise to a whole new level. 

The EP comes after an impressively prolific year for the ever-busy Local Suicide powerhouse, following the release of their globally acclaimed debut album ‘Eros Anikate’ with collaborations with The Hidden Cameras, Lena Platonos, Theus Mago and Curses himself, as well as four remixes EPs featuring remixes by household names such as Adana Twins, Silicone Soul, Echonomist, Biesmans, Die Selektion and many more on top of a hectic touring schedule. 

The multi-talented artist and head of the Ombra International label Curses also recently released his darkly romantic second album ‘Incarnadine’ with features from Jennifer Touch and Terr, following an acclaimed first album on Jennifer Cardini's Dischi Autunno imprint. For this collaboration, he lends his distinctive sound signature that incorporates punk, Italo Disco, and EBM influences for a somber and nostalgic sound.

The EP’s title track ‘Magia’, immediately puts the listener under its spell with its dystopian atmosphere, as cold and distant voices echo eerily behind the relentless beat and unsettling looping synths, before layering up into an intense but also strangely hopeful soundscape.  

The beautifully complex and moody ‘It All Sounds The Same’ then follows with its ethereal and ghostly vocals bleeding through the urgent rhythm. The alliteration of the lyrics contributes to creating an otherworldly, almost uneasy feeling echoed by the lonely voices lamenting that everything ‘sounds the same’.  

The third track ‘Secret Friends’ opens up with cascading acid notes soon overtaken by the same driving beat as pulsing synths overlap each other in a frenzy while the vocals call out for a ‘secret friend’ with the seductive appeal of a mysterious, almost supernatural being. 

Far from alleviating the tension that has been building up throughout the EP, the closing track, ‘Walk With Me’, feels like a frenzied and Lynchian musical descent into madness, as insistent notes become more and more distorted until they’re swallowed by the bassline and electric notes while barely human voices whisper menacingly, gasping and crossing overhead. 

 In true Local Suicide and Curses fashion, this EP feels like a masterfully crafted plunge into an unfamiliar world that will leave you wanting more. Tune in for the release on February 24th, 2022 via Local Suicide’s own label Iptamenos Discos. (@iptamenosdiscos)
