I Could Feel You


Scene from Act 2 of Monteverdi's operatic masterpiece, L'Incoronazione di Poppea' featuring vocal students of DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama. The feisty role of Poppea is sung by soprano Shauna Buckingham, and the role of her nurse Arnalta is played by counter tenor Christopher Murphy. Poppea, who is one of opera's most famous social climbers, has managed to turn her affair with the emperor Nerone into something more serious. She returns home, in a state of great excitement, singing of her triumph. She has managed to see off all the competition, including Nerone's wife Ottavia and his mentor Seneca, and is now confident that she will soon be the new empress.  Her nurse Arnalta attempts to calm Poppea down and sings this famous lullaby to her.
