Andy Graham, aka Sei A, has never been shy of delivering stunningly detailed, emotive releases, but 'Mirrors' - taken from his forthcoming LP 'Love & Chaos' - is his most potent single to date. A master of utilising reverb, gain and placement to create sonic worlds, Graham's canvas is vast but filled with cossetting melodies and almost-there vocals, solely anchored with deconstructed, skittering percussion. In 1994, UK ambient pioneers O Yuki Conjugate recorded their landmark Equator album. To mark the 30th anniversary of this musical milestone, many of the same personnel – Roger Horberry (co-founder of O Yuki Conjugate), Dan Mudford (ex-Sons of Silence and co-creator of the Shaun of the Dead soundtrack), Joe Lamb (ex-Sons of Silence) and Malcolm McGeorge – came together to make New Meridian, reflecting the range of influences they’ve picked up over the intervening years.   

Generously described as “almost like normal music”, the eight tracks of New Meridian feature instrumentation ranging from classic analogue to actual wooden logs. The result takes you on a rain-drenched, open-top ride from Electronica Avenue to the drone caverns of Uranus, with various Fourth World ambi-dub diversions along the way. File under: duress.

Carving a unique, shimmerving path with their harp and theremin blended with electronic soundscapes, Masal (meaning "story" in Turkish) create soundscapes of psychedelic introspection. Despite their seemingly different backgrounds, a chance meeting led to improvised albums and live shows which caught the attention of Neu!'s Michael Rother. Their debut album "Charity Shop" and recent "Tidal Love Numbers" explore themes of self-discovery through a blend of Eastern influences, classical harp, electronic weirdness, and basslines with their new album Galloping Cats picking up where they left off.

Casinoboy - Honesty

Solpara’s debut album, Melancholy Sabotage, marks his return to Other People. While it was recorded over Covid lockdowns, Jaar had been talking about wanting to back a Solpara full-length since he put out Swing. The album came to life while Solpara was living alone in a Brooklyn loft, collecting unemployment checks and viewing ample free time as the artist residency he’d dreamed of; he’d previously been forced to make music in odd windows between numerous jobs and the unmerciful pace of city life. Free from obligations, he would wake up early to take Arabic lessons, read Tracey Thorn’s autobiography, and skateboard the deserted streets, then come home and design sounds until he had a track that felt like it needed to be released. While this easy going lifestyle was peaceful in many ways, Solpara found more complex inspiration in the emotion that stemmed from participation in Black Lives Matter protests and the 2020 Beirut Port explosion which rocked all of his extended family members in Lebanon.

Melancholy Sabotage explores the theme of sabotaging melancholy. Echoing sounds from the post-punk, trip-hop, and ambient genres, it is about sabotaging the cycle of melancholy and looking at this process without ignoring the sources that put it into motion. It may be compared to a rattling breaking free from retention, reaching states of dreamy euphoria and transcendence while simultaneously acknowledging the sources of retention, viewed from above. “The melancholy is going and going. It’s both beautiful and painful and you can get engulfed by it, but you can sabotage it,” he muses on the album’s title.

Next up is a wicked all vinyl mix from two Edinburgh based DJ's - Donald Dust and The Nightlark. Two stalwarts of the Northern scene who have helped pushed forward leftfield electronic music in the Scottish capital and beyond.

This mix demonstrated an enormous depth of understanding as the pair weave between an eclectic assortment of House, EBM, Italo and beyond to craft a hypnotic tape which will sound as wild in the headphones as it would in the basement of a Scottish dive bar on a Friday night. We're thinking dimly lit, red lights, a lot of smoke.

The pair are fierce record collectors and the process behind delivering this mix was long and complicated. The result was worth the wait as it demonstrates a masterclass in genre fluidity and dancefloor prowess.
