BalQeis, an Egyptian live looping artist/Oud player, that has been playing Oud for more than 15 years, classically trained in traditional oriental music and has evolved over the years to craft her own unique sound.

Being a multi-instrumentalist, BalQeis takes control of every element of her music, as she steps onto the stage, she projects a wide spectrum of sound described as a fusion between Electronic, Alternative, Rock, and Oriental Music which comes from a vast musical knowledge, a multi-sided artistic background, and wide imagination, BalQeis delivers a captivating performance as a one-woman show with her live looping project “BalQeis Live”.

Denna DJ-mix-samling är skapad som soundtrack till boken "från Diskofeber till Rejvhysteri i den svenska dansmusikhistorien," av Anna Gavanas på Stockholmia Förlag februari 2020. Med hjälp av hittills okänt material utforskar antropologen Anna Gavanas här ett stycke historia som präglat generationer i Sverige: 1970-talets disko- och 1990-talets rejvkultur. Elektronisk dansmusik är idag en självklar och okontroversiell del av Sveriges kulturliv. Historien är dock präglad av konflikt och maktförhandlingar, feber och hysteri.

Lär känna pionjärerna, miljöerna och människorna som formade den elektroniska dansmusikkultur vi har idag. Med hjälp av intervjuer och unika arkiv analyserar författaren striderna kring disco och rejv och de skiften i kulturlivet och medieklimatet de vittnar om. Generationers röster från förflutna dansgolv blir till en berättelse om Sverige.


Anna Gavanas är socialantropolog och författare. Hon har tidigare bl a gett ut de uppmärksammade böckerna ’’DJ-liv: historien om hur diskjockeyn erövrade Stockholm’’ (med Anna Öström, Gidlunds Förlag, 2016) och ’’Pensionärsplaneten: spaniensvenskar och pensionsmigration i en globaliserad värld’’ (Makadam Förlag, 2016). Gavanas är också verksam som DJ, arrangör och musikproducent under namnet Gavana samt med skivbolaget Meerkat Recordings.

The famed temples of Angkor Wat are only the start of things to explore in Cambodia. Phnom-Penh-based DJ couple Sao Sopheak (Cambodia) and Nick E. Meta (Germany) are the masterminds behind one of South-East-Asia’s most acclaimed independent arts spaces. Since 2007, their Cambodian-German Cultural Center, “Meta House”, has been contributing actively to the renaissance of Cambodian arts and culture after almost 30 years of civil war. 

Nowadays, the country’s capital, Phnom Penh, is one of the region’s most liberal party destinations, offering a heady dusk-till-dawn nightlife featuring an eclectic and vibrant music scene. The Meta House crew is at the forefront of the region’s emerging electronica movement, mixing Berlin underground spirit with Asian spirituality. 

Nick – who co-founded the Berlin label “D’Vision Netcom” in the early 1990s – has been mixing music and producing his own tracks for the last 35 years. His recent projects include the live ambient trance performance trio “Friends Electrick” as well as the spoken word project “Airstrip” with UK 'poet noir' John Gartland. Nick’s partner Sopheak is currently Cambodia’s only female techno DJ. Behind the desks, they both create a seamless dance-floor energy that never stops.
