The DJ mix in my opinion seems to have long been forgotten the once forefront of the music and club scene DJs mixes was the go to format where you would unearth a world of new music and hours of non stop bangers. 

As times and technology change especially with the dominance of social media the humble mixtape has almost become a thing of the past where it’s seems to be all now focused on reels , stories , 15sec drop videos , Tik Tok , playlists , streaming etc which for me takes away the very essence of what it’s all about the MUSIC and just the music. Even live streams turn a audio experience into a visual one and I think there something quite magical about listening to just the music and taking it back to basics .

For the first in our new mix series, we happily welcome one of our most recent guests! @djulz (bass culture records) back after a incredible set at the bar last month for Compound, for a sublime hour of hip-shaking groovers than span across a multitude of genres with a groove and flow that is completely Rockin!

Now there are DJs, and then there are DJ’s DJ’s. Julien Veniel, artist name D’Julz, is undoubtedly one of the latter – a true craftsman behind the decks whose true strongest skill is his ability to go beyond mere genres and trends.

Through a career spanning two and half decades, D’Julz has practically done it all. He began spinning in Paris, often playing his home city’s much-talked about early 90’s raves and legendary clubs, all before moving to New–York in 1993 to further hone his skills and cement his reputation as a true taste-maker in his field. The rest, as they say, is history.

Despite finding himself in high demand in every corner of the globe, from the States to Japan and countless countries in between, D’Julz has always remained true to his roots in Paris, where he has been running the now legendary “Bass Culture” night at Rex club since 1997. A true legend and one who will continue to be at the top of his game.
