Years ago, my father promised to accompany me to Burning Man when he retired.  Being a man of his word, he joined me in Black Rock City in August 2014.  

With my father by my side, I spun for the first time on an art car at Burning Man and by fate I ended up landing a prime-time slot: Burn Night at 12:00am on top of the monstrous multi-storied-superbus The Purple Palace.

The moment my set began, the doors to The Purple Palace were opened to the public and a sudden explosion of dancing began and continued with epic energy for 90 minutes as we careened across the laser laden playa.

Burn Night Set (with my Father) on Purple Palace art Car - 08/16/14

Modern underground musical behemoth No.19 Music now turns to its expert roster of house and techno talents for a Spring Sampler that is bursting at the seams with ready made, floor filling dynamite. All the crew old and new feature including Guti, Nitin, Hector, Clayton Steele, Maher Daniel, Eric Volta, Art Department’s Kenny Glasgow and many more.
In recent times the label run by Canadian DJ and producer and one half of Art Department, Jonny White, has become one of the most charted, played and influential in the global house scene. Whether releasing definitive albums and compilations from Art Department, hot EPs from mainstays like Louie Fresco and Eric Volta or high profile remixes from the likes of Kerri Chandler, Frankie Knuckles or Fred P this label really is at the sharp end of the scene.
As has been the label’s habit in recent years, No.19 look to the coming WMC Miami event with another sterling collection of original tracks. Label co-boss Nitin kicks things off with the brilliantly emotive and melodically lush house grooves of ‘I See’. Crosstown Rebels regular and piano whizz Guti then gets all bumpy with his dusty, hip- hop influenced beats on the jazzed up ‘Ruski’. Then comes a another core member of the No.19 family, Canadian and All Day I Dream regular Maher Daniel. His track is a prickly, spaced-out tech roller with tons of atmosphere that is sure to captivating hearts and minds on dance floors everywhere.
Close label friend and synth genius Eric Volta then pairs off with Brohn for ‘Lines of Entropy’, a sensuously slow burning and cinematic cut that places all its focus on dazzling melodic lines and slick beats. The legend that is Kenny Glasgow then gets up to some jacking, wobbly and off kilter house business on ‘Be Strong’, which has plenty of percussive energy and serene pad work. Mexico’s top producer, who released his debut LP on No.19 last year, Louie Fresco once again shows his skills on the heady, hypnotic techno workout that is ‘Anonymity’. Desolat’s connoisseur craftsman Hector then seduces listens with his deep, warm and engaging house track ‘High Times’ and rising talent Jonathan Lee offers some perfectly syncopated house kicks and nervy synth patterns on ‘Loyal Suns.’
Silky & Dadon’s ‘Move’ is a rubbery & techy house affair that really comes alive with Cari Golden’s whispered but emphatic vocal delivery, Moreon & Baffa offer expertly thumping and dubbed out house that is on the verge of being techno with ‘Mare De Due’ and finally Clayton Steele’s ‘Action’ is a perfectly spaced out and spacious number with sci-fi influences, occult 80s vocals and tons of great effects.
Once again this fantastic new Spring Sampler shows that No.19 Music continues to evolve, unearth new names and remain way ahead of the curve. Filled with inventive sounds miles away from the norm, this release is a mouthwatering prospect for both DJs and dancers alike.

"My favorite set that we played this year at Burning Man was at Robot Heart. It was probably the only set that I really prepared for with Walshy Fire.

I'll be honest I was a lil nervous because I really wanted to make it run with energy for the full two hours and our typical audience isn't that used to a classic dub and reggae set. Myself and the whole RH crew wanted to create something really special for a sunset party and keep it true to the theme but to still feel like a Robot Heart set. The Robot Heart crew had told me that they wanted and entire set that sounded like "Major Lazer - Get Free" and I had to think hard about it. To keep the vibe going for two hours and for that record to be the climax was a challenge but I realized if you stick to your guns for the whole party and steer the audience in a direction and keep them with you, then anything is possible.  I hope you love it.. It's perfect for a party on a Sunday afternoon and represents a different side of Major Lazer"

When i first heard about Eprom from Gaslamp Killer I totally freaked out, but when I heard his album Halflife I knew I had to work with him somehow.  So I called him up and invited him down to LA.  This was a really natural collaboration. He came down to Venice and we sat in the studio for 3 days working on these tunes.  I don’t fan boy about very many producers but Eprom is one of the greatest in my humble opinion and he didn’t disappoint. We had all the analog stuff routing back and forth, then sampling it, resampling it, reworking it — the super cool mind of a maniac up in here.

Moon Juice was made strictly with 808 sounds, even the angelic arp style pads are made from modified 808 kick drums. Crawled Eagle is that more nasty Eprom vibe reminiscent of Center of the Sun from Halflife.  I added all my bits throughout as well.  Listeners beware this ain’t house music if that’s what you are expecting!

Founder and lead A&R Matthew Anthony is known for doing a little bit of everything behind the scenes at Perfect Driver Music. When asked about the addition of Billy Kenny & Wongo to the roster, he shook his head, smiling sincerely remarking, “I’m honored to have them on board.” Well said and the rest of our crew agrees. 2016 promises to be a year for the books.

DJ Dan presents Stereo Damage - Episode 102 (Neighbour guest mix and DJ Dan)

The second single from Barclay Crenshaw's self titled album is violently haunting and beautiful - inspired by another unexplained diagram from the past. It's hard to decipher the image exactly but blood vessel maps of the human form are drawn with symbols and strands resembling genetic code, like an ancient guide studying our species. Additional imagery suggests an extraterrestrial influence and leaves us with more unanswered questions about the project.

The next single from Barclay Crenshaw's self-titled album includes an unlikely alliance of American bass, UK jungle vibes and the spirited vocals of London’s Lady Chann. A long time fan of the many UK bass genres, Crenshaw has dabbled in the genre here and there for many years, only now unveiling an original contribution. The musical results of this collaboration are exceptional. 

Coming from a hybrid background somewhere between Grime and Dancehall, Lady Chann sings and spits lyrics over a futuristic yet organic instrumental. Barclay’s jungle fills and synthetic arpeggios complement Chann’s uplifting vocals, accenting each artist’s hidden secrets on "The Real X-Files."
