Talked to you on the phone the other day—WhatsApp voice call—and I noticed the dissecting and unsettling silence fading in between each spoken word, like someone holding the breath or stopping time. Or a tap closed between each filling of a glass. It was a clean, cleansed, silence—one purified by the dullness of calculation, of automation, of regulation and optimisation.
I remember the feeling of talking with friends via landline connection—it felt like a direct channel opened up between our ears and tongues, an airiness of circulation. I could hear the other person breathing and the slight static noise of electricity hardwiring us. Now I don't hear the other person's breath anymore—the algorithmic sound detection for controlling the threshold of the microphone transmission seems to not register breath as a signal deemed necessary for communication.

As an experimental platform for artists, Edited Arts also
coordinates events, films and radio shows.

Static is a collection of 6 tracks recorded during the fall and winter season of 2018/19. Ambient yet experimental. Patient and introspective - the soundtrack for slowing down.

Giving it’s name to the release, track 5 titled Static is a collaboration with PAN affiliate Kareem Lotfy. Additionally, the EP includes a remix from Moscow based Art Crime.

Etrusca 3D is a new band that merges two current Audio and visual artists from the 21st Century, Francesco Cavaliere and Spencer Clark.

The album is the first to be released by Spencer Clark's label Pacific City Discs, as a subsidiary and in collaboration with Discrepant.

Etrusca 3D is the juxtaposition of two imagineers friendship, as Francesco says, 'because I am Etruscan and you (Spencer) are 3D." There is a piece of the future of Etruscan civilization contained within this disc. It is with Spencer's remote viewing of a past and future creative culture and Francesco's birthright that we find a true insinuation of civilizations world body.

We decided to invoke various Etruscan deities or spirits by sampling Francesco's voice uttering their name. We put them inside the Emax 2 3D machine and we began to play these deities and thus incorporate a fresh and ancient music language to present the 21st Century Etruscan experience. In the meantime, these musical stories turned into Francesco's imaginary storytelling style to further present a narrated record of the intuited activities of Etruscan Gods...’’

Vecu è la sola e unica abile a trasferire le parole della creazione dei mondi più alti e più profondi. Curva la realtà negli sguardi degli animali. Il sottosuolo non è scuro non è sabbia bagnata che goccia creando torri. Il sotto suolo è un terreno d’oro coperto da trasparenti cristallini involucri. Delle energie forano il pensiero e le radici strette lo conservano nel corso dei secoli. Non pensate di sbarazzarvi di lei. Vecu vive dietro gli occhi di colui che non sa di esserlo. Sta già cambiando il fuoco col suo sguardo. Nessun vampirismo. Solo un sorriso che non fa ridere ma che annuisce allo sguardo di Dio. Oltre le ciglia del tempo è la personificazione del destino celeste.

There is grief, exultation and relief inherent in belonging to community. Re Munus reflects on the tone of deep gravity with which the re munisation of the de munised is unravelling. The generations which dismantled their social contract, achieved immunity, revoked solidarity.

Severe circumstances foment collectivity, suffering and empathy, interrupting the ethereal dream of social weightlessness. Re Munus sketches sensations and observations during a time of reorientation, rediscovery of lived sensibility on a relational scale. An encounter with sensations which we had said defined us—the tangibility of which we had forgotten, believed to be confined to the past. There is tension between the physical withdrawal and lived intensity which permeates these works.

Personal drift. There is a multitude of presences guiding you through this record as a listener, not without their own doubts as to where they are leading you. A murky social space. Time-compressed club experiences within layered acoustic dimensions; consolidated, captured and played back into the same space. I am sitting in several rooms simultaneously. Death metal screams in an Animal Crossing world modelled on our own.

The choral rush of ‘Million Dollar Cowboy’ from Lugh’s Hélico EP (2018) re-appears again in ‘Braises’ and ‘Free Fall’, deeper and re-figured. Sometimes the record also haunts itself—each element heard having been through a process so long and many-staged, it’s as though it has already lived.

These compositions hold within them a flawed attempt to communicate on every level. The desire of language as expressed through music—towards shared meaning. Paradoxically voiced and voiceless, it denies textual, verbal description, instead crying out through the cracks in forming its own liquid tongue. Clone choirs simultaneously rehearse in an open space below. A slow walk through this spectacle. It’s an anguished record as much as it is at times tranquil. The movement between voices detached and embodied becomes playful—often warping them far beyond recognisability.

Beautiful artefacts. Stomach churns in the face of a burnt-out horizon. Cantering & sneezing. Air is driven into the corners and creases of a gold-plated, reverberant structure. The neural network claps to keep itself in time. Gutter Synthesis organ lament; tears of the duffing oscillators. There are moments on this release when tensely divergent fragments are barely held together. The prominent human voice mixing with the heavily re-sampled voice—it’s an incredible lift. Superimposed night and day. Sonic creatures living within the material, sharing time and space. Tenderness and together-ness.

Nerve @lo4nerve is a Hong Kong based multidisciplinary artist whose practice mines the boundaries between contemporary music, sound art, multimedia theatre and underground subcultures. With a background in classical composition and 90s rave culture, he explores the extreme sound experience by mixing electroacoustic, beat, bass, fx and samples into a new form of free improvisation performance.

Fight or flight are the options during a global pandemic. Music can be relief, a space to forget, or it can be a mirror, a space to confront. Nerve gives us permission to dive in headlong. Told through the vernacular of bass and noise, this mix embodies 2020 in sound and sentiment. The opposite of escape. A pummeling reflection of the present and a foretelling of an unforeseen chaotic future. In this dystopian world, tracks dissolve into swift and relentless cuts, and just when it begins to feel overwhelming, you’re hit even harder with industrial cacophony and distant basement dance floor reverberations. The release is nothing short of cathartic; sometimes pain feels good too.
