Adam 2 | Basscoast 2022, The Cabin

Alias: Adam 2 (@adamtwo)

Location: Vancouver BC, Canada

Influences: 
The music I play is usually influenced by the seasons; happier playful sounds in warmer months, intense moody sounds in cooler months.  This mix is a particularly moody mix of atmospheric drum and bass, EBM and techno taking inspiration from artists such as Patrick Russell, Forest Drive West and Pessimist.  I also find myself using a lot of atmospheric noise to create abstract movie-like soundtracks taking inspiration from Rrose and Paleman; this particular movie soundtrack is a fictitious bleak sci-fi horror.  I also usually try to avoid playing music with 4x4 kick patterns.  

Affiliations/Residencies/Projects: 
My main affiliation/project right now is PPRZ Records, a Vancouver BC based record label and podcast series I run with DJ Hockey.  I also curated for 'Afrofuturism is NOW' (a label to showcase some of my favourite POC artists) and I currently sit on the board of directors for Active Passive who host 'experimental/ambient' shows/festivals on Galiano Island, BC.  I don't have any specific club residencies, but I play most regularly at Dolly, one of my favourite venues in Vancouver.

Adam 2’s Jungle Dreams EP shows the Vancouver-based DJ, producer, and PPRZ label boss bringing new maturity and complexity to their latest sonic exploration.

Leading with the hypnotic arpeggios of “Jungle Dreams,” Adam 2 takes listeners through heady realms of peak party dancefloors on “Stasis” to the bristling, industrial-escapist fantasy of “Forbidden Kingdom” before finally dropping listeners off in the cerebral, ketamine-fueled gloom of “3 Quarters.” Clay Wilson wraps up the EP with a reimagined up-tempo remix of “Stasis,” showcasing the versatility and fluidity of Adam 2’s original production.

On their debut release, Adam 2’s Jungle Dreams EP is a testament to the late nights we’ll never remember, and the early mornings we’ll never forget.

Arrival EP is the latest sonic exploration from Vancouver based artist Adam 2, featuring a variety of forbidden mutant techno/bass hybrid tracks written in Vancouver, Galiano Island and Pender Island, exploring a theoretical future (or current reality) where artificial intelligence controls humankind.

Opening with the modular screams and disjointed percussion of 'Nightmare', listeners are transported to the deconstructed atmospheric drum and bass horrors of the title track 'Arrival'. The audience is given a brief respite with 'Robot Step Parents', a playful noise hip-hop/bass concoction featuring vocals from Adam 2.

Zander's remix of 'Nightmare' transforms the EP opener into a sludgy energetic dance-floor weapon and Ritaffeins remix of the same track closes out the release with their signature driving 4x4 atmospheric techno.

For Adam 2, electronic music has always provided an opportunity for self-discovery, creative exploration, and personal liberation. Since 2016, the Vancouver-based producer and DJ has worn multiple hats in the city’s growing scene, fulfilling the roles of promoter, music curator, and co-founder of Techno label PPRZ.  2020 saw the release of featured mixes on Honcho, Techno Hour of Power, and the creation of Afrofuturism is Now – a mix series amplifying the music of Black artists. In 2022/23 Adam 2 maintained their stride sharing the bill with Carlos Souffront, Shanti Celeste, and Objekt, had high profile performances at Basscoast and Domesicle in Montreal and releases on 3024, Amphiboly Records, Model Future and PPRZ.  As Adam 2’s career gains momentum, they continue to build their reputation by transfixing audiences with evocative, experimental techno that intersects dynamic physicality and playful cerebralism.

As a label based in North America, we have witnessed the continued complicity of our governments in the genocide against innocent Palestinian lives. We believe this compilation is a collection of music that was produced and chosen with heart, contemplation, and shared frustration.

The organization we have chosen to donate proceeds of the compilation is The Palestine Children's Relief Fund. They offer free medical care to injured and ill children in Palestine, including Gaza, who lack local access to care within the existing healthcare system.
