As Amniote Editions proudly celebrates its 5th anniversary, the label is excited to unveil 'HoxV-2: Spekki Webu x Heliobolus - Phylogenetic Analysis,' the debut LP from long-time friend and collaborator, @spekkiwebu, also known as Heliobolus. This 11-track project, shaped by a full year of meticulous studio experimentation, represents a bold exploration of sound, merging experimental techno with cinematic elements. “This is a journey of intertwined storylines, akin to parallel universes that connect and diverge.” Spekki explains.

At the heart of Phylogenetic Analysis lies the narrative of Heliobolus, a story of continuous evolution across different lifetimes, where Spekki Webu finds himself trapped in a cycle of spiritual searching and physical transformation. Drawing inspiration from science fiction, the artist crafts a dual narrative between tracks that oscillates between the spiritual and the surreal. Spekki tells us: ”The track ‘White Room’ is inspired by an intense psychedelic experience where his perception was wiped out for the endurance of a lifecycle, while ‘Forest Hunter’ delves into a recurring nightmare of being pursued in the woods. Later in life, I revisited these woods in a psilocybin session.” This gives just a peek into the kafkaesque corridors of Spekkis’s mind, leaving lingering questions for the listener for the rest of the release.

This LP not only embodies Spekki's artistic evolution in between alter egos - but also reflects the essence of Amniote Editions' five-year journey of curating forward-thinking electronic music. With influences ranging from 90s Dutch Goa to tribal rhythms, Spekki infuses a groove and funkiness throughout the album, balancing dance floor energy with cinematic sound design. 'HoxV-2: Spekki Webu x Heliobolus - Phylogenetic Analysis' is a testament to both the artist’s and the label's commitment to pushing boundaries, making this release a landmark moment in their shared history.

Fuelled by an endless fascination with sound in all its forms, OTON has spent over a decade navigating the vast spectrum of electronic music through producing, mixing, mastering, and DJing — with live performance at the heart of his explorations in all sorts of mental and hypnotic techno.In 2021, he launched Alliance Club, initially as a platform to share his own music with a growing audience. This landmark release marked a decisive and profound shift in his artistic direction, signaling a new chapter in his sonic evolution. This autumn, OTON is set to return with its highly anticipated sequel, New Forms of Silence 2. This new offering delves even deeper into the introspective and resonant side of techno, embracing dubbier elements while demonstrating a clear reverence for the genre's classic roots. Yet, OTON continuously pushes the boundaries of sound design, infusing each track with his unmistakable signature, all released under the Alliance Club banner.

CRUDE Premiere: Vauna - Restless

On his latest excursion into concept-driven deep techno, Eddie Merced joins the dots between his East Coast US machine soul sound and his Puerto Rican roots, all while continuing to look skywards in search of hidden mysteries.

Merced's sound holds true to the fundamentals of techno as a modernist soul music, steeped in beguiling harmonies that communicate on an emotional level even as the lead track lands with physical, peak-time intention. It's a fitting tribute to Atabey, the ancestral mother-spirit of the Taino people across the Antilles archipelago (including Puerto Rico) in the time before Europeans arrived.

'LZ-1' maintains the forthright impact of Merced's most floor-focused production traits, locking into cyclical hooks while unfolding a narrative steadily over the run time. Elsewhere the body-popping electro funk of Underground Resistance exerts a tangible influence over the visionary sweep of 'UAPs Gone Mad' and 'Interplanetary'; two distinct tracks speaking the same language.

Given the rich layers of melodic synthesis that course through Merced's tracks, it's natural to hear him putting the drum machines to one side and casting off into beatless ambient techno on the impossibly lush 'Signals From Enceladus'. The track nods to the Puerto Rico-based Arecibo telescope, and its task in the 1970s of sending signals into space in search of a response from extra-terrestrials.

The quest continues to this day in the work of Merced and all other synth dreamers, creating evocative space music charged with that same sense of wonder and the enduring question of whether we've already received a response.
