BRYCE HELM returns to Genot Centre with his new album CLOSE YOU'RE EYES WHY SMOKEING WEED (GEN053), a maximalist collection of 34 fever dreams. The relation between these tracks reveal something like a soulseek state of mind, with an impressive horizontal as well as vertical information density, constantly jumping between perplexing, dry counterpoints to full spectrum, jacked bangers. But the whole thing is tied together by frantic, jittery atmosphere, by a blown out, squelching, even concrète approach. In their conciseness, these tracks are almost like snippets, ringtones, dj tools, but these are not miniatures: each of them implies a world, some kind of zone, the elaboration of their implied horizon left as trivial exercise to the listener.

Zombelle x Myrrhkaba "Tropicult" Album: A Sea Punk Gem Revisited

In the annals of #Seapunk lore, few albums shine as brightly as Zombelle's "Tropicult." Originally unleashed upon the digital waves in 2011, this ethereal masterpiece is finally getting the re-release and remaster treatment it deserves. With its journey from micro-label aspirations to digital-only obscurity, "Tropicult" has become a cult classic among aficionados of the genre.

Co-creator of the #Seapunk movement, Zombelle played an instrumental role in shaping the genre's aesthetic and sonic landscape. Emerging as the FIRST seapunk release of the entire genre, "Tropicult" holds a seminal position in the realm of experimental music. Coming out of the afterspell of the Witchhouse movement (coined by Pictureplane's Travis Egedy), Zombelle's visionary creation rode the seapunk wave well into 2014, leaving an indelible mark before crashing down, never to be heard from again. Despite its ephemeral existence, the album's impact reverberated across both the United States and Canada, with a singular tour on American soil and live performances in the Great White North.

Crafted in the creative crucibles of Los Angeles, California, and Topeka, Kansas, "Tropicult" bears the imprint of collaborative genius. Helmed by the visionary Zombelle and engineered by the enigmatic Myrrhkaba, the album's sonic landscape is as diverse as the locales from which it was birthed.

For this long-awaited re-release, Myrrhkaba returns to the helm, breathing new life into each track with meticulous remastering. With a keen ear for preserving the album's original essence while enhancing its sonic fidelity, Myrrhkaba ensures that "Tropicult" remains a timeless testament to the #Seapunk ethos.

tracks 1 - 5 were ran through my bastl microgranny 2 (special thanks to michael v, seller on reverb.com, for the sample bank) + earthquaker dispatch master reverb/delay pedal and further mixed on ableton live to get a good stereo sound :).

track 6 is an extreeeeeeemly digitally processed song originally made for electric guitar. included in the noise is some signature heavy reverbed vocals + a looped thunderstorm field recording.

The sixth entry in the DISPLAYSOLO series finds @my-head composing a sprawling four part epic entitled “Catharsis”. A collection of vignettes that sees moody ambient murmurs surround and envelop shambling rhythms and piercing synth melodies while distant vocal hymns harmonize with mechanical clicks. “Catharsis” is an audio assemblage expressing the primordial with the aesthetics of the new familiar. A series of brief reprieves in tense times.
