My debut album is a result of two years of living as an 'audio nomad.' It was born when I lived in "Spoons" a campervan in Australia, and polished as "Mukti" and I backpacked India. It features my brand of cinematic electronica, audio stories, and a chance to listen through my ears.

I call this alias of mine "Dark Divi." He comes with a signature evil laugh, and made his first appearance behind the decks recently.

Dark Divi presents "Berlingabba"

On Feb 20th, 2021 - Australia lost an important artist: Big Stu, frontman of the band 'OKA'. One year later, I would like to share this tribute to a man who stood proudly in his roots, spread his kulcha far and wide, and made us dance to the music that made him happy.

My friends & I were lucky to catch Big Stu & OKA live on December 4th, 2020 in Koah. Little did we know that it would be one of his last gigs. I was lucky to meet him for a minute after the show. That minute has inspired me for a lifetime.

I know that Big Stu lives on with us through his music. So here's a 1 hour mix featuring OKA's music only 🙏 Thank you to Bonnie & OKA's family for giving me your permission & blessing to create this tribute.

I took a moment to meditate on the importance of friendship before embarking on my journey of shutting out the world by heading off into the wild in Spoons. When I think of friendship, I think of Sam

For Sam is an ode to my best friend’s gripping and heroic journey. If you have ever looked your inner demons in the eyes, I hope this song inspires you to pick yourself up even when the odds are stacked against you and helps you grow into the best version of yourself with rock-solid determination. This song begins with our days of innocent laughter in boarding school in Kodaikanal, South India. It then moves into a darker tune - when no one could speak to Sam, before developing into something uplifting and inspiring, just like Sam’s journey

My campervan Spoons & I pulled up at a free camp in the hinterland of the Sunshine Coast. I opened my door to a strong knock owned by a large indigenous man. He said “brother - we are going to be playing the didgeridoo by the river. Wanna come?” I jumped at the chance and asked if I could bring my mic. He said “yes”.

Indigenous tribes have passed on stories of nature, folklore, and traditional wisdom through music for generations. What you hear is a snippet of Charlie - an indigenous Elder and my new friend - teaching me about the ancient connection between stories & sound

Through our interaction, I realised that in order to create music - I should be writing stories instead of simply trying to write ‘tracks.’ The six true & personal stories I then wrote became the songs on this album

As I crossed my street in Australia, living my routine life that had become almost mundane, I dreamed back to my roots in the jungles of India. A wave of nostalgic sounds followed; the warm rumble of the train, the call of newspaper sellers, a bansuri flute - contrasted with the sharp call of an Aussie pedestrian crossing.

June 10, 2021

The small beach town of Agnes Water, Australia is the first place where I parked up in Spoons; my 34-year old campervan turned portable music studio & mobile home. After 5 years of my corporate job, I set off with her into the wild to unlock the music I knew was stuck inside me

One night, early into this new journey, I dreamed of the intro to my album. I heard a flute soaring above sounds from my roots (India). The very next day, I met an Aussie man named Shane; parked by the beach, playing the Indian Bansuri flute, sipping chai, and reading about Hindu gods. Would you believe it?

I walked up to Shane and shared my recent dream with him. I asked him if I may record with him in my studio on wheels. He kindly accepted. What you hear is our first interaction, before he played the flute on Platform 1 - the exact intro I dreamt of.

Hey friends,

I just moved on from 2 months in Bir - the village that flies, in Himachal Pradesh, India. 

I went there to think about what I want to do next, following the launch of my debut album “Moments of Clarity.”

But it turned out to be one of those magical dreamlands where you don’t think - you just do. 

On my third day there I jumped off a cliff, only to have my crippling fear of heights melt into the ecstasy of paragliding through the Himalayas. 

This fearlessness continued, and I soon found myself stepping behind the decks to guide a conscious & present crowd through ecstatic dance.

This set, Mast Pahadi, is inspired by that experience. In Hindi, Pahadi means mountain person. And mast means great. I had a vision of a genderless spirit - living in harmony with the mountains. 

When I shared the name with my friend Nirjhar - he reminded me that Mast is also someone stuck in a state of trance….of ecstasy.

So kick off your shoes, and turn up the volume - as I guide you through an audio journey which mirrors the peace I felt in Bir, the pulse beneath my feet, and a glimpse - into the ecstatic.

Mast Pahadi (Ecstatic Dance DJ set from Bir, India)

One day - I decided to face my fear of heights by jumping off a cliff in Bir, the foothills of the Himalayas. As I soared through the mountains, my fear melted into ecstasy. I felt music come to me.

Magically, my collaborator from my vanlife chapter in Australia - guitarist & songwriter Asher Reuven appeared. Together, we set up an outdoor studio in Vigilatte Cafe, Bir - and created this song in three days. Asher’s partner Bliss sang lyrics that we wrote together. Our friend Michael contributed his incredible harmonica.

Later, I carried the song to the jungles of Indonesia, and realised that my ode to flying was about birds as much as it was about paragliding.

The four of us are thrilled to share with you - The Sacred Art of Flying.

Sophie Heard You Say (Dark Divi Mashup)

Traumprinz, for the uninitiated - is a cult electronic music producer who is completely anonymous. He goes under many aliases such as Prince of Denmark and DJ Metatron, but no one really knows who he is. I’ve always loved this work from him, because the breakbeat at 4:25 just makes every bone in my body surrender.

Adding these vocals by Fred felt reminiscent of the last two years, as his albums have been soundtracking my audio nomad life.

The empty breakbeat cries for some chords, until Oliver Henry’s stunner “Closer” just creeps in to give you a warm hug around your ears. At 7:30, you hear a running race I had in 2023 against my high school rival, which makes this particular mashup incredibly special to me.

Nausea by 2XM is one of the prettiest, most nostalgic tracks I’ve come across. I live for the twinkling xylophones that come in at 3:11. 

One day, I experimented by playing Fred Again’s “Billie” over it and I was surprised to see how in some surreal way, they worked together. To me, this combined creation feels like it’s about experiencing moments of self-love in beautiful, vast landscapes. Like Mother Nature herself is putting her loving arms around you.

A shout out to AI for enabling us mashup artists to separate a song into its stems these days. That’s what allowed me to bring in the pianos from Billie for the second chorus.

Every city resonates with a different genre for me. Mumbai is most clearly breakbeat. Busy, restless, yet hypnotic with moments of beauty within the chaos. 

One day, I sampled the sounds of the local train and layered it over the delicious “Porta Del Paradiso” by Bloom.

Used in the past as a war trumpet, it’s now used in Hindu rituals in temples across India.

Whenever I visit Dandeli, my childhood home, I’m taken by just how well (and for how long) my childhood friend Rohit (@_the_bhat_07 ) can play the Shank!

One night I was feeling silly, so I threw it over a beat I whipped up and the results were DRAMATIC!

Life puts our greatest rewards behind our deepest fears.

Ever since I left familiarity for nomad life more than two years ago, I've been actively facing my fears.

One of these fears has been about the act of performing live - or even making music in a 'live' way.

Going to the Audio Bootcamp in Goa opened my eyes to different techniques from pro producers from around the globe.

Jumping off a cliff in Bir, only to have my fear of heights melt into the ecstasy of paragliding - was another huge milestone for me...and seems to have given me this tune.

Lastly, reading Rick Rubin's "The Creative Act" is informing me on how the process of sharing art, no matter how imperfect, is what helps the creative river in us flow.

This little piece is the culmination of these three experiences.

I was born & raised in Danddeli, a small town amidst the jungles of South India. Every year when I visit - I feel a deep sense of peace & grounding there, and it refreshes me for the year ahead. With everything that's happening in the world at the moment, I realised I can’t be sure of when I’ll next be able to return home.

So when @eclectic reached out to me to livestream a DJ set, I thought I'd get my inner mowgli to channel the hypnotic peace from that jungle.

Jungli

Sky & Sand by Paul Kalkbrenner is one of those songs that made me fall in love with sound itself.

One night I played it over Ben Böhmer's "Lost in Mind" (Volen Sentir Vision), featuring the incredible voice of Malou.

The two songs combined makes me think of lovers who are stuck in different worlds, countries, or even lifetimes. Or perhaps one is just stuck in quarantine. #modernlove

This song is hope & positivity that they will be reunited.

I’ve been in love with sound for the past 7 years, but for some reason - I’ve always been afraid to finish songs, perform a DJ set in front of people, or basically just - put my name to a piece of audio.

My greatest passion has always been my deepest insecurity. Until now.

A few months ago, I happened to visit a tarot card reader and he recognised this fear of mine. He said that in October, I would get an opportunity to play in front of some friends. He said that them viewing me as a DJ/Producer or a musician - would give me the little spark I need to get over this fear & unlock the greatness that lies beyond. 

And sure enough, on the 1st week of October - one of my best mates - Sam Henry, better known as Shenry, happened to throw a party in a beautiful farmhouse nestled amongst the mountains behind Byron Bay, Australia. On the Sunday, when everyone was just relaxing, soaking up the sun, and gathering wood for the fire - I got the chance to step up & curate the sunset. 

It was actually the first time I’ve got to play with my gear that I know so well & love so much, my beloved Traktor S4, and in front of people. Suddenly, I felt fearless. 

This is that set.

Sunset at Eden

"Soweto" is one of those effortlessly cool tracks I've not been able to get out of my head ever since I heard it. West African born @shirazee pays homage to a town in Johannesburg, Soweto, that saved him from himself when times were tough. The production from @michaelbrun makes it always feel like summer.

But when I combined this track with "Not Alone" by @essenceoftimeofc , a track that reimagines Hans Zimmer's Interstellar score - I felt it turn into something different. It suddenly felt vast, spiritual, and like history repeating.

November 28th really was the best day of my life so far. My mate Vinnie & I threw a combined birthday festival in my backyard. I made my dream lineup filled with my talented friends and to my surprise - they all said yes. We created a jungle, invited 50 of our favourite animals, and had a 12 hour party that I'll never forget. This was my daytime set from the party that I like to call "Triple Distilled Sunshine". It channels the pure happiness I've been feeling lately, the bliss from unemployment, and is an ode to Brisbane's sunshine.
