INTERVIEW

1. How would you describe your sound?
“Melodic Tech-House, sweet melodies paired with groove and love in detail, mostly made for the dancefloor.”

2. How did you learn producing?
Marcel: “Learning by doing. I bought a software at the age of 14, named ‘Techno Maker’ (laugh), to make first steps in the field of producing. To get an impression of how it works, to do a track. It wasn‘t as bad as it sounds. Experimenting and playing around is always a got method to learn and understand how things work. But before doing first complete tracks I was only djing. Later then I used Steinberg‘s ‘Nuendo’ and ‘Cubase’.”
Thomas: “After some years of djing I experimented with a ‘Yamaha RM1X’ Groovebox and a sampler from ‘BOSS’ in 1999. Later Software based producing.”

3. Favorite track at the moment/all time?
Marcel: “Difficult, because there are many good tracks out there, but one of my favorite tracks at the moment is ‘Stereocalypse - Arboria’; one of my alltime favorites: ‘Black Van - Inside (Oliver Remix)’.”
Thomas: “At the moment ‘Beyond’ by Frank Serin (Prosper Rek Remix), alltime favorite: ‘In The Night’ by Sivesgaard.”

4. Dream collab?
Marcel: ”Rodriguez Jr.”
Thomas: “Me myself and I in ten years.”

5. What keeps you going?
Marcel: “Joy of life, love for the music, head full of ideas.”
Thomas: “Family, music, sleep.”

6. What makes you laugh?
Marcel: “My son, dry sense of humour.”
Thomas: “An Irishman and an Englishman walk into a bakery. The Englishman steals 3 buns and puts them into his pockets and leaves. He says to the Irishman: ‘That took great skill and guile to steal those buns. The owner didn't even see me.’ The Irishman replied: ‘That's just simple thievery, I'll show you how to do it the honest way and get the same results.’ The Irishman then proceeded to call out the owner of the bakery and says: ‘Sir, I want to show you a magic trick.’ The owner was intrigued so he came over to see the magic trick. The Irishman asked him for a bun and then he proceeded to eat it. He asked 2 more times and after eating them again the owner says: ‘Okay my friend, where's the magic trick?’ The Irishman then said: ‘Look in the Englishman's Pockets.’“

7. What do you listen to besides electronic music?
Marcel: “80s Stuff, Soul, Funk, German Hip Hop, Pop music.”
Thomas: “80s, Oldies, Soul.”

8. What distinguishes you and your music from other artists?
“People say, we have a unique feature in our music, a unique sound. That‘s important today, to make something different to others, as a huge amount of music is published everyday.”

9. Most exciting club moment?
“Sisyphos Berlin, October 2015, playing the wintergarden, we started with the first tune, people poured in and celebrated with us as no one was watching, without any break and totally lost in music.”

10. Who will considerably give direction to the scene soon?
“Acts like ‘Township Rebellion’ and ‘Hidden Empire’ for example. High Quality productions, mostly peaktime tracks with a unique style and well done arrangements.”

“Cubase”

12. Where would you love to play live?
“Kazantip, Ibiza”

13. What do you think about DIT KLINGT JUT?
“Nice guys. Great idea of featuring artists, without making a difference regarding their fame. Only focused on their music and individual sound.”

14. What makes dance music so special to you?
“Thousands of memories and good moments - a possibility to give emotions and feelings a face.”

15. Next release?
“‘SPIKE THE PUNCH EP’ on Parquet Recordings out on the 12th of june incl. Remixes by ‘Hidden Empire’ and ‘Rauschhaus’.”

16. What you can’t stand?
Marcel: “Coffee”

Marco Thull and Philippe Bessel-Lorck aka The Second Sense are a Producer and Dj-Duo from Cologne, Germany. They have fallen in love with deep and melodic sounds and the Moog Synthesizer. On stage they prefer playing live with hardware. Each of them has a long history in electronic music producing and as live acts. They already released on  labels like Ostwind-Records and Datapunk and had their first release on Parquet Recordings "Scales" in August 2017. A couple weeks ago The Second Sense had their second release with us "Gate", which was a cooperation with the uprising duo Supacooks. Please welcome the two guys at Parquet Mixtape series and enjoy listening to their very delicate and exclusive mixtape.

Mila Journée is a DJ and music producer on the rise in the electronic scene and is appointed as a new Brazilian talent. She released her first track in early 2017 and in this short period already has a sizable catalog, with over 120 tracks released. She is known for her melodic productions and in her latest releases, she has reached prominent positions on Top Hype and on official Beatport charts. As a DJ, Mila Journée has a refined feeling that engages her audience in a set artistically constructed from the ethereal sound emanating from her productions and repertory.

"INSEAD 20D has been an incredible journey for me, professionally, personally, and even musically. I’ve had such a crazy opportunity to play a wide variety of genres of music, some of which I never even thought INSEADers would respond to, let alone rave all night to. The openness of you all to explore new styles outside your normal comfort zones with us has been really heart-warming, and I will carry so many fond memories of our gigs with me - I hope we get to play for you all again one day!

This mix follows my INSEAD journey, from the highs of meeting everyone in P1 to the lows of the darker times during the year. Every track I’ve included in this mix is attached to a very specific memory from this year (if you’re interested, feel free to ask me about individual tracks!).

The closing track, Corners of the Earth by Odesza, for me perfectly captures our growth over this challenging year, our never-ending bond, and the feeling I have as our INSEAD 20D cohort goes out into the world."

The art of music has touched the hearts of human beings around the planet for thousands of years. It's a universal language with the ability to express what can't be expressed through words or thought. It can induce strong emotions, alter our states of consciousness and let us experience reality in a different way. It can draw us into the present moment, where just the music exists - unfolding through time, moment by moment. When we let go and merge into the auditory sensations, it takes us on an inner journey. Using this not to escape, but to fully embrace reality as it is, music can help us release tensions and bring balance to our everyday life. 
Especially dance music allows us to unify with the flow of the music. When we express the energy it releases within us, by just giving ourselves to it and following the spontaneous and authentic movements of our bodies, we can experience a state of connection, peace and joy. Doing this collectively, synchronously moving to the same rhythm and sharing this special experience, we feel a connection that resonates within.

With DIT KLINGT JUT we want to express our love for music and manifest the meaning it can have for all of us. We do this by providing a thoughtfully curated space for artists and labels to share their music, organizing events & live-streams and serving as a platform to share ideas on music and the creative process.
