Freeride Millenium's (@freeridemillenium) IMPACT series serves up a second volume of innovative electronic sounds, this time from Delicate Features (@delicate_features), On Bells, Venice Arms, Younger Than Me, Birds & Zamal. IMPACT extends a lockdown conversation that label boss Jorkes had with Lisa Jäge about how essential parties are for freedom of expression. During those times, it was brought home that club culture is vital for exchanging ideas and feelings, drives change and provokes debate about everything from gender identification to sexual liberation. As such, the pair set up discussions under titles such as 'Clubs as Places for Freedom and Emancipation’ at the WAF Galerie that Lisa co-curates. Planned new talks will coincide with the two further instalments of IMPACT, the first of which manifests musically with this superb six-track collection. Russian-Armenian collective Delicate Features open up and describe the music they make as "soundtracks to Rene Magritte's pictures, where day and night exist together." Their 'Without You' is a beautifully delicate and late-night track with spine-tingling vocals and icy chords. On Bells then feature d.r.a.b. on 'Alive', three minutes of heavenly vocals offset by dark bass and chords. There is a bitter-sweet melancholy to it that leaves a lasting impression. Venice Arms is a new side project from acclaimed dark disco artist Curses, and 'On Ur Mind' is a cavernous bass track with old school jungle influences and shimmering melodies that bring a state of euphoria. Berlin-based, Italy-born Younger Than Me is a rebel who brings old rave energy to new school club sounds on labels, including Duro and NEIN. His 'Miss Gilda' is a slow and heavy groove with grinding drums and coarse synths unfolding up top. Birds is East London's Katie Wilkinson, who fuses new wave 80s goth, techno, psychedelic and experimental on her shadowy and bleak yet alluring 'A Pointless Trip'. Last comes Germany based US emigree Zamal, a Dj who holds a residency at the label’s Romantica Club parties. Here he brings his broad musical taste to 'Inthevoid', a deep and dynamic techno track with cerebral synths. IMPACT Vol. 2 is another superb collection of avant-garde club sounds. Volume one is out now, the third is due in February 2022, and all instalments come with photography and artwork by Daniel Rajcsanyi.

Half of the duo Random Atlas and founder of the label ODD Pleasures; Ducati Flux AKA Max Ferrer is a chilean multi instrumentalist, producer, mixing engineer and DJ based in Berlin. 

From an early age, he has searched in music and sound design for a collision between rock and electronic music, playing in several bands, producing for different projects and soundtracks for movies. One of the most important traits at Quixotical Records is uniqueness, music that stands out. No exception is the latest release "Pilots Lounge" by Nickelson who perfectly fulfills the vision of how it should sound. Two original tracks "Negative Energy" and "Pilots Lounge" with two remixes by the founder of Cowbell Radio - Ed Mahon and head of In Dark We Trust - Berny, make this release an absolute banger for the dark disco dance floor.

Bold and brave attempt, tries to be more than the primary source. Intimidation and projection of self-reliance are the main means of propulsion. Not as exquisite as the original, very mature in a sense of presenting what it is. This is one of those situations, where the so-called copy of an original work, is attempting to step over the bounds and propose, that it's a higher-caliber, more polished piece of art. Distancing is a unique quality of this remix, and it can be a perfect governor, but so as the roots. I believe, both of those things were well balanced and the result is as pleasing as it can be.

This insightful poem written by Paul Watt opens the premiere of the intriguing contribution Zillas On Acid provided to this remarkable release: “Shelter Me – The Album”, coming soon on Paisley Dark, brought together twenty tracks made with love by twenty wonderful acts such as Steady State, Duncan Gray (SXDNS075), From Beyond, MAN2.0 (SXDNS081), Ivan De La Rouch & Rams, Silicodisco, besides the Zillas themselves, just to name a few, in order to raise funds to support the work made by The Shelter UK (https://www.shelter.org.uk/). 

The track we chose to premiere presents itself giving the impression it is a peak time 132-BPM banger, and it keeps hiding its true self until it reaches 02.45 minutes, that’s when you realize its actual pace: “Island Avenue” is a 106 BPM acid downtempo beauty devoted to making us not only dance but also reflect about housing justice and homelessness, issues that afflict millions of people around the world.

PREMIERE334 // Zillas On Acid - Island Avenue

For those not familiar with the history of dinosaurs, the giant reptiles were crazy for Balearic grooves. Those who managed to flee to outer space before the fateful mass extinction event claim that the big comet hit in the middle of a massive Jurassic luau. At that time, Ibiza-based duo Residentes Balearicos didn’t exist, but their music would certainly conquer the hearts and minds of the clade Dinosauria.

Their forthcoming “Mediterraneo” EP, soon available on the Spanish label Balearic Ensemble in digital and vinyl formats, is a “treasury of wonderful, eclectic dancing music of the highest Balearic order”, wrote Mikey Sibson in the PR text of the release that comes with not one, but two sunny & breezy interpretations of “Mojada” made with love by Das Komplex (SXDNS029): First, a remix; and second, a tropical and mojito-infused Pineapple Bonus Mix.

Premiered here, the remix brings the trippy and mesmerizing original to a more cosmic realm, kind of invoking the early days of Baldelli’s Astro-Funky/Afro-Freestyle with its (incredible amount of) percussive elements, vocal hooks, and distorted riffs. Pure bliss!
