By the end, he’s tossing the phrase back with a grin in the Publix parking lot. Fast, funny, and pure Southern sarcasm set to twangy punk.

I came down south from a northern town,
With my hair too long and my windows down.
Asked a man at church what he thought of my car,
He smiled real sweet and said, “Bless your heart.”

That’s how they say, “Boy, you don’t know.”
Sounds like kindness, sweet as pie,
But it’s just a southern way to say “nice try.”

Told ‘em up north I was workin’ freelance,
They laughed and said, “Son, you don’t stand a chance.”
Spoke my mind on politics, thought I was smart,
They patted my back and said, “Bless your heart.”
