Here was something wrong with his latest creation. It sat very still, staring with tense eyes at him in silence as he leant over the altar of his work. His instruments glinted with the reflected gold of the candle flames that lit his space, the cradle of life where he replanted embers of consciousness in the infertile grounds of the dead. Up until now they had stirred into reality with the confused motion of limbs, eyes rolling and hands moving desperately along the cracks of the floor and the edges of the doorway, seeking fervently a way out. But this one was different – her eyes had snapped sharply open, she sat upright, and since that moment her stillness tainted the room with a quiet malice. Her eyes followed him as he moved, inspecting his work beyond an arm’s length. The black pits of her pupils like twin gravity wells, cold tendrils reaching out and compelling him closer as though death’s hand brushed the back of his neck and whispered timeless truths with a whisper into his ear. He drew back, looking down at the dark blood on his hands as her eyes flicked over them. Reaching behind him, he grasped his chair, sitting down slowly, his legs trembling slightly before buckling beneath his weight. The oppression of her stare bore down upon him. 

The relentless shuffle of MINDSCAPE's deadly REANIMATOR LP continues, as the ultimate power of Chapter II is unleashed on the EATBRAIN listener base. Focusfire is the brainchild of Ignescent label owner Deen Pride and the talent of musician Fascad, a producer who’s already littered several imprints with his refined sounds, including Ram’s sisterlabel Program. However now they bring together their incredible skills individually as a collective, adding their music to the massive platform of Deen Pride’s Ignescent. The Russian imprint has proven its weight time and time again, continuing to do so with the four track EP which has been offered up by Focusfire. With Deen’s high-energy DJ sets helping to inject the live presence needed into the project, as well as Fascad’s expert craftmanship in the studio, they prove with their forthcoming EP that they’re a force to be reckoned with. The ‘Resolution’ EP will stand as a monumental part of their catalogue and it signals a blossoming career together as a duo.

The first track you’re introduced to from the EP is its title, ‘Resolution’. It’s exactly what you’d expect from a Focusfire record, unforgiving, meticulously built and with the type of slicing drums which drill through speaker stacks at any drum & bass night. ‘Akoazm’ follows next and its tightly fashioned grooves jump in and out of the mix, helped given more presence by its weighty kicks and blurts of atmospherics.

‘Spacelab’ is a fully immersive part of the track list, pulling you into the fray before it pushes you through its first breakdown, padded out by its melodic relays. As the horns kick in and you’re taken into a climatic drop, Focusfire step on the gas. ‘Basic Shapes’ finishes the collection and its just as progressive as its counterparts, with rolling bass notes adding a jagged edge to the cut as it kicks you into each frenzied patch of breaks.

Focusfire show you what they’re about with this next release and in doing so, they give you an insight into what they have in store for 2020. With Ignescent as a home, they’re sure to take tech-drum & bass to the next level.
