Number 40 in the Theory Therapy series is a mossy bed of iridescent electronics and ambient textures by Berlin-based DJ Akimat. We absolutely love the Aussie-born selector’s taste in music and the way they craft mixes around specific themes. This one was inspired by “intricate, gentle nature in the forests of Bavaria” and features a bunch of recent favourites from Concave Reflection, dj hexscrew and Ultrafog. There’s also a forthcoming one from our label hidden in there too.

“For this mix, I imagined a transmission from a world not unlike our own, in which a sentient species grapples with accelerating cultural and technological change. The slow, gradual rhythms of geologic time buried beneath the frenetic pulse of a technologized surface.

Within this vast evolving system, an individual awakes to look out at the structures criss-crossing the horizon – buildings that extend deep underground with people emerging to the surface like ants, distant waters pooled into huge humming tanks, mines carved into the side of a mountain, and lights illuminating a sky that never gets dark. They feel a momentary sense of unease before their attention is drawn to a torrent of information flooding their consciousness from transmitters embedded in their brain. They’ve been asleep too long and it’s time to get going.”

在首次亮相的五年內，Privacy 已製作了多首地下熱門曲目，但他始終在不斷調整自己的創作範式。近其於 Klasse Wrecks 和 Klakson 等廠牌發行的作品，更是探索了不同的音樂領域：其中有些深邃的曲調，讓水波般的和弦將你帶入海洋般的深淵；其中亦有輕快的曲目，將酸性音能量與靜謐的未來感完美融合。

Privacy by name, privacy by nature: this artist has no need to reveal anything about themselves because their music is more than enough to keep your mind and feet occupied. It’s electro but with subtle differences in the way the corrugated drums make you jack, the way the metallic hits ring in your ears and the way the synths burrow deep into your psyche.

Privacy has produced a number of underground hits and dance floor bombs in the five years since debuting, but is constantly tweaking the template. More recent releases on the likes of Klasse Wrecks and Klakson have drifted off into different realms: there have been deeper cuts where watery chords sink you into an oceanic abyss, and lithe mutant bangers where acid energy and serene futurism rub up against each other. In amongst all this, there have been sludgy slow motion soundscapes and distorted EBM interpretations on Valcrond Video which prove this artist can say whatever they want with equally compelling results.

Always uncompromising and authentic, Privacy’s music reveals more with each listen. It works on the dance floor but packs in such detail that closer listening also rewards your attention. It’s the same in the DJ booth, when eclectic sets twist and turn through music with meaning and purpose. We might not know much about Privacy, then, but we know that they never fail to entertain in subtly different and enjoyably deceiving ways. And really, what else matters?
