For her first mix released in over a decade, Amber Gillen (immersive installation artist and visual artistic director for Interdimensional Transmissions) takes us on a journey through time—and ultimately ourselves. It’s also Samhain: the end of October where the boundary between the past, present, and future feels thin and energy flows thick. It reminds us of Keith Moxey’s suggestion that time might not “run at the same speed and density” in all places. Either way (or any way), it’s the right time to have Gillen take us through her sonic past across ambient, rock, and funk.

We’ve paired Gillen’s mix with a piece from Berlin-based, Sulaymaniyah-born Hiwa K. Hiwa, while originally a realist painter, now crafts sculptures, videos, and sounds that  “aim [not] for an accurate depiction of a reality that could be, but reinvent and transform the reality at hand.” Work such as Blind as the Mother Tongue unspool the debris of capitalism to better see how social structures like borders and time zones are reinforced. “The work I do is very much about reminding how many fingerprints we have onto each other,” Hiwa mentions, “[and] how much we are embedded into each other.”

"For this one I definitely leaned into a little more of a dark and menacing vibe than I often do. I'll blame the bleakness that can come with New York winter and, well, the current state of the world in general certainly doesnt help. Despite all that, I really had fun playing with the idea of being amongst dying machines, lost in space for eternity, and having one's consciousness ripped to shreds by some kind of anomaly. That, and the idea that it could alternatively all be in your mind cause you've been lost for too long..."

Brooklyn-based DJ threehz brings a deep and dreamy perspective to an often-aggressive techno landscape, with a strong focus on textured, spiraling, playful psychedelia to appeal to both mind and body. Spent many long nights pulling all the records I wanted to play to serve as a document of this lil show so far--faves and influences, deep eyes-closed dancefloor cuts, smoked out rave jams, euphoric downtempo drum trax... the sounds I've had the pleasure to showcase as well as a way to feel how those disparate sounds have evolved into something sprawling + broad yet (I hope) cohesive + holistic, representing the power of psychedelic electronic music alongside more frenetic, 'club-ready' tracks.
