The track “Stringhe Di Saturno”, taken from “Decisioni del 1961”, Disco Morato’s forthcoming installment on Maxima Culpa, will make you think our today’s premiere is about an Italian release. The thing is: It is not. Disco Morato (SXDNS147) is a Russian artist and Maxima Culpa is his own label, hence, a Russian imprint. His partner in crime, Gegen Mann (SXDNS220/ FREEDL031), is also Russian. That said, now you know why extreme and absolute darkness prevails in the entire 4-Italian-named-track EP.

Those familiar with Disco Morato’s career are already used to his sinister-as-hell Italo-themed pieces. Those who are listening to his work for the first time must have been tricked by the title of the track and were probably expecting some colourful and upbeat Italo Disco gem.

Mr. Morato’s sonority is not easy, fellas, it’s intricate, noisy, full of distortions, and devoted to casting blackness and obscurity into our hearts and minds. “Stringhe Di Saturno”, an Electro/EBM-infused masterpiece, is the perfect example to depict in a nutshell what he intends to deliver/trigger with his productions. 

If this is the kind of music that you are looking for, this is your guy!

Dystopian lucid dreaming… Is this reality? Is this a nightmare? Are we sharing the same dream or are we all part of yours? 

We have no answers. But we do have the perfect soundtrack as Curses’ label Ombra International continue to join the most powerful dots around the world. Somewhere between dark disco and post-punk, it’s the label’s first vinyl release in some time with three debuts and two highlights from the recent Ombra International 17 ‘Destiny’ V/A EP. All things connected, all things unclassifiable, sitting somewhere between Italo, indie, acid house, electro, synthwave and beyond. 

Turkish dynamo Günce Acı takes the lead as she continues to accelerate into the scene with dominance. Her Ombra debut ‘Another Round’ pushes us head first into an acid primordial soup; Trippy, relentless and full of surprises, it’s another sure-fire sign of her exciting rise. 

Elsewhere long-time supporters and good friends of the label Juan MacLean and Hardway Bros also both make their label debuts. The former lays down the deep pulsating sensation ‘Monika’, a sojourn that stretches out over almost 10 minutes of heady, hypnotic bliss. Meanwhile the latter sends us love from his HQ outer space with the industrial strength euphoria bulldozer ‘Early Nineties’. Ploughman beats and cathedral keys, this washes away the bitter aftertaste of lockdown with unfiltered, uncut feels. 

And if that’s not quite enough worldly Ombra substance to fuel your dystopian dreams, then look no further as previous digital-only tracks Skelesys – ‘The Scorpio Sting’ and Jorkes and NIKKNAME – ‘Citizen’ are both revisited on this pivotal release for the label. Timeless music never dates; here’s to another 20 Ombra escapades…

PREMIERE: Etane - For The Fire Is Dying [Critical Monday]

Berlin-East Frisian artist Heindenreich presents his new EP ‘Gitarren im Darkroom’. A carefully crafted sonic journey through the subconscious landscapes of a twisted mind. Loaded with metallic percussion and syncopated rhythms the EP is characterized by mysterious atmospheres, rolling bass lines and beefy beats. On top of these we find obscure vocals provided by Timo Heidenreich himself on ‘Gitarren im Darkroom’ and german-french artist ANGST vor GRETA on “Die Göttliche Bewegung” adding to the tracks phantasmagoric vibes. Dirty guitars and psychotic synth melodies are the main ingredients of this freaked-out recipe, presenting a certainly explosive catchy formula characteristically decorated with Heidenreich’s always present pinches of exotic flavors.
Rounding up the EP this time remixes come in the hands of Tel Aviv’s mighty producer Mishell, and Hanzo, head of Vienna based label Belly Dance Services and half of the duo Hanzo & Yaman.
Mishell delivers a bomb of a remix imprinting his spicy burning signature sound that brings any dancefloor to life .
Hanzo's Divine clouds remix transforms the original into a trip hop inspired psychedelic delirium that takes us through the hypnosis of snake charmer.

PREMIERE : Heidenreich - Die Göttliche Bewegung Feat. AngstvorGreta (Hanzo's Divine Clouds Remix)

A thick fog of cigarette smoke hung in the air, conjuring up shapes that flowed and danced before disappearing under the dimly lit lights. The bar was fairly empty bar the few regulars that frequented this spot night on night, and a weird hooded figure sat in the corner who'd barely looked up from his drink since entering. It was rare that outsiders found their way to this place, it was way off the beaten track, but this stranger had somehow infiltrated their space - how and why were a mystery.

Facets' Samo Records label are celebrating five years with their 10th release, No Evidence, which rallies some good friends of the label together. Local Suicide and Skelesys continue their collaboration with two original cuts inspired by old deceptive novels and a girl's disorientating journey at a party. These are  backed up by three remixes: a high octane refix from the label boss, an EBM twist from Intergalactic Gary and our pick, an acid-driven rave mix from Anatolian Weapons.

Something was on his tail and he didn't know what. There'd been no time to look back over his shoulder, the only focus was to keep up the pace and hope whatever it was didn't catch up with him. He had no idea what his destination was and the streets were becoming increasingly unfamiliar the further he ran. Gasping for breath he felt his body start to slow as his heart rate soared, he'd not though about what would happen when he'd run out of steam, but that time was closing in...

Eliezer loves a good collaboration. The Tel Aviv-based artist thrives when he joins forces with artists peddling a similar sound: the likes of Middle Sky Boom, Niv Ast and, more recently, Ackerman, under the guise of Deadly Weapons. Of course he releases solo too but for his next EP, a return to local label New Day Everyday, he's bringing more friends along for the ride - some old and some new. Affiliates Niv and Ackerman are back on board, joined by vocalists Vongold and Isadora and the minds behind Mexican label Duro, as well as NINAY who's the collaborator for our pick, a sludgy old school acid cut with a subtle Middle Eastern touch.

Breaky Pieces For Vague Times EP is the next installation on Lustpoderosa (@lustpoderosa). Elaborated with lots of love and dedication by well known and talented producer and Moscow resident Kolomensky (@kolomensky). Four tracks full of confidence for a better future. Amen break induced rhythm-fields, precisely woven atmospheres made of lush textures and discreet and wisely placed trance artefacts. Kolomensky`s upcoming EP is a powerful nutrition bullet for musical psychonauts in a cosmic kitchen full of time and space. The dance floor is the universe.

The Schrödinger’s Box was finally open, and the cat is ALIVE, biting and kicking! The promising Glasgow-based label welcomes back the genre re-defining chameleons of Hard Ton (SXDNS176) with their own characteristic brand of style-splitting Acid House Disco aka Sylvester on Acid. Working together since 2008, DJ/producer Wawashi and Heavy Metal singer Max can’t get enough of delivering high-quality material. Their next instalment, “Bigger Is Better”, a double EP album, has all the depravity and drama you would expect from these disruptors. Its five original cuts are a true showcase of the duo’s capabilities and inventiveness.

The track we were solicited to premiere is a proper New Age Rave mantra. With its steepling synth stabs, 303 barbs, frenzied percussive elements, and short but powerful lyrics, “Transcend Your Body” is another true peak-time masterpiece by the beloved act and can be safely considered the most attractive piece of the release.

Treat Street Records is a Sydney based label focusing on releasing new music from friends and family around the world.
The label is run by two friends Jerome Mouron (alias Paul Jextra/Caravan) who has done releases with the likes of Planet Trip, Ca$hminus and Ken Oath. The other half of the label is run by Myles du Chateau (alias Dim City) who has done releases with Jolly Jams, Kitsune, Modular, Future Classic, Treat Street Records & Moontown records.
'Absolute Unity' is the new Dance Music project from Ryan Grieve, a co-founder of Hole In The Sky Records. Ryan has produced as one half of bands Canyons, Fred Cherry and Heart People, among others, with releases on labels DFA Records, Modular Recordings, Universal Music, Warner Music, Hole in the Sky & I'm A Cliché.
Returning from the haze of major record label obscurity and confusion, Absolute Unity is a return to roots with a focus on simple, raw sounds aimed for DJs to play to dance floors.
