When we tried to think of positive aspects the lockdowns might entail, one of the first things that made us smile from within was imagining what our friends Zozo and Emin have been up to during their isolation in Turkey. Animal whisperers, street food connoisseurs, music festival spiritual guides are just a few of the many epithets we could give these two — they never cease to surprise us. That is why we’ve asked them to give us an update of how and what they’re doing by giving us a sample from their joint record collection from their home in Istanbul.

The idea with this mix is to sequence a tracklist which captures my own mental model of Isozaki’s building. The spiraling of the Boerdijk–Coxeter helix tower represented as the cross changing of English handbell ringing, or the mist of the rock fountain represented as the air of breath - but also to mix contemporary music with work from around the time of the building’s construction to capture the way in which architectural monuments - which always bears the historical legacy of the time in which it was designed and constructed - are continually juxtaposed with contemporary physical reality as we continue to observe, reassess and inhabit them as an objects in time.

"When I was asked to do a podcast for the Good Fruit series I was pleased to get an opportunity to share some sounds that captured my ear over the last couple of years. Sharing music with other people was a regular thing for me in the past but has become rather rare these days, and I recently felt the urge to reconnect on that level. As I see music as a celebration of life, this sound journey represents exactly that. Whether it's joyful rhythms or sorrowful melodies, they all have one thing in common: they make me feel alive. You'll hear sounds from the four corners of the earth, both grounding and uplifting. Tribal, rootsy, profound and raw. During the process, I tried to grasp what makes me like a particular piece of music and not another, and it became clear that, no matter what style, it is integrity which makes it reach deep into my soul.
