The "Summer Soulstice" is a big festival of Soul/Funk/Disco/Soulful House and relative genres that takes place in London every year, and which purpose is to raise money to help fight cancer. For this 7th edition, I've created a special rework in memories of Andy Weekes, along with committee member Jester Groove and the rest of the "Summer Soulstice" Crew.

Story :
"In 2006 a dear friend of ours & one of Barnet’s favourite sons, died of cancer in the USA where he had lived for many years. To pay our tribute to a much missed friend & to keep his memory alive, the family & a group of his nearest & dearest, decided to hold a special annual get-together for local friends & an extended family of fellow soul enthusiasts @ a venue close to his heart…"

DJ BK And Twin Sun - The Disco Waltons Sunday Service (NDC Radio 24.04.22)

This week's guest is Sam Shelley, a DJ who immerses himself in Funk, Soul and Disco. I am a regular listener to his own show on NDC Radio, and I was blown away by his extensive repertoire of original tracks from the 70s, mixed in effortlessly with a few modern disco edits. His extensive BIO is below, and it's a pleasure to welcome him to the show

** BIO **
Sam Shelley is London based Music Producer & DJ focusing mainly on the Disco, Funk & Soul genres. He has loved music from a very young age and his first musical interaction in life was with the dance genre, as a child growing up he was influenced by his Mum’s Disco collection. She’s was a Disco girl back in its late 70s heyday going to many of the great London night spots and even once going to the famous Studio 54. His late Dad passed down his love for the Funk & Jazz-funk side of things, his Dads collection included people like Donald Byrd and Curtis Mayfield.

He loves playing tracks from the Disco, Boogie, Funk, Jazz-funk, Brit-funk & Soul genres, his favourite artists include people like Chic, (featuring Nile Rodgers a very big hero of his and a real inspiration who has influenced a lot of the sounds you hear in his productions today) Earth, Wind & Fire and Donald Byrd.

Sam started playing around with production in 2011 and had his first official release 5 years later in 2016. Within those 5 years he also got into DJing and has his first gig in 2015 at Proud Camden. Since then he has played many venues across London including Cafe 1001, Lightbox, The Scotch Of St James, Egg and the Ministry Of Sound.

Last year he got to play in Amsterdam with his NDC Radio family for the amazing Amsterdam Dance Event which is an electronic music conference and festival held annually in mid-October. 

in December 2020 he joined the amazing team at NDC Radio and now hosts his own weekly show called Groove Nation every Sunday.
