Diskotopia concludes the label’s tenth anniversary year with an incredible record from one of their flagship groups, Greeen Linez. Also marking ten years since their first release under the moniker, Chris Greenberg and Matt Lyne return with the double album Secrets of Dawn—their most ambitious and expansive work to date.

In contrast to their darker, more downbeat last album Strange Energy, Secrets of Dawn is the result of a concerted effort to rediscover the joy, beauty, and melody that have been in such short supply worldwide in the two years since their 2019 release.

The creative process behind the album reflected the enforced solitude and introspection at the time of its inception. Consequently, Greeen Linez revisit every musical style and mood they have explored throughout their decade of releases, spanning from atmospheric ambient expansions to euphoric dancefloor anthems.

The influence of Larry Heard, Tangerine Dream, John Beltran, and Mark Isham is once again very evident. So too is the relationship with Japan, Lyne’s home for over 16 years. But rather than stepping back into the realms of City Pop— a genre that the pair helped introduce to the world with their 2012 album Things That Fade— here we can hear elements of Ryuichi Sakamoto, Toshifumi Hinata, and Hiroki Ishiguro, but fused with the sonic vocabulary of such artists as The Durutti Column, Cocteau Twins, Art of Noise, and The Cure.

Elsewhere, some of the dance numbers follow in the footsteps of Jam & Spoon, CJ Bolland, Étienne de Crécy, José Padilla, Cassius, Earth Nation, and even Gerald Donald under his Dopplereffekt and Japanese Telecom outfits.

At almost 90 minutes in length, Secrets of Dawn is a magnum opus built for deep listening and immersion. The album is both a kaleidoscopic journey inward and an open-hearted invitation to reconnect with the world.

Apron Records has been instrumental in shaping the current landscape of contemporary electronic music coming out of the U.K. since 2014. After almost a decade of pushing their unique vision has made the Apron Records imprint one of the most in-demand labels in most independent record stores. Now more than 45 releases deep in their journey, Apron Records have teamed up with Patta Soundsystem to work on their first various artists release and to celebrate this monumental milestone, both camps have collaborated to create a clothing capsule to accompany this release. After working with the artist formerly known as Funkineven on ‘The Wave’ late last year, it was only right to showcase the diverse talents behind this movement.

Sharing a drawing board with Patta for the first time with Apron Records, together they have created a Trucker Cap and a Graphic T-Shirt that echo the racing theme of the whole project. Better Together is the slogan that runs throughout the entire collaboration, stressing how unity makes us stronger as individuals. Artwork for the record has been provided by Amsterdam based artist Jim Klok. His unique Acetone printing technique has now been immortalised on this LP, juxtaposing vintage cars with checkered racing flags to create a dynamic cover that would be right at home in a picture frame as well as a record bin.

System Olympia’s ‘Passi Mai’ is a beautiful 80’s inspired driving riddim layered with her own vocals that wouldn’t be out of place in an arcade or a sticky nightclub floor. Followed up by ‘Leven’ by Brassfoot, we get a wobbler from the NTS regular. Layed with Jamaican vocal samples and audacious arpeggiated bleeps, Leven is a soulful approach to techno tropes that have been bouncing around Brassfoot’s head. Shamos’ 737363 is a cryptic masterpiece. With dreamy pads as a backdrop for shuffling drum beats, euphoric sweeps and dynamically designed synthesis, this closes off the themes explored in the first half of the record.

Side B kicks off with J M S Khosah’s contribution to the record titled ‘Lessons’ which is a dancefloor filler, adorned with glamorous percussion, vocal samples and syncopated stabs ontop of a driving 4x4 kick pattern. Kicking things into 6th gear is a club-ready production from London's most soulful selector Shy One. Groovy basslines and a 2-step riddim make ‘Candy Floss’ an ode to the grimey and the glittery sides of London nightlife. This project champions one of the people that have been pivotal in the success of the label, Steven Julien whose track E46 is an emotional journey through his synth-laden East London studio. Bookending the project are two compositions from Compton’s-own AshTreJinkins. Showcasing his abilities to approach the project from both an ambient and a pure beat-making perspective in order to hold the whole project together.

Hell Yeah's lovingly curated Buena Onda series is back with a new edition that focuses on Adriatic Beats & Beyond. It has been assembled by label head Marco Gallerani and features four exclusive new tunes that reflect his summer residences at a cosy beach bar on Italy's Eastern and Adriatic coast.

Marco moved back to his hometown of Ferrara after the pandemic and began spending more time at the local seaside, the famous Lidi Ferraresi. It's there, at Lido di Spina, that a friend runs Kai Beach Bar, a small spot where, every Thursday throughout August for the last three years, he has soundtracked afternoons and sunsets under the Buena Onda banner, more than a decade after the party first started in Berlin.

"The beat has become less Balearic, more Adriatic," he explains of the sounds that can be heard up and down the coastline. "There’s no sunset culture yet, but they like a groove for aperitivo. This selection reflects the music I propose there, a kinda sunrise to sunset trip."

The 13-track selection includes four exclusives: the first is Blende's 'Amor,' which is forthcoming on the label. Johan Blende is a Swedish producer, songwriter and DJ who weaves together modern dance with retro sounds of the 70s and 80s and debuts on the label this summer with his Recess EP. 'Amor' is a bubbly groove with a New Age wash and lo-fi pads full of charm.

Hell Yeah regular and Italian magic man Walter Del Vecchio aka Quiroga also offers a new Baia Club Ambient Version of 'French Kiss' which has a lazy acid line worming its way through dubby kicks and tabla drums, and his dreamy electro soother 'Cala Ventosa' also features. Secret Soul Society, aka South Wales's Cal Gibson, also tests a new EP with his 'Orange Surprise' blending off-balance rhythmic shuffles with starry cosmic melodies. The final exclusive is from Balearic Gabba Sound System, who flip The Vendetta Suite aka the legendary Gary Irwin's 'Della Notte' into a quietly epic cinematic closer with icy analogue beats and a warped bassline for dubbed out late night escape. His 'Island Hill Microdot' also offers some warped cosmic ambient house introspection.

Elsewhere, Michele Mininni features twice - once with Gallo's Tropical Hinterhof Remix of the suspensory ambient lushness pop 'Carousel of Tears' and once with the original percussive pressure and hip-house fusion of 'Urban Voodoo' from his Pop Archetypes LP. Buena Onda veteran Feel Fly comes through with an Estatico Danzante Remix of Pedro Bertho's 'Tornei' feat Mariana Gehring and takes us to the stars on twinkling keys, dusty breakbeats and steamy vocals that glow as warm as a setting sun.

Add in further groovy gems such as Bonnie and Klein's synth and vibes laced 'Horizon Avenue,' dreamy, breaks-driven downtempo brilliance from pub wave innovator Dawn Again, hints of Ibiza cool from Willie Graff's remix of Aura Safari & Jimi Tenor and some upbeat synth-laced house from label stalwart Luminodisco and you have a faultless collection of grooves for grown up dance floors.
