Premiere: BASHKKA 'DeFol' (Hyperaktivist Remix)

We premiere new music from revered house producer José Cabrera as he releases his Le Bateleur LP on his A Harmless Deed imprint. We feature ‘A Track for Clau’, a Detroit-laced house groove that is rolling in futuristic funk.

Accomplished Spanish artist José Cabrera enters a fresh creative chapter with the new album Le Bateleur. The storytelling and hugely personal record arrives on his own A Harmless Deed label and is a deep dive into the house music he has always loved.

Over the last two decades and under several aliases, Madrid-born Cabrera established himself as a leading techno producer. He has released influential labels like Fred P’s Soul People Music, Tresor, Deeply Rooted and Ron Moreli`s’ L.I.E.S. records and co-runs A Harmless Deed with friend Damian Schwartz. As a DJ he has toured Europe, Asia, North and South America and proven himself to be an experimental DJ with a long-standing residency at Tresor in Berlin.

When the pandemic hit in 2020, Cabrera felt detached from the techno world so used his time at home to explore new sounds. He has always had a love of house so set work on making a proper house record in the mold of greats who went before. He worked with other musicians and vocalists, made use of an array of Roland drum machines, Juno synths and Casio keys to cook up a raw and authentic sound and drew from a wide range of the back music that has soundtracked his life. The resulting album is packed with life and energy, skits from friends and timeless grooves.

‘Track For Clau’ is a hyper-speed future house groove that is bursting with bumping kicks, bouncing bass rhythms and busy synth arps bringing the light to a glossy uplifting house record. This has all the makings of a classic Detroit record, with a new-groove polished finish.

Four Four Premiere: José Cabrera - Track for Clau [A Harmless Deed]

We kick off the week with some fresh sounds from Dublin-based techno DJ & producer JAMAAL under his newly coined monarch, Posterboy. We premiere ‘Let Go!’ a rhythmic slice of tribal techo that dives deep into the epicentre of the Posterboy project as the Hearpro boss blurs the lines between techno & house.

Dublin native JAMAAL recently announced his latest creative venture, under the name, Posterboy. The new alias breathes new life into his productions, as the youngster threads between soulful & sinister cuts amidst the Posterboy & JAMAAL monikers.

The new alias focusses on the deeper & more emotive sides of techno production with groove being a focal point of the project. The venture show’s the Hearpro boss approaching techno production with a new gaze, as he swaps thunderous kicks for pulsating bass grooves, whilst still clutching onto the natural grit that has become synonmous with his JAMAAL project.

The debut EP from Posterboy comes locked and loaded with 5 groove-laced techno tracks that lean on 90s traditions. The new package see’s the Dubliner zone in on driving sub frequencies, layered percussion and a dominant vocal hooks.

‘Let Go !’ show’s Posterboy at his most rhythmic, as the youngster flexes his tribal guns, creating an exotic soundscape that leaves dancers with one foot on the dancefloor and the other resting in the jungle. The pairing of shuffling tribal grooves and throbbing bass makes for an immersive trip fuelled by textured hypnotism. A commanding vocal and tense breakdown sections seal the deal on an impressive debut offering from one of Dublin’s most active techno producers.

After taking a nearly year long slumber... Divine Species Records is back and we're making up for the break (one track per month to be exact 😉)

Even though we have been pretty silent on the label since our January release of CAMERA SHY, that doesn't mean that our residents haven't been hard at work. New collaborative projects have been formed, lots of tracks have been made, and plans for 2024 are looking bright.

But to prove we haven't forgotten about you, we wanted to give you a little end of the year present in the form of an 11 track VA, all from our DVSP residents!

To make it even more special, the artwork for the VA is the final piece of the puzzle we began to put together last year. Take a closer look and you'll see a little piece of everyone that released in 2022, many many thanks to our wonderful artist Lisa Bender for creating all of the incredible artwork 🤍
