Taking up the controller for the next in our SMUT mix series is the incredibly talented Kuscheln. The moniker of Matt Mockford, Kuscheln is the second Canadian to appear on our series and is a multi-talented producer (check out his track ‘Speed Bump’ as featured on Kaptcha’s compilation Xenolith 1.0 release) and DJ who runs Klub Ferret, a Toronto based queer party.  He has made his name playing places such as Phile, Por Detroit and Bossa Nova Civic Club and recently played at Promise Cherry Beach and has even appeared on our friends Ema’s show for Dublin Digital Radio. Matt’s extensive range of influences is reflected in this mix.  Here fusing UK techno, bass and breakbeat with some edits added in for good measure (particularly the iconic Donna Lewis closing), we couldn’t be more delighted to share this ethereal hypnotic mix with you. Big love to Kuscheln for putting this together.

"I imagine that 20 years ago, a society of hard-working, secretive machines buried twenty miles below the surface of Proxima B began receiving the wispy artifacts of our Terran speech that had escaped our radio stations, sung like a gospel through the vacuum of deep space, to be intercepted by their above-ground sensors. I wonder if that would have been the first time they ever heard music and thought to take a break and dance. I wonder if they bump their own subsurface rhythms. If they grind their servos on each other, if they sniff their own electromagic powders. Perhaps this mix is their response to my question."

“For this mix I kinda wanted to make something that felt reminiscent of how I open and close out dj sets at a club. The tracks that have been speaking to me the most all like in a 90-110 BPM range which I think kinda can be played at any point of the night. I appreciate drake’s patience on this since I made like 2 ambient mixes and 3 super-fast techno mixes before just saying “fuck it” and doing a single take here that felt a bit more reminiscent of what I actually prefer to hear when im in a club. Hopefully this mix takes you to a place that is not too far from here 😊”

Awash in bewitching textures, voices and fuzz tones, our latest Sunday Mix finds French-Irish artist and sound designer Zoë Mc Pherson distilling an increasingly distinct versatility over a charged mix built from tracks from the likes of Space Afrika, Rey Sapienz, Nesa Azadikhah and Grand River.

In their own words, the recording draws inspiration from a whole host of locations including Iran, New York, Poland, Uganda and Bristol, with plenty more music from "all over the world; from people I appreciate a lot and that I find touching, in depth and perfect for introvert moments."
