And they’re back. Birmingham based party starters Shadow City Records return with a four track EP, bursting with dancefloor goodness. At the controls for SHDW 005 it’s Salary Boy - hustling hard by day, making tunes to get you hustling harder by night.

‘There Is A Way’ opens with a soiree of shuffling percussion, which drives it forward throughout. The tune holds its nerve and refuses to cash in, constantly bubbling and building as layer upon layer unfolds almost to breaking point. An exhilarating statement of intent. Never looking back.

Side A comes to a close with ‘Tricks’. It confidently boasts a heavy hitting kick drum, set to shake speakers and alter heartbeats. A relentlessly positive guitar sample and buoyant bassline set the mood of a lively cut, which builds to a pay-off that brims with shimmering brass and crisp hats. A sunshine filled stormer, sure to get even the most cynical city worker moving.

Drums, drums, drums.  As ‘Mistakes’ begins we’re swept away by Salary Boy’s effortless command of groove, before a booming bassline snatches back at our attention. “Everyone makes mistakes” is the refrain from the vocal sample. I’d usually agree but our hard hustling, hi-hat wielding hero hasn’t put a foot wrong so far.

An evocative piano loop anchors ‘Cry’, a tune made to define the early hours. Equally adept at touching the heart, as it is at moving the feet. Endings are important, and this is as strong as they come.

On Sticky Swedish duo Dagfest bring a breezy, summer festival-ready release infused with plenty of vintage synths over the course of five original tracks.

Opening proceedings is Spacer Love Samba, a slow, upbeat slice of italo disco with a raw bassline and fuzzy synth loops that makes for a great mood warmer. Imagination blends elements of synth pop and italo into a lush and laid back slice. Also on the romantic side, Baby, I don’t know delivers low key euphoria in the form of a zig zagging bassline with low slung vocals. Punchy kicks announce Night Thoughts, a floor filler that captivates with its upbeat energy and elastic bassline. Equally compelling, but on a slower note, Chasing rounds off the release with a touch of melancholy.

DC Promo Tracks #602: The Squirrel Effect "Rien Que De l'Eau  (The Squirrel Effect Edit)"

“This unbroken love, managed to survive, even when all hope seemed gone, somehow it stayed alive.”

Leo Mas and Sally Rodgers are as relevant today as they were at the beginning of the house music revolution. The former continues a legacy that began in Ibiza, where he DJ’d the most fabled nights at Amnesia and pioneered the Balearic sound, and today produces wonderful grooves together with another great Italian DJ, his longtime partner, Fabrice. The latter has cruised the fertile fields of electronic music since the late eighties, at the forefront of idiosyncratic genre offshoots like acid jazz and cosmic Balearic as a producer, DJ and singer, along with musical partner Steve, as the U.K. duo A Man Called Adam.

‘This Unspoken Love’ offers a mellow euphoria, skywards pads and pulsating bass that coaxes a sense of something eternal. Rodgers sings of unspoken love surviving and recalls that faded dream of utopia, imagined on analog synthesizers and broadcasted to pulsating crowds, all plugged into the same feeling of immortal bliss.

“The north star still shines, the dream lives on. Sometimes you just have to close your eyes to sense it.”

This release features the vocal radio edit of the track. An extended and dub version will be released in August.

PREMIERE : Leo Mas & Fabrice feat. Sally Rodgers - The Unspoken Love

Norway's next big things Lakeshouse have called on friends to give their two EPs the re-rub treatment and what a job they've done.

The band themselves have taken Firkanta downtown to deep house with their trademark sparking production, musicality and dynamics. It's held down with a 4/4 and nagging bass but filled with all kinds of disco wonderfulness from the original that is aimed full square at future thinking dance floors.

Jarle Bråthen takes a break from the Telemark Express project to flex his muscles on NRK. Stuttered drums and driving bass hold the original parts together for a lovely krautrock balearic take on the original.

RSS Disco serve up a massive filtered dirty bass that brings some serious funk. Added acid and the Norwegian vocals make this a deep late night head mangler. 

Finally Reggie Got Beats takes Ambulanse by the scruff of the neck and gives it a good old shake. Bumping house with a large helping of disco magic bring the NYC swing for late night good times.
